Terrorists often plan suicidal missions, so I don't think they'd worry about being shot to death as they were about to blow up a plane. Also, who knows the state of mind of the armed pilot (i.e, is he or she emotionally stable or feeling a bit suicidal?) Then there are the many other reasons planes crash...So, no, I don't think I would necessarily feel that much safer if pilots were armed. Still, the video brought a chuckle.

I fly for A/A. We are armed in the cock-pit. There is a sign on the door to not enter or risk getting shot. It is locked, so if it is broken into you will not see anything but 3 bullets in your face. Things have changed since 9/11. Also, there is a myth that if you shoot a hole in the plane, it will suck you out and all that, you know what would happen? It would poke a hole the size of the bullet, a bunch would make us simply raise cabin pressure. Hit a window? stick a plate over it and land.

I think it would be a lot better if everyone just kept their seat belt on through the whole flight and if anyone got up or made trouble the pilot just gets aerobatic on your arse. Hard to hold people hostage on a plane if the thing is going 6 g positive, 3 g negative every 15 seconds or so.

Well certainly the size of a melon. I'm more worried about the bloody great hole that it goes on to make in the ceiling while taking out a wad of cables and pipes.
