Roberto Benigni's Pinocchio: In Pictures

I recently saw this movie with English overdub. I prefer reading subtitles but found I was able to get engrossed in the film nonetheless and was laughing outloud because of the actor who played Pinocchio. He was priceless! I thought the same thing at first, "An adult playing Pinocchio?!" but he was perfect... Like Will Ferrell in "Elf" and Tom Hanks in "Big"--- totally captured the spirit of a child. This presentation of Pinocchio left a bigger impression on me than Disney's... life lessons:)

Pinocchio is a fable written by Collodi in the Italian Risorgimento. This is Italian literature! Comencini's film of 1972 is the closest to the original!

When people talk abotu Pinocchio, ironically they almost NEVER talk about or refer back to the original Collodi story. Having seen several film and musical adaptations of Pinocchio, along with this, I can safely say that it's one of the closest film adaptations out there. The dub is mediocre, I will admit, and I think if people go in not having read the original story, it might throw a few people off, but all in all, I thought it was a charming little movie. The only reason why this movie is underrated is because decided to play Pinoccio's role himself, and that's IT!!! The whole movie is a masterpiece.

The dub is terrible. I've never seen the original but I doubt it's much better. And for Italians to complain about the poor dubbing is pretty ironic. In every country in Europe except Italy, they show foreign language films using subtitles. But in Italy, everything is dubbed into Italian.

About the movie...i´ve never saw it in spanich (i´m mexican) But...i like Roberto so much,you know he might be in he´s 50´s but he has all that sparkle and magic and good energy inside him!

I think that´s very good in these early days,evrithing is difficult now and you see him and...start to feel alittle bit better :P

Come si fa a dire questo Pinocchio è meglio di quello di Comencini?Benigni sarà pure un grande ma questo film è veramente brutto:Pinocchio è un bambino non è un cinquantenne che fa finta di essere di legno! La fatina è una fatina non una con la faccia da cassiera delle Poste. Nel Pinocchio di Collodi veniva enfatizzata la povertà di quell'epoca, in questo film viene enfatizzato lo sfarzo e il lusso. Per me è solo un film irritante fatto per piacere agli americani.

Sì Benigni fa davvero ridere l'ho odiato. Nino Manfredi nel ruolo di Geppetto è inimitabile, ma anche Giuffrè è stato bravino. Per la Volpe e il Gatto sia Ingrassia e Franchi che i Fichi d'India sono state ottime scelte

Same here. I had to switch back to Italian after 5 seconds of the English dub. I just change the language with my remote rather than switch between the US cut and the original Italian version

Very very ugly film. The best Pinocchio is "le avventure di Pinocchio" by Luigi Comencini (1971). Find some clip on youtube.

Actually that picture along with a couple more in this video where never supposed to be seen by the public. Apparently they were taken for Roberto's private bondage collection. This video is missing the picture of Gepetto walking Roberto on a leash, but if it was included here it would show that Gepetto put him in the doghouse to punish him for being a "bad dog"..... Because in the film, Pinocchio gets caught in a trap on some property after escaping a trip to jail and the man who lives there finds Pinocchio and makes him a guard dog because the man's previous guard dog had died.
