Ugh! I need to finish watching this movie. This scene has made me curious. lol Ben's character here look like to me started getting nervous when girls were mentioned at 0:30. I'm guessing the other guy picked up on something about that and started making him uncomfortable.
The quality is not good enough, but at 1:06 his hand is shaking slightly... omg, I have tried acting professionally, andI have not the slightest idea how he is able to play something like that... He's so fantastic.
Am I correct in assuming that this scene takes place after Peter has stolen that file? And this guy is picking up on him being suspiciously nervous and trying to figure out what he's up to? Haha, out of context, this scene seems like it could be something else entirely.
How far into the movie is this scene supposed to be, had it been included?
It just feels to me Soldier is hinting around Guillam's sexuality to scare him off, since the character is so secretive about it in the movie. That being said, Ciarán Hinds was really misused in this movie.
@blackkatdiamond I don't quite recall who the other fella is, but I think Peter was sent to talk him and get some information out of him. Nearing the end, when the other fellow grabs Peter's coat, I do believe that is when he starts to subtly hit on Peter. Which is why Peter had such a disturbed look on his face and his movements were quite agitated.
@Blackmantle1 Yeah I kinda got that impression from Benedict's face, but I didn't want to say it. But how was he hitting on him? Was he talking about dancers? thats what it sounded like...
@blackkatdiamond LOL totally me, too. Especially I read an interview in which Benedict was saying that he was "broody." Goodness, he can be broody with me any day. ^_~
After he grabs the coat, the fellow starts talking about cars (that's the type of car he has, a Dancer) and his age probably trying to elicit a compliment to his current figure and impress Peter with his money. Plus there was the rather lecherous side looks he was giving Peter. In the past you had to know subtlety
@gaedhal Thanks. I was wondering about a car type called Dancer. Had never heard of it before, though since this movie is from the...seventies?...that wouldn't surprise me.
@Blackmantle1 I don't think he's hitting on Peter, but he implies that Peter is not loyal to Alleline ("I suppose it takes time" "What does?" "Loyalty"), hence Peter is worried that Bland suspects that he is more loyal to Control still (which is true, of course). Bland is one of the top five of the circus and one of the suspects for being the mole, he's 'soldier*. The purpose of the meeting is just having an informal beer between colleagues
@mabuse1976 Looks like I need to watch the movie again. Even though you're telling me these things I can't place him in any other scenes. Your interpretation makes sense as well. For all that Peter was a scout, he really wasn't comfortable with the espionage things he had to do, though he did them admirably.
