i went to camp with my choir (last year 10th grade) and ysaye was there. it was a camp and confrence camp. like a workshop of music. if you want to go this year and meet ysaye search rowe camp and conference center on google and look at the calender. it an amazing experience you will never forget im 16 and going there changed my life its a very beautiful warm, spiritual place. of happiness, and singing. you dont even need to know how to sing to go. you just need to find peace and be happy. =]
Ysaye was just our conductor for all state, and she was amazing! and ya, she can hit a low G! she actually sang the bass' part for them! I'm an alto and can barely hit a low C... but she was incredible!
What exactly is your question? Having a female bass voice is not that unusual ... there are tons of women - of all ethnicities - that can sing very low, as is evidenced by the many a cappella groups in America (and around the world!)
I'm curious about the bass line. I have a deep voice for a woman, and can comfortably project (within reason) a C3 (C below middle C). I can go down to Bb below that, but not with any power. I was wondering just how unusual or rare this is? I have often been mistaken for a male over the phone. My father was a bass and my mother was an alto I think (going by their speaking voices; neither sang).
Any comments, anyone? The only low note in this song I can't hit is the one just before the end.
i went to a confrence camp with my class this year and ysaye was ther i LOVE her we ate together and talked together and yeah bassaclly lived together fr 4 days
Sweet Honey in the Rock is a very inspirational group.
I go to Hatboro Horsham Senior High school, and our choir is going to be singing with them. They'll be at our school for a day or two, and we'll get to preform Wanting Memories with them. I really can't wait for that day! I'll be sure to get a friend to take a video, so that more people can experience the beauty of music that is Sweet Honey in the Rock~ :D
Dr Bernice is inspiration for us all. One of the greatest American women of all time. She's right up there with Alice Walker, Josephine Baker, Jenifer Lewis, Toni Morrison, and I could go on.....
Am soooooo stoked to go see Sweet Honey in Philadelphia on Feb. 20th!

She is the lovely Isaye Maria Barnwell. You should listen to her song, "No Mirrors in my Nana's House."

Sweet honey in the rock is an amazing group of singers.
They got introduced to me last year by my music teacher and i freaking love them.
We did a song by them last year for our spring concert and we plan on doing more of their songs.
They are so full of passion and love for the sound.
I love them.
