I find it easy to get 1 or two pawns up but played badly and have a hard time winning often come from 4 or 5 points up to lose, I was a 875ish now after this video and the first one I play a 1150ish!!!!
at 3:08 after the bishops get traded, couldnt black just do a passive move, ie not moving either the queen or the rook in danger of being forked, wait for white to move the knight to the outpost, and then simply pin the white knight via moving the queen to d7? because then if white still takes the rook than can't black simply take the queen and can achieve a fairly good position?
Maybe you could number your videos, so we know what order to do them In. When you mentioned outposts, luckly I had seen the outpost movie, but when movies are partily joined, you will want to know what order to do them in. A playlist might work too.
Sorry for this comment, but I think that out post at 5:28 actually has too many weaknesses. Though the knight can take the bishop, rook, queen and eventually the other rook, if you move the queen back to the original position, the knight cannot attack anymore. Though it is a good place, the knight would have to wait for an attack. Besides that, if the pawn had taken, then the queen wouldn't have needed to move at all. I admit it is a great spot, but some of them are bad.
the music they put in the beggining is starting to annoy me... they should put something more sticky.... well thats my opinion, but the videos are great though... i learn a lot every time i see one but just fix the music ok... thanks...
sorry, seen this example a few places. I really didn't think reusing a chess example would frowned upon. I really was just trying to teach an important chess concept to everyone. My goal was not to pirate anything at all. Hopefully you know this.
I am currently redoing the website and have a whole section that will be up going over the basics of chess... position, material, tempo, development that I think your friends will be able to learn from.
WOW! great lessons! I've been playing for two years and got quite good at chess just based on experience and instincts. Now I'll even have more reason to do my moves thanks a lot I watch the whole middle game strategy today! keep up truly appreciate your videos
I appreciate the ideas and strategy that you emphasize throughout your videos. These are making me a better player, and ultimately a more thorough and precise decision maker.
Keep making strategy videos, I think they are so much more helpful than just openings, because many users already have a ton of openings uploaded, but your middle game strategy videos are unique!
I agree blits. The openings are kinda straight forward but these get into the heart of chess. I definitely will be making more of these in the future.
Good info. But, in the initial position it appears black has made only 5 moves (3 pawn moves, 2 rook moves), whereas white has made at least 9 moves (5 pawn moves, 2 bishop, & 2 knight moves)? Did black move out both knights, then move them back to their starting squares (this would account for blacks missing 4 moves)?
5 stars, great lesson. I'm only new to playing good chess, I'm still learning, and this video taught me a great deal about when and when not to trade. I noticed the moves for the two outpost situations very quickly, although I second guessed myself on the second one for a long period only to see my first thought was in fact correct. Thanks again!
at the beginning white can take the black rook

@suavedude2 especially since at that point black can use his remaining rook to control the C-file and start picking off whites pawns

queen can go f7? =)

at 3:35, we can save either black queen or black rook by moving black queen to b6 XD

At 5:24 wouldnt the best move for white be to move the pawn on g2 to take the bishop and leave the queen on d1 to defend the white bishop on c2?

Hi Kevin
Could you maybe do a Part 3 in the Trading series on trading down to reduce or blunt the opponents initiative?

Could you make a video teaching the basics of position, material, tempo and development.
I have some friends who I'd like to teach chess to, and I'm sure you could communicate these concepts better than I

This is a great idea. I will definitely do this. Thanks for the suggestion.
