Charlene's voice reminds me of the late Minnie Riperton. This song didn't get the airtime it deserved, but it still had quite a following because of her unique timing with the phrasing. The song is unfairly made fun of now as epitomizing the me era of the 80's and that's very undeserved. She has a lovely voice and it was beautifully done.

Oh, THANK YOU so much, DancingFalcons. :) And let me also point out that the high legal fees associated with adoption do not help either. My neighbor who has two children was thinking of adopting a child several years ago. Once she had found out that it would cost 20 thousand dollars, her husband had changed his mind. This goes to show you that "the system" goes against couples who would like to adopt children.

If you adopt stateside it's not nearly as bad, but then the kids have been abused by the American system and harder to deprogram. :(

It seems that it's never an ideal situation unless a person can come up with tons of money. My husband's brother and his wife used to take in foster children, some of whom were abused by their own parents. It was heartbreaking to hear of this one little seven-year-old boy who would wake up and run to the kitchen to get a knife for protection. At times, it didn't click to him that he was already in a safe environment.
