I'd suggest that anyone who is concerned about animal abuse should find someone who does draft horses, and spend some time around them. Muck some stalls, feed them, groom them and talk to the owners. Sure some owners are idiots, but the ones that I know treat their horses better than people.
I share my life with a Belgian, and love her dearly. She doesn't pull, but I ride her as often as I can.
Okay, people complaining about this being cruel to draft horses:
They love this sort of stuff. A draft horse who doesn't like something can sure as hell TELL you when he doesn't like it. In the form of running everything over if it came to his mind.
You can tell if my draft horse doesn't like a person. She just bumps them over and walks away!
I was at that draft horse show last year and was there again this year. I have my own youtube video for the 2007 show. I can assure you, those horses are pampered. If you wandered around the stables for four days like I did, you would see that. Also, there are pretty much adored by everyone there

i feel bad for the horses. they are probobly hurt after the show. i didnt like the video one bit. im sry but it seems cruel to make them pull stuff just for a ribbon and maybe some money.
those pulling horses are what made america what it is today . those horses love to pul, they are like body builders, and those owners take good care of them. so i would assume you think whipping a horse to go around a race track is crewl also?
Of course you feel bad for them, if you don't understand it. I've always had smaller horses, just got into drafts last year. They have a different mentality, they're BORN to work and pull. Remember they each weigh a ton, the wagon is about 1000#. It's harder on a riding horse, than it is for these guys. Do you ride in classes to win ribbons? No difference here. It just isn't what you're used to. I suppose you think racing is okay and acceptable? Show jumping? Steeplechasing?
do you show? is your horse hurt after the show? you weigh what- guessing at 200lbs. your arab weighs- about 1000lbs. each draft horse weighs 2000lbs(a ton) there are eight of them- thats 16000lbs of horse!each horse alone can pull twice their weight in DEAD weight. in compitiioons they are pulling about 1000lbs. yeah poor giant horses...LOOSER! THINK BEFORE YOU TYPE!
Actually it has nothing to do with their necks really the collar (the part around the neck) is a pushing device they push against it they are not actually pulling it's a whole physics thing...and as long as you warm 'em up just like you would yourself in an sport they are just fine.
this was awesoem!.. my aunt had an eight horse team ocnce and they ran her over wagon and all... fortunetly she was unscathed save a scratch... there amazing animals...
What an amazing video. My boyfriend and I attended the 2005 show and were blown away. Unfortunately we were unable to attend this year, but you have made my day. I typed in Great Lakes International Horses, and low and behold there it was. Thanks..Sarahlynn, Northville,Michigan
There's nothing better than watching a well trained team that enjoys what they do work.

I think the weight pull is amazing! The horses seemed to take off as soon as they were hooked up to the truck.
