Johnny may not be THE best guitar player in the world, but he's on the Christmas card list of the best! Rolling Stone magazine doesn't have the balls to include him in their top 100 greatest guitar players yet they include Willie Nelson and John Lennon and Joan Baez? Willie IS pretty good, but even he'll admit, not in the class of Johnny. I believe Hiland can play circles around at least 80 of the top 100 they have listed. The other 20 are good enough to be there.

Some people only run their mouths on here to get people to come over and watch the crappy videos. i took a masters lesson from Johnny Hiland a few years ago and he plays over 20 instruments better on his worse day than anything you will ever do on you best MrLongtimegone!! Hey Just to make sure what I said is true I listened to this again and I am right this is old stuff over and over I was playing this and lots better style of guitar years and years ago. As for where I been I wish you could see my scrap book of the names I have played with and I bet I have made 20--30 times more money than you have.Trust me if you want to play this stay with it for a year or two and it will come. It is not that hard unless maybe like a dumb ass like you just ain't got it

It just shows you don't need to have a good guitar "set up" professionally before you can play it. These guys just take them down off the rack, tune them and then "this" comes out. Amazing! Funny thing, my guitar doesn't sound like this!

Thing is, they are both great guitarists and from the look on their faces, having a total blast jamming together. You can tell they respect each others abilities and it's not a competition between them there, just fun. I think if it came down to a competition, Johnny is more versatile overall, but I haven't heard Luca play true rock or blues yet either. Johnny can play the fire out of both styles.

Well, someone excoriated me for favorably comparing Johnny to Danny Gatton. I have watched a load of Danny Gatton videos since then and I stand by what I said. Johnny Hiland is the most versatile player I've seen in a long time. His licks are as fast and clean as Danny's. I don't take anything away from Gatton. Johnny is great, too.

Doug seven is good. But no johnny. johnny is the most humble guy youd ever meet while at the same time his playing is monstrous! Just check out his versions of orange blossom or any of his improvs to be truely terrified.
