Can I just ask a question..... I've always didn't understand why people just leave things the way they are when abandoning a place. Why wouldn't they take the curtains, desks, chairs, chalk? Sometimes, you see toilet paper. I don't know why they leave things there. If their purpose it to leave the building and close it down....they should take all of the items.... No? Went today on my own. Im 6 foot 2 inch & fairly athletic & i will never go back there. It felt so bad from the second I got in there. Odd noises, creaking & banging & the feeling of being watched. When I saw someone walking away from me at the other end of the debris strewn corridor, I nearly died. I have never wanted out of somewhere so quick in my life. Think your brave , then go there on your own. Its an evil place & should be torn down. God knows who was in there with me. Dont wanna know.

But this is part of the New Wave Urbex smash explorer genre in the UK. Most of these buildings were scheduled to be demolished. Basically what the council did was rip all the tiles off the roofs and left the buildings to rot in the rain for years before demolition.

This was a signal for the new wave urbexers to start the smashfest.

Iv'e been inside there at 12pm when it was pitch black, 5 of us went in with torches for about an hour or so.

We had to climb out when we left! Typical i was the last one to climb fucking out! it was dark, my torch was robbed from me! hahaha it was fuck shit fucking scary!....

Thank god that mental health treatment has moved forward with the times and sick people are not confined to buildings like this anymore. No person deserves to be locked away in places like this and treated like animals. Don't mock people who are sick either because the truth is that anybody can go crazy but some people have a higher chance because of inheriting parents genes if they are sick etc.

I trained as a nurse here from 1980 to 1983 and worked as a staff nurse. I found it to be a most congenial and restful place for people. It's a great pity the govt. shut the place down and sent the patients (some had lived there for decades) into smaller homes. This was a national disgrace and kept hush hush. I was moved to Manchester in 1993 to another big hospital, Prestwich (now gone land bought by a supermarket)People need asylum...I'm ready for it.

the tunnels travel all the way underneath everything rumour is there is a secret passage now that has been covered up years ago which leads to the church and into the hospital im not to sure about near the car because that used to be an old house were the manager (owner) used to live if u climb up the wall on to the roof you can get into there through the window that house is supposedly haunted though also do not go in thru the big window tht is broken its not safe to stand on any of the floor

and yes there is underground passages they were used to transport medication and people through there used to be around 7 or 8 diffrent exits in the tunnels but they have been blocked off it is very hard to get into the basement with the roof collapsed but if you could find a way im sure you would be very shocked to find old machines etc.. down there also a part of it is still open with security hu check the premises also if u can find a way go in the old church its amazing scary but dont worry

wittingham was not full of lunatics my grandad worked there he told me that people with stress (blah blah blah) were put in there because in the early years nobody know about stress and such so normal people was also in there but now it has a lot of reports of being haunted and very dangerous my grandad says dangerous yes haunted no chance but there did used to be a lot of torture to the people who got sent there like not being fed or given medication just left them to scream and shout..........
