I don't think US troops are the focus of violence. It's the Iraqis themselves. I think we can eventually accomplish our goals if we keep plugging away the way we are now. However, I think this would be sped up quite a bit by smashing the living daylights out of the Sunni Triangle area of Iraq since that's from where most of the trouble comes. Not so good for a recent UN tally of Iraqi dead is far less as well as the count from Iraq Body Count (an anti-war website and other estimates. Thus the Hopkins study is out on its own, and that's a BIG red flag.
Please supply references for other studies so I can read the methodology and ascertain for myself whether it is sound.

Even if methodology is done correctly as the study claims, there is something called Ken's Law in research which basically says you can get any result at least once. Being able to reproduce a result is the key of science. So far no one has reproduced this yet.
Part I: One thing that is important to realize when analyzing a study is how it measures up to others done. If a study is out by itself, then that's a BIG RED FLAG. The Hopkins study exceeds every close to reputable count of Iraqi deaths such as a recent UN figure and the anti-war group IBC's figure. Unfortionately, this doesn't match very well with the next words, "full throttle" because in order to be in flight, a boeing 747 has to be going AT LEAST 250 mph. Kinda close to what you described as full throttle isn't it? Its average flying speed is 600mph, which isn't even full throttle. It looks to me like US troops are a focus of violence there. Ex: If Israeli troops ever prevented the rape of a Muslim woman in Gaza, people would still be throwing rocks at them just b/c of their uniform, not their intentions. Please explain how we 'win'. I don't think US troops are the focus of violence. It's the Iraqis themselves. I think we can eventually accomplish our goals if we keep plugging away the way we are now. However, I think this would be sped up quite a bit by smashing the living daylights out of the Sunni Triangle area of Iraq since that's from where most of the trouble comes. (It's not a surprise given that the Sunnis were the ones who benefited most from Saddam's government.)

Part I: One important thing in research is to measure results of a study against others that measure the same thing. So how does this study stack up to other counts? Not so good for a recent UN tally of Iraqi dead is far less as well as the count from Iraq Body Count (an anti-war website and other estimates. Thus the Hopkins study is out on its own, and that's a BIG red flag.

Part II: Given what the Lancet did that last time before a major US election (publishing an outrageously high casualty figure), that is more than enough to call it into question. Even if methodology is done correctly as the study claims, there is something called Ken's Law in research which basically says you can get any result at least once. Being able to reproduce a result is the key of science. So far no one has reproduced this yet.

The Hopkins study exceeds every close to reputable count of Iraqi deaths such as a recent UN figure and the anti-war group IBC's figure. So much error, so little time! First, there's no evidence intel was maniupulated (check out 2002 NIE on Iraq). Second, there was no true torture. Third, Plame's name was leaked by an anti-Iraq War critic named Armitage. (Nope, it wasn't Rove or Cheney in a plot.) Third, Haliburton was awarded contracts because they do that kind of work. Fourth, the White House gave practically a blank check to the Katrina effort.
