@mahpieislicked Quakers can be picky about bath time. If you just got him he may not trust you yet. Mine didn't take bathes until she saw a Pyrex cup with water in it. She dived in to swim but there wasn't enough water so she got a little stuck. She now takes her bath in the sink. Try splashing the water around a little, and DO NOT splash him.

My quaker parrot Lucy HATES BATH TIME!! She'll only do it when she'll see her older sister a Derbyan Parraket Ellie taking one, but we don't get a bucket we simply spray her with a spray bottle of warm water and she'll walk around on her balcony with her wings spread wide open doing as what we call "The Airplan Dance". We then dry her with a hair dryer while sitting her perch and she'lll love it. While Lucy will get scared and fly away so we tap some water on her head

Oh how I miss my quaker :( He would run around on the floor and follow me into the shower. he liked chewing on the bath mat and the handle for the back scrubber. He didnt like the water so much as he just liked to chew on the things in there ( soft plastics or nylon rope)

He'd bath in the dogs water dish more then anywhere else, LOL!! Dog didn't mind, he loved the quaker too :D

Babies require a lot of work, you need to feed them by hand around the clock, every day, for a few months.

Buying an adult, you wont be able to change much of the birds character.

The baby becomes very attached to the owner.

There is also a very high chance of spoiling the baby unless you have enough knowledge about parrots (and trust me you can never have enough)). A spoiled parrot causes a lot of grief for the owner.

So there is your comparison. There are ofcourse other issues as well.

There is a lot of things to keep in mind, it requires a lot of responsibility. But I don't want to discourage you.

So the things I remember are:

-Parrots in their own flocks try to dominate each other by sitting on higher perches than the other parrots. So we can avoid that by not allowing parrots to have resting or sitting places that are higher than your shoulders or anyone who will be handling them. This allows the parrot to know that it cannot "dominate you" hence not listen to you.

-When we have parrots chicks, we say "oh let them do that, they are only babies". As they grow older, they will think they have a right to do that even though we might not like it. An example is letting our baby parrot chew or bite our fingers. I know its harsh to follow these rules but its not easy to not spoil your parrot.

So do not allow your baby bird to do things that you would not want them to do when they grow older.

LOL! Yeah, birds have a funky smell after taking a bath. Pakito kinda smells like sweaty feet.

I don't dry Pakito because he's scared of towels and gloves. During the winter I make sure his water is a tiny bit warm, just so he doesn't feel too cold. He shakes up and I guess that helps him dry up.

During the summer, he likes his water cool.

There are many states that don't allow Quakers because they can be prolific breeders and make huge colonies. A colony of Quakers can be loud as heck and people get angry at the noise and the droppings. It's sad, but true. Some states don't even allow them to be transported through.
