  • i love this song, i didnt know the kinks sang it, when i first heard the song,i thought it was a spanish band playing it,but its the kinks, wow, sounds great

  • Cool video. Takes me back to Elementary School

  • now im grown up and playing band :)

  • Ray Davies looks somewhat like Robert Donat in this video.

  • Ray makes a great and convincing spiv!

  • I always loved this song!

  • great tune..................

  • Thanks for posting this, its been years since I last heard this one.

  • I love Ray's unique approach to stories. He wants his sis to have a little fun, how sweet is that?

  • So this is what being British is all about. Cool. A Yank.

  • my favourite kinks song

  • wow, reminds me the time they came to Louisville to promote this album and I bought my ticket before I even asked for permission to go...was well worth the punishment I got for sneaking out to see them after my parents told me no ;D

  • Heard this on Real Radio today - oh my god this takes me back to the 80's - love it. x

  • Come Dancing, Surfing USA

  • One of the 80's classic songs.

  • 32 people didn't go dancing

  • Another Auld Lang Syne.

  • Ray Davies stars in dual roles here..he'd later reprise one of them in the Followup video "Don't Forget To Dance",which picks up where " Come Dancing" left off!

  • The big gulf betw. Beatles, Stones, Who, & Kinks is that Kinks took cue not from Am. R&B but from English dance hall music; you sure can hear it in Come Dancing!

  • pictures of you got me here.

  • Lol @hot80s. Calling somebody ignorant, with your poor grammar.

  • the song is the best

  • Great songs never go out of style. Kinks live...

  • Man I love the Kinks. I always forget about them until I stumble on to one of their songs.

  • Happy!

  • this is the type of song where u only understand 1 word

  • Great song AND great video. Lotta work went into it and Ray Davies looks like he had fun in the process.

  • hrm Im daddys little girl

  • These guys ripped off Matchbox 20.

  • @antdigger now i know your a ignorant asshole.

  • @antdigger Matchbox 20 formed in 1995. The Kinks formed in 1964. This song is from 1982. Do the maths, you ignorant asshole.

  • @HTprods And in addition, by the time Matchbox 20 formed, The Kinks were all but finished as a group (they formally broke up the next year).

  • @antdigger, this song is way before matchbox 20.....it was made in 1982.

  • I love the Kinks and always knew the 60s hits like 'You Really Got Me' and 'Sunny Afternoon' but I never knew this song until just last year. I Never knew they would continue on after 1970 quietly from the charts until 1983 with this great song charting in at no.12 in the UK.

  • Fucking great song, by the immortal Kinks.

  • I loved this song when it came out [and still do]because it was the first song Ray Davies had written in years that didn't sound like something he wrote back in the sixties.

  • FEEL THIS WAY , BE THIS WAY , PLAY THIS WAY.. GOTTA LOVE IT..!!! GUITARZAN..

  • What a great story and the video is just brilliant. The Kinks are without doubt one of the greatest rock groups ever to have come out of Britain. I love Oasis but would in truth place this band even higher. The Kinks had hits in the 1960's, 70's and 80's. Even the Beatles as a band could not do this.

  • This reminds me of dancing with my little sister - we are pretty good.

  • " part of my childhood die " ? can someone explain me why ?

  • @TheJayRoderick - because they tore down the place where his sister used to go dancing.

  • @pgrabar but wouldn't that be for the sister

  • @dan3324123 - Part of *his* childhood memories, as shown in the video and in the lyrics, were watching his sister going out and returning from dancing on her dates.

  • Timeless and great. I never get tired of hearing this song!!!

  • I have been looking for the name of the song for YEARS! Just heard it in a store radio and finally found it

  • ke bonitos recuerdos,,un tema que trae recuerdos desde peru

  • If you like this song try Nick Lowe's "Half a Boy and Half a Man" Even better.

    Not as over produced

  • @RATkins741 I did . it sucked

  • Estupenda je el teclado de lo mejor

  • just a kool tune by the kinks!!!

  • God save the Kinks! Ray Davies, you are one handsome devil! You could have been a movie star. I guess rock legend will have to do.

  • ha i love uk

  • Muito legal

  • This song gives me Reason for Leave :)

  • timeless !

  • It's a very joyful song, groovy, indeed. But didn't his sister die of a fatal heart attack while dancing? I believe it was a little after his 13th birthday, wasn't it?

  • @MixtursahProductions yup, according to wikipedia, thats how she passed. interestingly enough, she had just given him a guitar earlier that day. dunno if it was his first guitar, but if it was, god bless her for making sure ray got into music!

  • This song never gets old.

  • Sweet song, sweet video...pleasant memories !

  • saw them 1982 Edinbiurgh....Ray Daviies total legend...!!!!!!!

  • Awesome video & song! What a great, great treat. Thanks for sharing! Love, love, love it!

  • Love this song and video..especially the cute girl dancing next to Ray on the balcony...she has some rythm!

  • I remember listening to this on AM radio back when this first came out. It was one of my favorites as a kid.

  • this is a great song melodically the lyrics tells a story.. music was done well even in the 80's i never knew it at that time. compared to today's crap

where the message is shallow and always about sex. let's see a revival of this type of singing and song writing!

  • @mvstudios1 Agreed, 100%

  • @mvstudios1 depends what music you listened to then and are listening to now.

  • None of my friends know who Ray Davies is (and neither do my parents) and that just makes me sad. Ray and the Kinks are awesome and always will be.

  • i love this song i remember when i was 15 now my children like this kind of music 'cose it's the best

  • The gap in that kids teeth is a wicked touch. another little bit of irony from the legend that is ray davies.

  • if i could only listen to one band for the rest of my life and cut out all of the others, i'd keep the kinks. i need them. their music is like oxygen to me. absolute perfection.

  • @jenzeppelin

If I were in that situation, I would probably pick ABBA! In my opinion, the corniness of "Dancing Queen" hits the spot every time! Such a feel-good song sung by such a lovely quartet!

  • Good rhythm.. easy to dance to. I give it a 95. :) (the old timers will get that one!)LOL

  • i love the kinks!!!! it sucks that they are underrated, the majority of the people don't remember them, even though they where just as big as the beatles at some time and where also one of the first british invasion bands...

  • Is there a version of this song that a latino guy sang. i could have sworn i had seen a live performance of it in the early and the guy was in a white suit and part of the song was in spanish i think

  • Love this song......I something made me remember this song so I searched for it on youtube........thanx Elconquistador!

  • @dimpleseve ...... : )

  • @dimpleseve I remember it because it seems like I hear it every time I go to the grocery store.

  • clips from the movie manhood with nestor carbonell and the woman who played his sister would make great video

  • una figata,anche dopo 30 anni...!grandi kinks.

  • The Kinks were part of the "Big Four" of the 1964 British Invasion (The others being The Beatles, The Rolling Stones & The Who) .

Like those other bands, they have a rich history of singles & albums. Yea, some of their best work may have been overlooked (especially by North American audiences) but Ray Davies & company will always be remembered as one of the greats.

  • @JohnGrant2011

Just for fun, I am going to point out that the year that you mentioned was the same year that my parents got married, "Gilligan's Island" made its debut and the first G. I. Joes were manufactured! On top of all of this, Helen Hunt was one year old!

  • @JohnGrant2011 i agree

  • Ray is one of the best overlooked song writers of our time.Be it lighter pop or more socially aware songs. He grew as we grew.Could you ask for better company ??

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs!

  • why is this version so damn slow?!

  • I was 7 yrs old...sigh..the good days

  • Great Reggae sound

  • Holy shit. Okay, I'm 14. I've listened to this song my whole life. Literally, since forever ago. I'm so glad that there used to be this kind of music, it makes me so happy:).

  • @jennnykennny ..... Right On!

  • @jennnykennny it's up to you and your generation to keep it coming...and you will. :) Keep diggin back through the years & listening to todays musicians. It's not all, good but there is always a little treasure hiding somewhere..

  • @jennnykennny we totally needed to know you were 14

  • @roadrashsuxass Uhh fuck off?

  • @jennnykennny Im fucking off at this very moment. Have a great weekend.

  • this song makes me feal old....but i love it

  • I remember watching the premier of this video on Friday Night Video's which used to air on NBC I think. We didn't have MTV up here in Canada yet, I don't even think we had Much Music which is the Canadian version of MTV, when this came out. Seems like a lifetime ago...

  • @mclf67 yeah! and Nite Trax on WTBS, i loved it and would watch all night fri and sat.

  • The Kinks captured genuine "English-ness" much better than The Who ever did...

  • I think how it's great how the kinks had been together for something like 20 years when this came out, talk about longevity. Nowadays most groups are over and done with after like 5 years.

  • what is ad, I remember this from MTV

  • same here i thought it was Latino....i know the feeling about frustertion (<.. whatever)

i hate spending money on women and get nothing hahahah

  • A classic during MTV's Golden Age:)

  • he looks like snidely whiplash and vincent price had a kid together

  • Why did I always think that the singer of this song sounded Latino until I found that this was by The Kinks?

  • Sounds almost like "Blame It on the Bassa Nova".

  • 25 people have "Personal-Taste AIDS".

    =|

  • this was my brother

  • I love the little ladies with the mops!!!

  • On the live version from "To the Bone," his voice breaks a little when he sings, "The day they knocked down the Palais, my sister stood and cried."

What a great song, and a great music video. Thanks for posting.

  • 2 things I know.1. I know Jack. And..2. I can dance. I can dance. Ha Ha! I can dance...yahhoooooooo! Right across the floor!!1

  • @PCJews I agree. This is a true music video.. Not the ones of today "Get Money, Boobs.. Cash Money..' lol.. Today's music is so disgraceful. What a shame that music videos such as this with timeline stories cannot be made anymore..

  • ...the day they knocked down the pallas part of my childhood died..

  • this is one of those songs you don't want to end. luv it

  • Another great track by Mr Ray Davies and The Kinks. I believe that it reached no. 12 (in the UK) charts, back in the September of 1983. It deserved to be a considerably bigger hit that that, IMCO.

The lyrics of this song are interesting - and quite dark, in some respects. Ray Davies sings about (male) sexual frustration - although not in the first person, as it were. Another famous rock song which contains lyrics about sexual frustration is: "Don't Stand So Close To Me" by The Police.

  • The Kinks hit #6 in Billboard, 7-16-83. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Maybe the best song Ray had wrote in a decade or so, but such a shame about the awful production. Is Mick on a drum machine for this? And that shitty synth!! Geeez!

  • Absolutely a great band, AND one of the best videos to ever come out of the MTV explosion.

  • 26 people never got to go dancing!

  • @MrPixel42 That's right. What sad losers they are! :)

  • Most excellent song and video thank you for putting it up.

  • top tune top band..............god bless the kinks

  • i have a kinks top 10 list come check it out

  • The best band ever!

  • okay, where did you get this version? BECAUSE this version is missing the trombones at the end of the song on the right channel! i always liked the separation of the horn section and noticed this was missing...

  • Ray's pencil thin mustache and badass hair are second to none here.

  • I was lucky enough to see the Kinks in concert in the 1980's. Back then the tickets were general seating and it was who ever got there was the closest to the stage. At lease for this show. Anyway my friend and I got there early enough for the sound check and ended up standing against the stage. It was so neat to be able to reach out and shake their hands and strum their guitar as they held out for us. Such a great concert and the only time I was ever that close to the stage.

  • I think WEEN was inspired by this for "Bananas and Blow"?!

  • I LOVE THE KINKS!

  • I remember being at high school when this was released and hoping each week it would reach no1 which i think it stalled at n02 but still a great video.

  • its hard to belive,,i was only 10 years old when this song came out..its sad that i turn 40 years old this year...i am such a old man..damm good tune

  • it takes all kinds of people to keep this world kinky;-) nothing undertoned about the musical ways;-)

  • This song makes me feel like a kid again. Yeah I remember watching this on MTV too. It's all reality crap now. I don't know why they still call it MTV? Maybe it should be RTV.

  • @Duskwood1 they should just call it what it is... complete shit TV

  • @Duskwood1 yeah, MTV sucks nowdays

  • @Duskwood1 Well said......Regards 85.......

  • @Duskwood1 yeah, I would watch this over jersey shore or any of that garbage any day

  • @Duskwood1

It seems as if reality TV and the character of Elmo from "Sesame Street" are the two biggest scapegoats of this generation! How about we go all the way and blame these two institutions for 9/11, homelessness and the hole in the ozone layer!

  • @Duskwood1 Or maybe RCTV, the C standing for Crap.

  • My Dads favorite video. I remember coming home from drinkin' with the gang in HS. My Dad would be checking Mtv out, I would come in and have a seat and watch this awesome song and video together. Miss you big time Dad. @ 3:40 and on was his favorite bit.

  • My Dads favorite video. I remember coming home from drinkin' with the gang in HS. My Dad would be checking Mtv out, I would come in and have a seat and watch this awesome song and video together. Miss you big time Dad.

  • Elconquistador69too nice song i love it thank you for sharing appreciate it.

  • The Kinks remain one of the most under rated bands in all of Rock history. I'll take Ray Davies over John Lennon any day.

  • @brianbuck70 Except a lot of the Kinks music was influenced and inspired by the Beatles

  • @tomburley lol really? when they released music at the same time? and their songs are completely different? well if you say so ....

  • @jamreaper Except that not all songs are "completely" different - it's pretty easy to hear similar styles of vocal delivery on many of there earlier tracks. By the way - The Kinks (formally called the Ravens - with no success) came about in 1964....and used the Beatles promoter 'Arthur Howes' to set up there live gigs.

I grew up listening to both bands in the 60's and the Kinks were always being referred to as "A poor copy of the Beatles" - but evoled well into a great band in there own right

  • @tomburley yeah well obviously some songs are not going to be exact opposites, seeing as both bands were english and made music in the same time frame, but the beatles had more smooth vocals, they used less grindy sounds which is what made the kinks popular in the first place

  • @brianbuck70 I agree with you by far on that one buddy.

  • @brianbuck70 Why cut down another great to prop up Ray? You're just closing people's eyes with the negativity.

  • @TroyBlackford No negativity, just saying I prefer Ray's vision and music to Lennons.

  • @brianbuck70 I wouldn't go THAT far...but they are under rated

  • @brianbuck70 true mate anyday easy

  • @brianbuck70 They're both legends in their own right. It doesnt have to be either or you can like them both.

  • Thanks for the memories - the 60's and 70's were so unique.

  • thanks...

  • Wonderful song, perfect video.

  • ahh memories of,, simpler more innocent times

  • cool song :D

  • I remnember this from 1982-83. A shitton better than anything American Idol brings us today. ;)

  • good MTV memory from the early 80s. they used to play this one a lot. one of Davies better ones.

  • What a great song! Ray was absolutely right when he said, "You end up blowin' all your wages for a week, all for a cuddle and a peck on the cheek." However, this tune still brings back good memories.

  • Come dancin'

  • I love this song. This is one of my favorite songs EVER. Was it really done in 1982? Seems like yesterday. I love Ray Davies. The charwomen at the end - Davies always *saw* charwomen....and other types overlooked. Bless him.

  • Who are the 23 Jackinapes that dont like this song ???

  • @dantless Who cares?. They're tone-deaf, joyless idiots.
