The song is awesome, but the video... Its just stupid, sorry, if you want to make an "interpretation" of the song message, dont be so figurative with the lyrics, you put a roof when the lyrics say roof -.-

Wristcutters: A Love Story is the most awesome movie i've ever seen, it always cheers me up & this music is just...... aaawwwwww *good feelings inside* ^^
Have only just been introduced to the film where it appears a lot of people first heard this song. It must be said, a wonderfully understated and considered look at human tragedy and hope. This song just punctuated it perfectly, love it
This is Michael Edward Christensen brother of Madeline Christensen. I used this song in my darkest hour to overcome death when everything told me different. THROUGH THE ROOF-UNDERGROUND.
From what I get from this, the message is if you are different, you have to go away from the mainstream, or take it over. In other words, do something. Anything.
@randomtwinkie94 Wristcutters was indeed a fun movie. The "sad" is the sorry state of commercial radio. I love good music, it just takes a dedicated self-directed search to keep coming across the style you like and want to hear more. At least it does when I'm in the car. (I need to hook up my Sirius again)
@AverageJop25 they are just trying to do something to make things a little less worse, like live in a house, get electricity. they need money to buy things that they enjoy like beer and pizza. we do the same here, "we work jobs we don't like to buy shit we don't need" like beer and pizza.
@Sertrinous one of the main characters was modeled after Eugene (i dont know why) and he and his band made the song and he had it on him when he died that's it.
@Sertrinous YES! I agree but that film was also about a struggle to escape a world where people felt trapped it was about trying to find a way out. Do you remember the Russian guy Eugene in the film Well he quite obviously is Eugene Hutz lead singer Of Gogol Bordello. In fact i havn't got a clue why The real Eugene did'nt play himself because Hutz Is an AMAZING actor. So i disagree with you in a way my friend the song is perfect for the film.
hey how about everyone agree this is an amazing song yes i heard it on wristcutters but the song itself made me love this song just listen and stop chillin underground and go through the roof and just enjoy the song :D lol
@bobby1says1hi I had actually found out about Gogol not that long before I saw the movie Wristcutters. When I realized their music was in the movie I totally geeked out. Great flick, btw. I looked for this song imediately.
UGH! Wrist Cutters does NOT define this song. This is EXACTLY why Eugene denied the part.
If you found Gogol because of Wristcutters, good, but PLEASE stop with your uninformed quotes about how this song has ANTHING to do with the movie. It was made first, it was made better. Plain and simple.
This song has nothing to do with suicide. It obviously has multiple interpretations but I would say that it's about immigration and the struggle of finding yourself in between cultures, countries, etc.
@bloopaexpress underground also means to go undetected. and going through the the roof implies that you are stuck in your current situation and have no way to go except 'through the roof'. its really subjective, each member of Gogol Bordello probably has a different interpretation of this song.
@VerdwaaldOdyssey yeah, it's a bit like Offspring's "You're gonna go far, kid", everyone can take their meaning, and they'r all right. 2 effing good songs.
Not trying to sound like a know it all, I promise. But this song is not about suicide, but rather, like most of Eugene's songs, about the difficulties he has suffered as a "cultural refugee" He has a lot of hate and emotion in regards to boarder control etc after his travels from the Ukraine to America when he was 17
This song is NOT about individual suicide, y'all aren't paying attention.
It's about the decline of indigenous cultures under the homogenizing force of globalization and corporate-driven consumerism (mostly emanating from the worst corners of the United States but it is by no means the only culprit in this atrocity). "the world's the same as it ever was, there's just less in it" as a pirate once said. You want color in your life, you have to go "through the roof " and "underground" to find it.
@demolitionlover6732 where you watching it whithout your ears? the song's played 3 or more times, in the movie, one of them they sing along (considered by some the best part of the movie), and you didn't notice?!
@TatankaIXc Awwh come on man. He took the time out of his life to bring us a good song, and he put something with it that does it some justice. @thegradualreport I simply wonder how this happened. True gorgol transcends genetic laws and may have the power to transmute non bi-pedal sea creatures, but my assumption is that it would be more likely to happen during the course of listening to Start Wearing Purple. Your thoughts....

Actually, after about a million listens, and thinking about why this particular song was chose for a certain movie, I think it's about suicide.
The whole song basically says if you're totally effed and there's just no hope, you've gotta escape.
And through the roof and underground?
Through the roof alludes to a floating up to heaven kind of thing, and underground, well, duh, ya know...

@thegradualreport I simply wonder how this happened. True gorgol transcends genetic laws and may have the power to transmute non bi-pedal sea creatures, but my assumption is that it would be more likely to happen during the course of listening to Start Wearing Purple. Your thoughts....

When there is trap set up for you,
In every corner of this town,
And so you learn the only way to go is underground.
When there is a trap set up for you,
In every corner of your room,
...And so you learn the only way to go is through the roof.
Ooohooooh, through the roof, underground.
Ooohooooh, through the roof, underground.
I FEEL IT SO HARD!
