@eustace676 When the car was finished, it was a monster. 690kg, 235hp atw from an HRF 1.4ltr engine with TD05-18G. Stripped and scrapped now though, it'd run its course and I wanted something more fun.

what you're hearing is damage to the compressor wheel because you're blow off valve or compressor bypass valve is either not working or not installed. good job.

It has neither been proved or disproved Jake that air passing back through the turbo shortens its life. The recirc valve was removed from the car due it not really needing it...small turbo and low boost, I loved the sound.

If you've exhaustively tested the effects of air passing back through various turbo's please comment, otherwise don't bother as it's merely your own limited opinion.

either you have a vacume hose off at BOV or your bov is jammed or seized up take it out pull piston out of it and oil it up to make it run smooth , or your bov is set too hard .

simple, remove the air con (to create a gap next to the rad for a filter to sit in) fit a 90deg silicone hose from the turbo coming out the gap as above...fit a filter, job done.

that's the stock CT9. The car now runs a HRF V300 TD05 though.

Like you said, its not that bad for the turbo as long as your not running high boost. Along with it sounding good, it will also give you faster gear changes too.

It's not bad for the turbo mate, that's a common myth. Unless you're running massive boost the only side effect is increased turbo lag as the blades have to spin to counter the negative spin produced from the air hitting the blades.
