I thought the Koran was written about 20 years after the prophets death bcos there were so many different stories being told of his life.He himself never wrote the book.

@GARYWERSLEY The Quran was written during the time of Muhammad (Pbuh) but it was scattered on different sheets of paper & bone & papyrus & palm fiber paper. There was no necessity for a hard cover book since everyone memorized it. (Also there was some Companions of the Prophet whose job was to memorize & preserve) The Prophet died, some companions died in battle, so Abu Bakr (RA) ordered a rigorous compilation and test of memorization, thus we have a book. @GARYWERSLEY About the divine origin, its based upon its miraculous nature of containing obviously prophesies, its method of revelation as in the reason for the revelation, the precision of the wording, the highest level of language coming form an unlettered man (Prophet (pbuh)) and the inimitability of its style and content. @julio14335 I know Jesus to be the divine incarnate of God. However, even if he was only inspired by God Jesus says he will build HIS church upon the teachings of Peter and the disciples. To say that Jesus is not God is a contradiction to His teaching. I don't believe liars make good teachers or prophets. So the case is that Jesus was either a liar, lunatic, or lord. If the apostles were wrong why would Jesus choose them so carefully? Its more likely that 600 years later a lie was written.
@julio14335 In the passage you mention Jesus is speaking about his divine nature. In order to become human God incarnate had to assume limitations such as being bound by time and natural laws (which he suspended at times) in order to be understood by man. Jesus also spoke in parables and evaded religious figures who were corrupted and would have him executed for claiming he was God.

It's sad that some Christians have misunderstood Jesus' message. He was one of the greatest Messengers of God. The old testament is crudely mis translated and is not translatable into english from hebrew which is God's language which spoke all things into existance.
I greatly respect Licona. But Licona is used to arguing with atheist scholars who take a pair of scissors to parts of the New Testament based on assumptions. So he is used to having to defend that Jesus is God by less obvious sayings than those in John's Gospel. Since Shabir seems to accept John, Licona should have gone right to John because you can prove that Jesus thought of himself as God very easily with many verses there (John 14:9; 8:58) being very poignant examples, though there are many.

There was no necessity for a hard cover book since everyone memorized it. (Also there was some Companions of the Prophet whose job was to memorize & preserve) The Prophet died, some companions died in battle, so Abu Bakr (RA) ordered a rigorous compilation and test of memorization, thus we have a book. @julio14335 I know Jesus to be the divine incarnate of God. However, even if he was only inspired by God Jesus says he will build HIS church upon the teachings of Peter and the disciples. To say that Jesus is not God is a contradiction to His teaching. I don't believe liars make good teachers or prophets. So the case is that Jesus was either a liar, lunatic, or lord. If the apostles were wrong why would Jesus choose them so carefully? Its more likely that 600 years later a lie was written.

In order to become human God incarnate had to assume limitations such as being bound by time and natural laws (which he suspended at times) in order to be understood by man. Jesus also spoke in parables and evaded religious figures who were corrupted and would have him executed for claiming he was God.

@GARYWERSLEY in court , eyewittness accounts are held as reliable . there are so many eyewitness accounts about jesus its hard to refute and most liberal historian scholars say matthew written 70 ad , mark 80 luke and john 90, thats a liberal view , its probably much earlier , but this is still in the lifetime of the eyewitnesses , if they where trying to lie the jewish leaders at time would have proven it a lie and it would not be what it is today.

i think Shabir does not understand (no offence)that human logic and divine logic are really different when he speaks about trinity. you cant say that something divine is not logic, the suprnatural laws of god surpasses human laws. that is why in the name of Jesus us children of god can let suprnatural things happen. I greatly respect Licona. But Licona is used to arguing with atheist scholars who take a pair of scissors to parts of the New Testament based on assumptions. So he is used to having to defend that Jesus is God by less obvious sayings than those in John's Gospel. Since Shabir seems to accept John, Licona should have gone right to John because you can prove that Jesus thought of himself as God very easily with many verses there (John 14:9; 8:58) being very poignant examples, though there are many.

Shabir Ally says that defining Jesus as man and God is impossible because you can't have a person be limited (man) and unlimited (divinity) at the same time.
Couldn't Jesus as God willingly forgo his divinity in order to die on the cross for us? Wouldn't this be no different than us giving up food during fasting?
To say that Jesus could not exist as both man and God is a human perspective. How could we ever possibly understand, let alone define, the infinite love, wisdom, and power of God?
