  • Hey i wanted to know what mic you used for this video?

  • Me too, I love Bach, he's my favorite composer. <3

  • This is my audition piece for College. Beautiful Bud! the only thing i don't really like is that you started down bow, the first G is a pick up. :P But that's about it.

  • excellent!

  • What edition is that? Just wondering. Nice playing.

  • bach would love you for this intepretation!(: very inspiring

  • very very good. enjoyably cheesy.

  • Bravissima!!!!!!!You just feel the music!It's fantastic!

  • Excellent playing !

  • wonderful! :)

  • favourite movement of bach solo string instrument works! ever!

  • HA!!! i'm glad i'm not the only one who makes "faces" when I play! You inspire me to stay the same... people make fun of me for it though :(... o well!

  • Me too, I have a tendency to grind my teeth when I'm playing so that when I'm done practicing, my jaw is more sore than my arm!

  • No matter how many "faces" he makes, as he plays wonderfully, it does not matter at all, dear : D

Forget the others, play thoroughly. I'm counting on you!

  • The faces isn't the funniest part about how he looks. It's the way he moves. Still, sounds very good.

  • You are going really fast, but I still like it.

  • I love how you play, and how you have interpreted this. Love it love it love it. And I disagree with the comment about your facial expressions. I think they are fine. I can see the joy. The only thing I notice with your playing is you have 'flying fingers' sometimes on your left hand but it doesn't seems to matter. You are an awesome cellist.

  • that was beautiful ^^

  • I dunno why but I love this performance of Bach's courante more so than most celebrity cellist performances

  • wow. That's superp. What an awesome tone!

  • Love this one John! Beautiful as always. Dori

  • Grazie!

it's impressive how you play in tune...

You demonstrated a deep understanding of the rhytmical structure also. Surprises, fireworks, pace.

    You've gottit all.

  • Excellent!I like your Bach suites!I look forward your another works.

  • I love cello, and how you play it! Congratulations

  • That was wonderful, I loved it!

  • awesome! the head bobbing was a bit unnessecary (sp?) but still good!

  • Excellent!!!!! Bravisimo!!!! you are excellent cellist you play this how bach would like to this be play

  • Your phrasing is impeccable. Awesome! No amount of virtuosity can ever replace an understanding of the music, and you've got that in spades. =)

  • I like your interpretation but maybe tone could match a little better. Otherwise very nice style.

  • what kind of cello is that???

  • i thinks u got the yo yo ma head bobbin thing goin on. I liked it! check out my vids!!!

  • very nice sound

you look kinda funny playing it, but hey everybody has their own style!

thanks for sharing yours. byyeee :)

  • this piece is actually a corrente. excellent phrasing

  • I like your performance way.

Though the Speed have little slow

    but I like it.

I played this song on Double Bass for one

month but still not verry good.

    Look at you!

    I envy you.

  • great sound! lol nice head bobbing.

  • Wow! Great sound!Congrats :)

  • i am right this second writing up an analysis of this part of the suite. and i must say its a lot more enjoyabe to listen to it (or play it for that matter) than it is to write about it haha.

your cello sounds lovely too, was a very nice rendition :).

  • No...nonono you must be thinking of some other courante im a celleist and sry bt ur wrng

  • Hmm the version of Courant I have must be wrong. There are no slurs and I think I am missing a few bars too.

  • there like 17 different editions to the bach suites, and none of them are wrong. I like Barenrieter personally, but none of them are "wrong", just different

  • AH I see. Well I like this version better :). I did end up finding one like it and am practicing that currently.

  • Why do you start on a down bow? I've always played this up. btw, what edition is that? Nice work.

  • I have a Louis & Clark cello the 5-string model and playing the cello suites are a blast.

  • I'm learning the whole suite right now so I'm trying to learn fingerings. This really helped. I love the way you play by the way. Your amazing!

  • ur extremely good. u play with feeling and ur intonation is superb. what kind of cello do u use?

  • very clean playing

i like it, very good bow technique

  • Interesting interpretation and choice of vibrato. Bow control looks good.

  • very interesting interpretation of bach. the music is very beautifull. only the ornaments are a bit too simple. but you play very clean and tuned.GOOD

  • FINALLY someone who likes to play the cello for themselves. GOod interpretation. Mastering teh dynmaics is crutial at your level.

  • wow you're really enthusiastic, keep it up :D

  • Oldskool!

  • Absolutely amazing sir!

I have a question. There is a song from a movie I own that is played with a cello. The movie is called 'Galerians: Rion.' At the very end of the movie is the piece I'm talking about.

If I was to send you the mp3 do you think you'd be able to play it?

I've always wanted to see someone play it live.

  • Awesome. I love the dynamic contrast and musicality. I'm playing this on my trombone right now.

  • good job on this!

i would say, make sure to REALLY bring out the diminished chord on the d sharp! not the one above the staff, the one before it =)

  • I thought it was really really good and love the fact that you are so involved when you are playing. Keep it up. You have inspired me and my other two friends who also play cello, we are the cello trio!

  • Great!! Really well played!

You have really accurate pitch that makes it sound so clear.

I respect, I always get out of bow-length everytime I play this piece.

  • Wow. Great work. Sounds awesome. I too like the spontaneous musicality of the performance. However, I'm not too big of a fan of the body movements.

  • You should see a Kazuhito Yamashita video

  • im in love with all your videos

    your amazing

  • I like the legato interpretation you did, John. I hate the choppy version that cellists play so I refuse to learn the courante. It's a dance, isn't it? So, it should go about the speed of one. Good work!

  • I really like the spontaneity, especially what you do with the trills

  • Hi John, you happy chap you,I think you play it just fine, same as me in fact and my teacher is one of the best exsponets of Bach in the U.K. After all,it is ment to be a dance not a race! (wont mention names) like some people seem to play it. At the end of the day its like anything else, its open to artistic interpretation. What I dont like, if I may be as bold to say so,is all the body movement etc, (loose the mirror might be a start) Best wishes

  • yet another great preformance by the great john

can not wait to see another

  • Hehheh I'm not gonna say anything new here when I say that "you're a really good cellist." However, I noticed that you look really happy when you're playing the cello, especially right at the beginning of this piece. You look like you really adore playing the instrument, and you're inspiring in that sense. I'd say more, but Youtube won't let me. lol

  • Try speeding up the beginning. It sounds like it's dragging on on that part. Besides that, everything else was absolutely gorgeous. Keep up the excellent work!

  • I like it, but it's all too legato! This interpretation has long notes which should be shorter!

  • Great stuff!

  • I LOVE hearing YOU play Bach!!

  • Yeah. He plays a mean Bach!

    Good Stuff!

  • your approach is much more legato and slower than cellojourney- but i still like it :) could you post Bach's 5th gigue please?

  • Simply marvelous and such a joy for me to watch you play!

  • hahax! wow! this is great!! =D

  • very very nice

  • that was awesome, this was the first piece i played on the cello, other that the suzuki pieces

  • Great to see you on again. Beautiful. Thanks as always.

  • amazing work

    i highly admire your work

    insperation burst form this piece
