Could you please tell what kind of food processor you two use. I wanted to buy one. Which one do you guys recommended? Thanks so much for sharing such wonderful recipes. You two are awesome.
Some brands of sour cream do contain gelatin, however there are many that don't. The ingredients are cream, milk and enzymes (microbial). Some store brands like Kroger distinguish the two: "Original" has gelatin and "All Natural" does not.
i'm not the same person with the greek yogurt idea but i did try it, it turned out all right but the cream cheeze was better,i think it has to do with thick ness ,don't get me wrong there both good,although using the greek yogurt it healthier
Thanks for your feedback. Traditionally, this dessert is made by hanging yogurt until it is almost the consistency of cream cheese. Although Greek yogurt is strained and thicker than regular yogurt, it is still not thick enough. But you're right, it is healthier :).
omg i wanna make this! i use to hate anything that had to do with mangoes but after watching this vid and another vid that you did showing how to make mango ice cream im willing to give it a try. plus you 2 are so pretty lol bye!
I just made this today and it was a HIT! Best was that it was sooooooo simple! Where has this been all my life?! Thank you so much for posting this. Keep up the great work ladies!
Sooo Easy!!! Soooooo Elegant!!!!! My family was blown away. I substituted light philadelphia cream cheese and light sour cream-the result was so light and fluffy. If one person grinds the cardamom seeds with a pestle, and one person slices the mango you can throw this together in 5 minutes. We added this to our rotation of summer fruit desserts. I am making this for a Bollywood Birthday party for my daughter. HINT: there is no substitute for fresh ground cardamom!!!
I tried this recipe today and it is indeed shrikhand, infact better then the old style ( by hanging yogurt in cloth overnight, making maska and all that). My kids loved it. Thats what I like about your recipies ladies..its quick and easy..I am going to try your kalakand recipie also. Please keep up the good job. Thanks a million.
ok..ive asked before..if we were to use mango pulo from can how much would we use?? pls answer i want to try this as i dont get sweet mangoes where i live!
Looks marvelous -- and as Anuja says, and I agree, dessert is the most important part of a meal!! Although I've enjoyed Shrikhand before, either store bought or at a restaurant I've never attempted to make it myself. So, my question is this: Since I'm not all that familiar with grades of saffron, just know it's usually fairly pricey, do you have any suggestions for what to look for, or which brand to buy for a recipe like this?
Thanks, ladies, for your wonderful recipes and good cheer!
Mmmmm mouth-watering!!! A couple of doubts ... I've heard of people using curd to make shrikhand (i don't know how, though). Is this cream cheese expensive? High calories/fattening? How to make this same thing with curd?
This is a quick version of shrikhand. For the original method, just hang yogurt in a cheese or muslin cloth for 4-6 hours. The yogurt will become very thick (like the cream cheese we are using). Then, proceed with the rest of the steps. Cream cheese is fairly inexpensive (about $1 to $1.50 for an 8 ounce bar). It does have some fat but this is not a dessert you eat a whole lot of. :)
I think it works much better when you tie up the sour cream in a cheese cloth and hang it overnight such that the water from the sour cream is drained. Otherwise, it tends to excrete water when you just leave it in the fridge...Just a thought :)
Haha I always love how enthusiastic Hetal is about eating all of your recipes. She makes all of us viewers hungry to try all you show us on your channel.
@DiamondApple100 I thing the long form name is cling stone. Various fruits with that seed in the middle are called clingstones, like peach, plums , mangos etc/
We've never tried it but it should be ok. Greek yogurt tends to be thicker than normal yogurt so it should work well. Please post your feedback if you decide to try it.

Can I use any kinds of cheese, other than cream cheese?
yeshaMF 10 months ago
@yeshaMF
Not for this recipe. The traditional method would be to hang yogurt (similar to greek yogurt but stiffer) and use it instead of the cream cheese.

@masala2510
You can start with about 1/2 cup and then taste it and go from there. You don't want to add so much that it makes the shrikhand very runny.

For safety, I never cut toward me, like when you slice the mango. I'm sure your knife skills are fine, but for the clumsy it's best to show it safe.

The sour cream adds a bit of tanginess and smoothens the texture but you can leave it out.
