You guys are pretty good, especially seeing you did it the 'hard way'. I'm currently working on a mask and I used the plaster over face too, but then I added clay to the inside of the plaster and then just added expressions to that mask. The easy part was that I could just use my face and add from there. I think I'd lack the skill to make a face out of clay like you guys did. Really good job!
I'm going to the store right now to get some plaster for a negative, and then; papier mache time :)
hey! you didnt show the finished product! I feel cheated. And is the jelly enough to keep the plaster from pulling your eyebrows? I was so worried about that.
@Vspears What you can do to prevent the plaster pulling your eyebrow hairs is to cover them with Vaseline then lay a layer of bathroom tissue (not paper towel) over your eyebrows. Also, for a mask you want to wear, don't use clay, as it'll be heavy. Just paper mache the plaster positive (not the part where you put the bandages on your face but the part where you fill that with plaster and separate) with fine soft paper.
What kind of clay did you guys use? It kind of looks like the Super Firm Sculpey, and if it is, I can understand that you got some cracks; from experience, the extra firm, dark grey sculpey has the tendency to crack, especially when it's that thick while baking. The regular Super Sculpey (flesh colored sculpey) didn't seem to have that problem for me.
But anyhow, this was actually a very helpful tutorial. I'd have to re-watch to see exactly how you shaped the clay to the plaster face though.
@Bobman4671 as long as you coat your face with vaseline prior to actually putting the plaster strips on your face the mask should come off very easily
That actually went pretty cool. But Venetian masks used negatives and papier mache and they just put the paper mache on the negative from awesomeness. But good job anyways.
@cvansetten I think that's heavier than other masks...

Could you list up all the things and liquids you used for making those remarkable masks?

@Vspears
Ok, weird tip, but if you use a non-water based lube (yes, sex lube) , it works even better, and it is much easier cleanup
