Yes the big tank in the back was a water wagon for men and mules when they stopped at dry camps. It's really cool to see this living history up close and personal!
My husband was one of the miners walked to the gate Sunday morning. We are not very happy right now, but if you want to comment do it on Rio Tinto's videos. Maybe they will pay attention.
We understand the Borax 20-Mule Team will be here in Bishop Ca for the 40th annual Bishop Mule Days May 18-24th. The world famous Budweiser Clydesdales, the Priefert Percherons and Texas Thunder will be joining them. It's going to be a great show.
To negotiate the tight curves in the mountains, they would cut off the first 10 mules then the skinners would lead them around the curves till straight road. Then the skinners would drive the remaining 10 and wagons around the curve till they met up with the first set, then hook up and go. Try that in 130 degree heat-tough mules, tough men!
The Museum is owned by the Chamber of Commerce and it is in no danger. I am planning on trying to do some archival work to the small animatronic display in the museum as it is in a state of decay, but there are no plans for anyone to destroy the name of Borax.
May they keep the Mules as a part of our Americana and not let the new owners destroy the name Borax and the museum and the fiberglass mules and wagons...
Thank you so much for posting this!!

I assume that big tank being pulled behind the wagons must have been full of water for the people & the mules while traveling through the desert.
