  • had the pleasure of working with Mintzer in the studio on one occasion as a lad- Tough arrangement I did of an old standard with tons of bizarre extensions already on tape, and he nailed 2 perfect solos in 2 takes, even humoring my over eager green-ness. Total real deal genius pro. -But---forgive me--Russo will always be the perfect fit for the 'jackets in my book. "At their Best?" I begrudgingly agree

  • @megafunk88 OK, just trying to describe such a footage as very or more than that, advisible to enjoy I use an encouraging term which may be discussable for everyone who has other opinions. Anyway, I always have thought this is quite a real gem.

  • O_O

  • 4:01 - 4:05.

  • Someone really sould have had a word with Jimmy about those shorts

  • @funkyleo1973 There has been once a concert on this festival they arrived that late and absolute direct from the Airport, the could'nt change their outfits anymore, no joke, a true anecdote, so that must have been this one i guess ;-)

  • @Geepereet Still he did put those shorts on that day...

  • @funkyleo1973 - In fact there suitcases didn't arrive (or were stolen) that's why they had to come out like this. And by the way it was one of the best shows I ever saw of them !!

  • @SpotOnMusic1 I've had that very thing happen to me. Had one show playing with a band in Sweden. The luggage was left in England so we had to play in the clothes we arrived in and borrow equipment from the other band on the bill.

  • @funkyleo1973 LOL, did you play well that night?

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmmmmm!

  • Yellowjackets & The Rippingtons: Best two jazz groups of all time!!

Steely Dan is my all time FAVORITE ... but I consider SD more "Rock/Jazz" then streaight "Jazz," thus the shortlist above.

Sandborn would be a fave in the solo-artist cat.

  • @voicetube What about Spyro Gyra? They are more on the funky-fusion style, but they have their Jazz too!

And yes i agree Yellowjackets & The Rippingtons are absolutel great!

  • @Gabas80 Yes, SG was amazing as well.. but I'm partial to the above mentioned groups I guess.... Oh, only second to (ok... on par with) those is a group called Wishfull Thinking (!!) Holy moly.. ever hear their song "Think Again" -- or a bunch of their other work? AMAZING!

  • what a lick at 4:00 !!!!

  • @jazz4gsus marc russo? yes please!

  • Marc russo great sax player..!!!! I love yellow jackets in this format...!!!

  • Marc was one of the few players who connected with both the music and the audience. Not many sax players did that, sure Coltrane and Desmond etc but today and even 20 years ago Marc had a gift. The stuff with Loggins and Ritchie was awesome. Today the Chris Potters and Redmonds don't come close regardless of the technical no how. Don't get me wrong..Love Potter but I don't hang on every note like I did Russo's. Too bad he gave up, must have had a reason I am sure at least Parker ab excuse

  • I guess you haven't seen Richard Elliot..

  • Hej Niels! How nice of you to drop by. Great, isn't it? So much better than Mintzer ...

  • @steenrna You are insane if you can even second people to Mintzer. There is a point where world-class becomes world-class. Learn something.

  • @BKrieg8 But Bob mintzer can't play the saxophone in this style very well. Marc russo has this style in the pocket. Bob mintzer sounds lame playing this track on more modern version. Need that real pop tone to play this. oh and the language

  • This is great. Was this from North Sea jazz 1988?

  • q buenos agudos :D

  • Great tune. Thanx for posting. Is there a DVD of this?
