This woman should never have been left on the floor for any length of time. As soon as she collapsed, a doctor or nurse should have been notified. On the other hand, a family member should have been with the woman if she was that ill. It is clear she was ill, since she passed away, but this was a mentally ill ER. If she was having a mental breakdown, her daughter should have been with her. I know that I would have been with my mother.

Although I guess that here in the UK its different, hospitals are run on tax money. In the US it may be different, sand hospitals may be a moneymaking business, in which case I can forgive them for sueing. If someone sued a NHS hospital here in England, I would see that as sick, as its taking money which would go towards a new cancer treatment etc.

I noticed the security guard look in at her just as she fell, and then later rolling off on an office chair. And then also heard how long the woman had been there without getting any help... That man not only had the chance to make right, it was part of his duty to protect, and he did nothing... I didn't see any footage of him going up to her to check on her or anything. That might've been something.
the woman was only 49 years old! It's not like she was 90 yrs and needed constant care and attention from her adult children. She wasn't even 50! The only people who should have seen such a young preventable death coming, was the MEDICAL STAFF at the Emergency Room of the Hospital. That, is THEIR job. And they, essentially, killed her by witholding services for such an extrodinarily long time. A whole day she sat there, waiting. Disgusting.

People blaming the kids... did they even know she was in the hospital? Did they know she was sick? My grandmother didn't tell us for MONTHS when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. We didn't live with her. Something could have happened. Not everybody has the luxury of seeing their parents frequently. If I knew the kids knew she was sick, or that she was in the hospital, then I'd agree. But I don't know, and clearly the hospital's at fault for letting her lay on the floor for an HOUR.

@EliazaRo15 Not always possible. Especially for those who can't give up working without giving up eating too. It's a nice ideal, but realistically, currently not always possible. When my mother was in hospital (and I stayed the first 24 hours too because they couldn't tear me away, and I had help), I was there when I could be, but I also had to look after my children while my partner worked. Because of flaws in policy, instant daycare is pretty much impossible, and there was no one else to help.

These are for LOW PRIORITY CASES meaning that if someone COLLAPSES in the middle of the waiting room they are no longer a low priority case they become a high priority case and any doctor who is.. say stitching up a small cut on someones leg will stop doing so in order to go and assist.

This is absolutely a case that deserves compensation, but not in that great of an amount. Hospitals have to pay insurance, the more costly claims...the greater the payments and greater costs for the patients.

This woman should never have been left on the floor for any length of time. As soon as she collapsed, a doctor or nurse should have been notified. On the other hand, a family member should have been with the woman if she was that ill. It is clear she was ill, since she passed away, but this was a mentally ill ER. If she was having a mental breakdown, her daughter should have been with her. I know that I would have been with my mother.

Although I guess that here in the UK its different, hospitals are run on tax money. In the US it may be different, sand hospitals may be a moneymaking business, in which case I can forgive them for sueing. If someone sued a NHS hospital here in England, I would see that as sick, as its taking money which would go towards a new cancer treatment etc.

I noticed the security guard look in at her just as she fell, and then later rolling off on an office chair. And then also heard how long the woman had been there without getting any help... That man not only had the chance to make right, it was part of his duty to protect, and he did nothing... I didn't see any footage of him going up to her to check on her or anything. That might've been something.

the woman was only 49 years old! It's not like she was 90 yrs and needed constant care and attention from her adult children. She wasn't even 50! The only people who should have seen such a young preventable death coming, was the MEDICAL STAFF at the Emergency Room of the Hospital. That, is THEIR job. And they, essentially, killed her by witholding services for such an extrodinarily long time. A whole day she sat there, waiting. Disgusting.

People blaming the kids... did they even know she was in the hospital? Did they know she was sick? My grandmother didn't tell us for MONTHS when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. We didn't live with her. Something could have happened. Not everybody has the luxury of seeing their parents frequently. If I knew the kids knew she was sick, or that she was in the hospital, then I'd agree. But I don't know, and clearly the hospital's at fault for letting her lay on the floor for an HOUR.

When my mother was in hospital (and I stayed the first 24 hours too because they couldn't tear me away, and I had help), I was there when I could be, but I also had to look after my children while my partner worked. Because of flaws in policy, instant daycare is pretty much impossible, and there was no one else to help.

@imnotftw ..u know nowadays EVERY hospital lacks personal.. if ppl are working their asses off to help and save others, they can´t be literally EVERYWHERE to save them.. this could easly have happened in the toillet, for example, and u cant expect nurses and doctors to be EVERYWHERE, controlling everything within the hospital.. so, as i see it, they should have stayed with her until they deliver her to the care of a nurse or a doctor, meaning, until her turn arrived!!.. sick indeed.. =/

If it had happened in the toilet where there weren't doctors and nurses and other staff present then that would be understandable but in the waiting room? and you can clearly see a guard sitting there doing nothing. There should be nurses in the waiting room not in the toilet but for this to happen here is the hospitals fault.

There was a security guard who can be seen looking straight at the woman and not summoning help or even displaying a concern for her wellbeing. You don't have to be a nurse or a doctor to call for a nurse or doctors help. ASSHOLE.

@lfsaraivamha what the fuck does the meaning of the word "wait" actually have to do with anything at all? She's in a waiting room in a hospital where you wait until a doctor is available to see you. These are for LOW PRIORITY CASES meaning that if someone COLLAPSES in the middle of the waiting room they are no longer a low priority case they become a high priority case and any doctor who is.. say stitching up a small cut on someones leg will stop doing so in order to go and assist.

If someone is rushed to casualty with a bullet in their lung and they are very likely to die if they don't receive immediate attention doctors will stop what they are doing if it is anything less than saving someones life to save that person. @lfsaraivamha Although we understand that nurses and doctors cannot be EVERYWHERE, it is the sole DUTY of the hospital to take care of it's patients the moment they step foot into the vacinity. And, you know what the REAL problem is? It isn't that there weren't nurses around (maybe a little) but that NO ONE EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED SHE WAS ON THE DAMN FLOOR. There were 2 people in that waiting room, and they didn't even assist her! She, POSSIBLY, could have been saved. It is a sad, sad predicament

I left NYC as soon as I was old enough to go, because of the inhumanity that occurs in situations like this. There are also good people and places there, but you get sick of being confronted with this happening in your own community. Then you hear she was in that waiting room for 24 hrs? At what point do you become so callous as to ignore a person who asks you for help for 24 hrs? In a major hospital?? Everytime I see this video over the years I become equally disgusted as the first.
