I loved this song. Even though it's from '82, it looks and sounds so seventies! She sings, "..and showed what I've got." Pity, because she's as flat-chested as two peanuts on an ironingboard.
I saw her tonight in Boston. I love her! She is the sweetest and very down to earth. I almost cried when I saw her because I always listen to her song as a kid. She made my day!
Charlene's voice reminds me of the late Minnie Riperton. This song didn't get the airtime it deserved, but it still had quite a following because of her unique timing with the phrasing. The song is unfairly made fun of now as epitomizing the me era of the 80's and that's very undeserved. She has a lovely voice and it was beautifully done.
MickyValo, this song is about consequences. About choosing your life's paths carefully, because you will have to live with the outcome (good or bad) evenutually.
i think males who loves this song are gays..believe me when i hear this song i was almost going to faint coz of its very mellow mood..do u like this song?/
hi, I would agree that most females would tend to love this song. I am a woman and most of my female friend's love it. My male friend's think of this as a "female song". I have been trying to get this song and finally did when I came to youtube :)
Love comes from within, and all the worldy goods simply cannot replace a baby. Women with a very strong maternal instinct know exactly the meaning of this beautiful song. :)
If I had it my way, I would adopt and have a dozen children beautify my home. My husband, however, tells me that he doesn't have the patience to bring up so many children. Again, only a woman with a strong maternal instinct would understand me. Have a GREAT Day! :)
Oh, THANK YOU so much, DancingFalcons. :) And let me also point out that the high legal fees associated with adoption do not help either. My neighbor who has two children was thinking of adopting a child several years ago. Once she had found out that it would cost 20 thousand dollars, her husband had changed his mind. This goes to show you that "the system" goes against couples who would like to adopt children.
It seems that it's never an ideal situation unless a person can come up with tons of money. My husband's brother and his wife used to take in foster children, some of whom were abused by their own parents. It was heartbreaking to hear of this one little seven-year-old boy who would wake up and run to the kitchen to get a knife for protection. At times, it didn't click to him that he was already in a safe environment.
I really hate it if someone sings a song that he/she bought from other people who wrote it.WRITE YOUR OWN SONG!!! The lyrics of this song are..weird, but I still love it(if I try not to take too much care about what she sings), simply coz of the melody.
PEOPLE SHOULD RIGHT LESS SONGS, and leave it up to great song interpreters to sing. ELVIS, SINATRA, LINDA RONSTADT, ARETHA FRANKLIN, JAZZ ARTIST OF THE 30'S 40'S, MEL TORME, MADONNA, WHITNEY HOUSTON, CELINE DION, JUDY GARLAND, BARBRA STREISAND all write very little of their songs if not at all.
Plus how do we know what is written by who, som many artist have ghost writers writing their songs.
WE NEED GREAT INTERPRETERS TO SING NOT WRITE SONGS YOU DIPSTICK.
Well, if you haven't got enough talent and fantasy to write a message of your own, you should at least have a REALLY great voice. What did you mean with 'people should right less songs'? And don't dare calling me 'dipstick', old man.

Side note: I don't know if anyone here has seen Howard Keel's version. It sounds like a joke, but he really did it quite well.

If you adopt stateside it's not nearly as bad, but then the kids have been abused by the American system and harder to deprogram. :(

There was.
"Hey, you know what paradise is?
It's a lie -- a fantasy we create about people and places
As we'd like them to be.
But you know what truth is?
It's that little baby you're holding
And it's that man you fought with this morning
The same one you're going to make love to tonight
That's truth -- that's love!"
