Glad to see some people know about the 8-track 'technology'. Thats all we had that worked in your pimped out ride in the seventies.....This is the funkiest song that I have ever heard...that baseline stays in my head like a sweet memory...Duke and Clake are musical geniuses....lets not allow this art to be lost please?
i know that so do not come at me like i feeble minded. I know my music. I go all the way back. I not just stuck on some of this modern day bullcrap they play nowadays. Besides some of the "play no games song" use the beat on the hooks not the whole song. Now i going to keep it movin and you do the same.
Well you said it guy,not me,and you said it as if scarface was tha only one to use it.Look down at what you wrote dude.Nor did I ask you whether you kno your music or now.Jus corrected you when you were wrong. You didn't say " I know that" ,at first so don't come at me like that period!Whoever knows that song knows that Lil Jon didn't use it for tha whole song,DUH and jus because you a lil older and go way back doesn't mean you know everything there is about every oldskool artist.
have been searching for 18 years. there was another rap group i wanna say somewhere between the years of 88-90 that sampled specifically the very start of the bass solo. any help would be appreciated. been lookin for that song for 18 years. please help
that bass was not played by bootsy...it was played by a good friend of mine named byron miller...he is also the bass player on reach for it....and the song "for you" is on the reach for it album and on the other side of the 45 reach for it
Not being funny but where did you get that George did this as part of his name? I am curious as I always heard that it did have reefer connection or connotations. Either way, this song is FUNKin Great!!
Now that you mention it!! I never partook - mind you - but I always thought it interesting that there are many names to describe "plain ol' weed". Let's see! There is cannabis, blunt, joint, herb, hemp, mary jane, marijuana, bud, jamaican gold, dubie, reefer, grass. That's all I can recall but I wonder how many more there are!
That is the station I listened to forever until their demise. Now I do not really much care for the stations we have locally. KISS and KBLX is kool but I miss the days of KDIA. And my wife taking Sly lunch before the Family Stone fame. Have you ever heard of the Motivators band? The Funkanauts band? Check them out as the Motivators evolved into the Funkanauts. Local FUNK band playing their hearts out today. MySpace Funkanauts and on YouTube as well. More videos coming soon.
I do not care if those two sample this song all right. I like this original song better without no one covering this. I loved this song it is a classic and no one cannot touch this song. This is one of my greatest best song ever. I loved the instruments of this tune it make this song just right too period.
Oh my goodness. I have been looking for this song. My father used to play this in the house all the time. "We want to sing to you". That's my jam. It's amazing that you added like two days ago and I happened to pull it up.

Back in the day Dukey meant joint, refer, maryjane et al. Or how about a twist, a duble' or just plain ol' weed.

George, this song rocks my socks - good time, funky, groovy party music. I was a teen in the late 70s - great time. I had the album back then.

I was a teen in the late 1970's growing up in MOTOWN havin a funkin good time too!
tonwil06 4 years ago
Me too (teen in 70s part). Son of Slovenian immigrants raised in Haughville (Indy) just down the block from Babyface (he was in Manchild back then).
"Party Down" blared in the streets. First concert was with my next door neighbor: Cameo and Castor Bunch at the Armory in Indy.
Funk is, was, and always will be the best.
Long live bands that had 13-15 members (the whole freaking neighborhood). Those days are gone.
