I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
I think the 912 has more, but you can swap engines. I'm no expert, but i think the 356 would be lighter. An earlier comment says specs of the engine in this one.
Start with a Porsche 912 motor due to crankcase and head improvements.
Stock cylinders are bored to 1620 cc (rules restricted). Internals are balanced and blueprinted.
It is race prepared with Scat crankshaft, high-lift cam and heavily modified heads to prevent cracking at the valve seats. Stock valves with heavy springs and titanium retainers.
High compression pistons run on 110 octane race fuel. Race prepared Solex carbs and distrib.
145 HP @ flywheel. Pulls from 4000 to 7000 redline
I think the guy at the wheel passed out or fell asleep...Whoa! I just woke up and fell of my chair. Did you actually post the numbers? Thank you. I can't tell you how many of these rear wheel dyno runs I've sat thur and never see any numbers. BTW, if that's rear wheel, that's very good. for a 912 based engine. Enjoy, see you at the RennSport thing, whenever that is.
That is definitely Aetna Blue. I have one just like it in the original color. The old color charts that you see online are not accurate. I always thought that Aetna blue with the red interior was a nice combo. Mine has the light grey, which was the only other option.
It is not a Porsche color and I don't know where it came from since I bought the car already painted. The closest Porsche colors I could find is called Aetna Blue and Adria Blue. But they're not that close.
No - not Aetna - it's a custom mixed color.
Aetna is probably the closest you can get.
Absolutely stunning in person and there is only one other 356 painted this color.

What's better, a 356 engine or a 912?
loveanianimeme 2 years ago
Personal choice. I'd go 356, IMO it's better looking.

They both have the same HP and what not?

I'm not planning on swapping engines´, Well kind of... I'm planning on putting a very much non stalk engine it in to a vw bug

Check for clearence is all I'd say. I've not seen a flat 6 in a bug w/o cutting. If you go that route, Measure twice... Goodluck!
aworange91 2 years ago
depends on which one you own. I think the 356 is better.

I thought engine breakin was done by loaded variable revs under 75% of redline... it sounds like your just flogging the car on a dyno?
