  • The golden age of racing, never to be repeated & never to be forgotten!!

  • Modern muscle, while being some seriously-engineered vehicles, are paper champions. They're as boring & bland are driving gets, and make 20 y/o's think they're heroes. Steering-wheel attendants, in a retail car. Modern cars have a place in my memories, but 70's muscle will always be my daily driver. That's Driving! I'm only in my early 30's, but I was brought-up right ;)

  • 1975 torana was an L34 also

  • Now they were cars that you really drove, no bloody computers or anything to assist them at all. That was real driving on the seat of your pants.

There is a great DVD you can buy called "40 years of Bathurst".

  • man those holdens are sweet!

  • Fantastic.....;.but why ruin it with a music overlay?????, the sound of those muscle cars is all the music you need!!!!!!!!

  • How does this have 2 dislikes? Im an American and I know nothing about Aussie racing, and I LOVED this video! How could you not??? I want one of those Falcon XA GT cars. They never made those here in the states. How much do they go for?

  • @Sodiumreactor I'm with you, don't know how you couldn't love the sounds/sight of these cars. Good sound track too.. Re XA GT Falcon, for a coupe expect to pay anywhere from $60 000 to over $100 000AUD. Maybe we could help each other out...I'm looking to import a 1970 Boss 302 project car from the USA. If you keep an eye out for one of those I'll keep an eye out for an XA ;)

  • @Sodiumreactor

what about tha TORANAS man shit, fuck that ford pony shit! go the general Motors 308 in a small sedan mate and go sideways everywhere you go ! its allabout ballsout fun dude get a torana into ya!

  • awsome vid bro! Love it!

  • Where have all the SLR5000s and SS hatchbacks gone, they use to be everywhere?, where are all the Ford Coupes? Nahh, modern muscle cars are Far better than these ol warhorses. The L34 Hatchbacks did 16.1 second 1/4s and GTHO ran (1 did!!) 14.4 downhill with a tailwind. My stock BA turbo 6 would eat these cars for lunch, and with the A/c on :). They were good in their day, and should just be looked at, as nostalgia. Suitable for a nice quite Sunday drive.

  • @kramrollin69 what happened to them was they were either stolen and stripped,my 1971 XYGTHO was, or now their value has appreciated so much that they are now stored away so normal wear and tear wont lessen their value. I saw a 1977 XC Cobra two door Falcon restored back to original for sale for $70k.....I am sure your BA gets with the program, hope for your sake it maintains its value like the older "warhorses". Oh, they found my old car stripped and burnt out ......bastards destroyed it.

  • @ozphil i hope they got caught

  • @dodgeboy71 Merry Christmas....no, they stripped it bare and burned the rest. I replaced it with a 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 429 Cobra Jet..... still miss the XY though

  • @kramrollin69 Oh, I forgot to mention the old 'HO would do a 13.2 1/4 mile on Dunlop Aquajets..... non slick road tires. I had a 1974 XBGT which would do a 13.6 on road tires, a mate of mine had a 1971 Torana XU-1 which was stock (if you could call them stock) which did a 13.7 quarter mile and would beat my XB almost every time. I dont know where your getting those times from, but I can assure you even a stock SLR Torana would comfortably run 14 sec quarter miles.

  • @ozphil Ok, Ok, I knew someone whos dad had a Mustang that runs 11s stock, and someone elses father owned a Brocky Commodore that run 10s dead stock. Ha Ha, Im not going to bite into your argument, but I know how Slow, I mean, fast GT Falcons were...I use to beat them all the time. A stock XA GT is a 15 second car on a good day. XU1 Toranas!!...13s??? your kidding right? The Best they ever run was a 15.90 with a tailwind. Are you sure you were around back then...I was.

  • @kramrollin69 Yes I was around back then, I was born 1950, I owned a number of Falcons, A Monaro and 2 Commodores, and I raced two Falcons back in the 70's at Oran Park and Amaroo Raceway, no point in an argument, I dont believe I can convince you.

  • @ozphil No worrys ozphil, Ive always had a soft spot for the old GTs, never been into GM stuff. But I do know that Ex and Current "Vintage" GT owners do waffle on about their 160 mph speed (yeah off a cliff) :), and super performance, dreams, which are more a result of fogy memory and exaggeration. Keep it up tho, the youngins might believe ya. But us Oldies, we know the truth, stock GTs were struggling to get out of the 15s. My Hillman Hunter Royal GT use to beat XU1s .yes fair dinkum!!. :)

  • @kramrollin69 LMAO....a bloody Hillman Hunter....GT no less....beating XU-1's..... I think that night shift is getting to you..... next is Austin Kimberleys thrashing XyGT's. All the best Mate. I see from your channel you like Dodge Challengers, at least we can agree they are an awsome vehicle!!!

  • @kramrollin69 the new ones are too sanitized. My mate has a HG 350 n while it proably wont beat a modern car it roars, rattles, shakes n the cab fills with tyre smoke(traction control is for pussies!!) n you get out with a huge smile on your face. As for the new muscle cars, they will never be worth the money of the old cars, they build too many of them to be rare.

  • now new modern car can ever ever be as cool as old muscle car period

  • how come there aint no hz type holdens?

  • Comment removed

  • Being Fair I Reckin Collin Bond Won 77' Bathurst

  • @GohanDragonBallz123 Yeah, I agree, except his Boss, Big Al told him to stay back so they could get the old car 1 first then car 2 second. Bullshit I know.

  • Real Nice !! Great Memories !! P.S. - tongue-in-cheek .. let's not forget the hopelessly, useless LOSERS of those peerless Bathurst days either. Like that poor pathetic klutz, one Bill Brown. It seemed that virtually every time he went out, he'd spectacularly crash his machine, in very short time. Apologies to Bill + his kin .. but those who remember this annual BB 'farce' in the 70s would surely agree that he should never have been permitted to be out there amongst the pro's.

  • @colindominy - Actually, it is true that Bill Brown finished on his roof 3 Bathursts out of four from 69 to 72, but at least two of them were not his fault (Mike Savva appears to have been the cause in 69, and he never drove Bathurst again, while the 71 rollover was a blown tyre). Bill Brown also set something of a speed record on Conrod Straight, in a Ferrari P4 (not in a touring car race). BB certainly had the cajones for the job.

  • great video, cool cars.

  • This is what NASCAR needs to get back to. Real stock cars and more road courses. Or bring Aussie Super Cars to the states. NASCAR is so weak compared to these guys.

I sure would like to see on the showroom floor that Toyota Camry with the pushrod V8, driving the rear wheels that they're racing in NASCAR.

  • Aussie muscle cars are so cool. Makes me wanna import one watching this video!

  • Just for ANT :P

  • Ahh now that cheered me up. Wish they'd put Bathurst AND 70's Oz cars in Gran Turismo for Play Station.

  • gee i like those 2 door falcon, even though john goss is an arrogant little prick i liked his car.

  • Don't forget the co-drivers -

    1973 - Ian "Pete" Geoghean

1974 - (Big Revvin') Kevin Bartlett

    1975 - Brian Sampson

    1976 - John Fitzpatrick

    1977 - Jacky Ickx

    1978-79 - Jim Richards

  • fantastic alternate views of what you wouldn't see normally!!!.....gives a new feel to this racetrack

  • Bathurst, what is?

  • bathurst is a race track I believe.

has a mad sweeping downhill set of S bends I think.

  • its australias premier supercar racing track....has been since early 60s.....been watching this race for over 30 yrs....each year...R.I.P PETER BROCK......

  • top video and top song

  • Ford Falcon = my dream car

    5/5

  • Sweet video. I wish Ford had built the Falcon here in the US like the one there in Aus. I think its the most evil looking car ever.

  • how come brock never won a bathurst after the rules were changed? eg.if you blow your motor up,u cant drag your team-mates out of the car and continue with that.

or u cant have these ''special'' little manifolds imported directly from the States. since then, every time hes competed in Bathurst has been a complete fail.

  • cause being fair and true was not part of his rules, he was crap just like the team that supported him.

  • damed the holden torana is that what we here in europe cal opel ascona a wow and a v8 fuck

what fun it would be...... great vid man 100 thumbs up and am from norway!

  • Gotta love Aussie Muscle, well done on the Video it's blokes like you that make Youtube worth it, cheers

  • We need more of this brought back TODAY!!!!! Rev it up n' go!

  • Oh yeah - i love the Torana's but the Falcon Coupes are fantastic cars - fantastic video and well put together!! Congratulations to the poster!

  • Wow, I am a holden fan but damn XA, XB and XC's are just extremely attractive cars...maybe I've been watching MadMax too much?

Truth is Fords and Holdens have been pretty close in performance to eachother since day one.

V8 supercars nowadays are completely identical, the only difference is the suspension, brakes etc tuning...it only differs from team to team not brand to brand

  • Awsome Vid, Awsome song.. Keep up the good work for 09 Ford & Holden.. & GO THE FORDS!! lol

  • thanks friend AMINAL this son.

  • fuck those drivers were fearless in those days

  • Could you please tell me what band and that song is this?

  • heart and the song is called Barracuda

  • band is heart... song is barracuda

  • Muscle Car Masters Eastern Creek fathers day.....always great race action, the best one was the 1st one...in the rain, Holden A9X v Falcon XD....awesome race, A9X won...even with a stop go penalty...and im a FORD man i own an XY...those were the days.

  • some big names here...the 1..2 finish was my favorite the falcons were tuff..

  • much better racing then today

  • Great video Mate. R.I.P Peter Brock. when i am older i wanna become a v8 supercar driver and race for HOLDEN! nice video :)

  • Cheers that was awesome, one of the best ive seen, Man what days they were..Beasts!

  • great vid mate!

ahh the 70's back in the day when Ford could actually build a V8 that did more then do the shopping lol

  • Yeah lol I agree with ya. i am a holden fan but i got to say the fords these days are not what they seemed to be now... well they are not that good taxi's sorry lol Yeah but great vid

  • awesome! great soundtrack great footage, well done. wish we could go back in time.

  • 'll say it's good memories !! The good old days where there were more varieties of cars.

Nowdays it's just Ford & Holden, both the same power to weight, now it's all about the driver !

I havent watched Bathurst since the intro of

    V8 Supercars.

Not only that, the dumb fuckwits put a chicane on conrod straight !

How dumb & dangerous is that ??

  • the reason they did that though was because Mike Burgermon (not sure if that is how you spell it) died in 1986 down conrod. it was originally designed to slow the cars down, but they are now getting up to faster speeds than those cars were anyway. so it sorta defyes the purpose lol

  • Sure they go faster down the straight, but have you seen how fast they hit that first part of the chicane ??

Have you also seen how many have not made that first turn and run straight into the sand ?

I'ts dangerous dude, they would have been far better off having a "run off" area at the end of conrod in case of brake failure etc.

Still boring tho, FORD HOLDEN FORD HOLDEN FORD HOLDEN FORD HOLDEN FORD HOLDEN FORD HOLDEN !! WHAT A CROCK !

  • yeh i no wat ur saying. wat i was saying was that it was originally designed to slow them down, but now they are reaching over those speeds now anyway, so it has really defied the purpose of them having it there. It does add one extra overtaking area though, which is why they are keeping it of course. I wonder how much longer it will be before they put another one down conrod. Hell soon they may even put one up mountain straight as well. God i hope not

  • Fantastic video! ALL these old Fords & Holdens were great cars.

    Thanks for putting it up.

  • yeh its great. be good if todays racing was like this. where they were stock cars built for racing. i can only dream lol

  • Ford rule..holdens suck..Brocky should have driven a Ford..after all he was such a top bloke. Sorry Holden fans I owned a VK Commodore for 7 years ((Point taken ???) Cheers all

  • Great clips, why arnt there Utes racing?? LOL

    Some good memories there...

  • oh come on!! the aussie version of the 340 was tamer than the 770 360!!

  • Lucky they never unleashed the E55 340

  • COOL AS HELL THANKS

  • what is the soundtrack of this

  • This track is called Baracuda by the band Heart from 1977.

  • Its a bit lame how holden had to use the smaller and lighter torana to beat the falcons, poor manaro couldnt keep up the pace...

  • Interesting considering the last time the Holden factory team entered Monaros (1969), they won the race.

  • Last time a monaro was entered it was a hq and it was a DNF in 72.

  • The point is, when they made the switch from Monaro to Torana, the Monaro beat the Falcon at its last Bathurst.

Then they went Torana. that doesn't stop the odd bloke entering a no budget effort.

  • so if the "monaro" could beat the falcon so easily, why would holden bother bringing/desiging a piss ant car with a big motor for bathurst if they werent scared of the falcon phase 4?

Let me guess.... because they can?... idiot.

  • It's a bit lame that the GTHO that Ford fans rave on and on about got beat by a 202 Torana, it's actually pretty funny! Lucky the supercar scare killed the 308 LJ or Ford wouldn't have stood a chance.

  • yeh, the phase 4 would of eaten any econo box tornana... point taken.

  • false.

  • an lj with a 308 would have been so front heavy it wouldn't even be able to move let alone punch it along skyline

  • apparently i read a roadtest were they said the lj xu-2 was extremely fast in those days but handled terribly.

  • ford would then have to chuck a 351 in an escort to beat the torrie.. and now by this time bahthurst would be v8 go carts.. see the trend?

  • classic days of real supercars miss them and r.i.p brocky

  • moffat's 71 win with the box on the

front of his gtho.He said the engine

temp did not even change.todays car's

    overheat with one plastic bag.

    1970,71,73,74,77 go the Fords

  • and go holden 1972,75,76,78,79 go holden

  • So your judging a standard road going car as with a 5.8 litre with a claimed 400hp as opposed to a 600+hp injected 5 litre based on one overheating and one not take a moment to think which ones more highly strung and being run to a point where it needs its top end rebuilt every 2 races and a full rebuild every 4. One is built to work at its max and the other is built for the road ill let you ponder which one it is and then ill let you ponder how dumb that statement was.

  • of course i know they where road cars dick.

  • And you didnt take this into account why you victom of sadomy?

  • 78 & 79 - Brocky in the A9X Torana. What a car and what a driver! Awesome vid and perfect music to go with it!!

  • Fantastic, this is how v8supercars should be now , as they are nothing like the car you by in the shop

  • Scenes of those Falcons of the 70's working Panorama always send a shiver up my spine. Well done, really nice vid!

  • Not a bad vid by why not mention the co drivers?

  • 70s and early 80s Bathurst muscle cars....you cant beat em....never ever will.

  • man u need 2 get sum valiant chargers in there .... im doin up a 1968 VE Valiant And im onlii 14... me dad had it for 24 yearz done nuthn with it so he gave it 2 me 2 do up lookn pretty shiit though but itz getnn there

  • Chrysler 300C SRT is RWD V8, why isn't it in the V8 Supercars challenge? If it isn't allowed then V8 Supercars can't hide the fact that it is a Holden vs Ford race category only. Pretty gay if you ask me.

  • Its not that V8S is Holden vs Ford only. Its just no-one will sponsor a 300c team. Traditionally non-Australian car teams are highly unpopular ie the Skylines of the 80's in ATC.

This is because we all like our Holden vs Ford competition, and American shithouse buckets like the 300c can PISS OFF!

  • Yeah wot poreb1 just said, 300c chrisler is too ugly ....

  • So thats why kevin bartlettes camaro held the bathurst record and done extremely well AND had sponsorship from a major australian conglomerate? It raced here for a number of years and remaind one of the most popular group C cars. And lets never forget how enthusisatic the public was about Dick Johnsons sierras.

The 300s C will not be raced in v8 supercars because it hasnt been homoglated and it will remain that way untill it is locally built here which remains doubtful.

  • great stuff xy gtho what a car

  • What I would give to see these cars race when they were new. Sure, you can see them now, racing, but it's not the same. They're worth a lot of money now, and they are so expensive, if possible, to repair if crashed. Exhibition races aren't the same.

  • I wasn't even born, but I wish I was around during these years. Go the Falcons'.

  • Heart with fords or fords with heart that worked for me and incase anyone is interested in 1977 when moffat won colin bond came second in a 1 - 2 finish on the same lap the only time in the history at bathurst

  • old school torries and falcons...hell yea, nice vid

  • Hell yeah!!!

  • they were real drivers in those days. one driver all day. no power steering, abs, cheese cutters, computer diagnostics. bring back the real bathurst. not just ford v holden.

  • in 73 they made it compulsury to have a co driver.

  • what a fantastic video, thanks. That was great..

  • go the falon coups!! lol great vid man, thanx alot

  • legendary cars, legendary track, legendary drivers, legendary racing, legendary video!! GO THE FORDS!

  • I wish there was more footage of the 70s and 80s races on youtube. thanks heaps!

  • Yeah that was awesome,go the Torries, but, the HOey's and hardtops were sweet too!

  • well put together, bloody great, certainly worth the watch.

  • awesome vid...

  • cool vid, song matches nicely

  • great
