Great video Alex Metric. Definitely one of the best from 'In the studio' series. Not every producer is able to tell some interesting things about music production but you actually DO :)
Good, decide on the arrangement early on is probably a good idea, not work on things one end up not using cause it's not necessary. Using loops and patterns like sound presets is also clever.
This track makes me think of being in a San Franscico disco in the early 80's surrounded by a bunch of hard men with thick handlebar mustaches in tight leather chaps and vests.
wow.. really enjoyed this interview THANK YOU for the most original, inspirational and informative interview yet. And thank you Alex Metric for showing us this stuff... awesome idea with itunes and complete randomness. Alex i havent heard of you before but I will definitely start looking out for your stuff.. Just awesome, thanks again!
This was really interesting. He was refreshingly open and honest and gave great insight. Normally a lot of producers are quite guarded when it comes to the nuts and bolts but he was keen to divulge as much as possible. Great vid.
Great Tutorial, nice to see how Ableton and logic works together, but i think he bounced all the audio out from Ableton....., to process these things later in logic !
awesome, love these vids. You should try and get a hold of Skrillex sometime, some people might be against me on that but his production is amazing! big up Futuremusic! :)
@deptofsfelt there is a vst by ni called massive and i can promise you if you looked at a skrillex session it would be on at least ten channels, prob more, skrillex sound = massive
@shonuffLA aw right yeah sorry I get ya now, yeah man I use massive all the time myself. But Skrillex said in an interview to get his signature growls he uses FM8, I got FM8 as well to try it out but haven't got my head around it yet. So really Skrillex=FM8
@deptofsfelt You are right - a lot of Dubstep uses FM Synthesis. The best youtube channel to check out is nextstepaudio which is run by Brian Trifon. Do a search on here for Trifonic: FM Synthesis 101
@172Break seen and favorite em all man i think i'm just lazy and I can go straight to massive and make what I want in 2 seconds but I really want to get into FM8 I know for a fact that its a beast VST so i'm goin to try and get into it more. Goin to see if I can do my next tune all in FM8 and try and not use massive at all...
@deptofsfelt I like to layer FM8 with Massive. Massive is subtractive in design so you get amazing bass. FM synthesis creates extra harmonics when you increase the volume of the modulator. Put the two together and you get the piercing highs and amazing lows! If you use Ableton, Operator is a great place to start for getting into FM synthesis. FM8 has too many options when starting out in FM.
I checked out out your channel - nice bass playing.
@172Break I never actually thought of layering massive with FM8, I must try that. I'm running logic at the moment man, so i have plenty to work with and i shouldn't really have a problem gettin things to fit together. haha thanks man, goin to be puttin more up soon! focusing on producing so much I haven't had time to do any covers.

@soacker25 I think you can use up to 4 bars of a song without infringement? Then looping this same 4 bars would be possible.
