  • written by a bloke.....

  • no paradise is not a lie.. there is a paradise in the life after this. it's the promise of our creator for His people.

  • This song is perfect for my sister lol.

  • ..and by the way it's the best song ever.

  • what a nice soft voice... song that feel like a real lady..

  • classic! this song will live forever!

  • I loved this song. Even though it's from '82, it looks and sounds so seventies! She sings, "..and showed what I've got." Pity, because she's as flat-chested as two peanuts on an ironingboard.

  • The song is actually seventies.1976 to be precise,so you are right. It made no.1 in 1982 when it was re-released.

  • I saw her tonight in Boston. I love her! She is the sweetest and very down to earth. I almost cried when I saw her because I always listen to her song as a kid. She made my day!

  • taiwanese

    好聽喔^^

  • "I've spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free"

    Deep. Very deep.... lol

  • very nice song song, one of my fave songs...

  • "i've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see" i wonder what that is?

  • Funny lyrics. I"ve been undressed by kings..subtle whoring...really the first self help song.

  • Charlene's voice reminds me of the late Minnie Riperton. This song didn't get the airtime it deserved, but it still had quite a following because of her unique timing with the phrasing. The song is unfairly made fun of now as epitomizing the me era of the 80's and that's very undeserved. She has a lovely voice and it was beautifully done.

  • I agree this song didn't get the air time it should have :)

  • I have been trying to get this song FOREVER She has an angelic voice. thnx so much :)

  • im 37 yeah im gay and i finaily go a life

  • hey IM gay... LOVE IT!

  • can sum1 tell me what this song is about?

  • MickyValo, this song is about consequences. About choosing your life's paths carefully, because you will have to live with the outcome (good or bad) evenutually.

  • This song is proof that no-one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence and taste of the public.

  • hey..are all lovers of this song are females???..plz reply

  • Nope...guys enjoy it too. Course, the reasons may be different.

Side note: I don't know if anyone here has seen Howard Keel's version. It sounds like a joke, but he really did it quite well.

  • i think males who loves this song are gays..believe me when i hear this song i was almost going to faint coz of its very mellow mood..do u like this song?/

  • hi, I would agree that most females would tend to love this song. I am a woman and most of my female friend's love it. My male friend's think of this as a "female song". I have been trying to get this song and finally did when I came to youtube :)

  • huh??..i would like to clarify myself,i think this song is boring...is there any males who find this song beautiful??

  • Why are you watching this video and listenning to this song??

  • it happened to be an accident and i did not mean to listen to this boring song...i though that this was the song that i was finding..XD

  • i thought that this was the song i was finding..it happened to be an accident..XD

  • fuck

  • Happy Holiday's to you to :)

  • same to you..jehehehe

  • great song... beats the hell otta that jiggaboo rap crap...

  • what does this song mean??

is it OK to sing it at a wedding???

  • no good for wedding dear..

  • One of my favorite Songs. Sais it all

  • Love comes from within, and all the worldy goods simply cannot replace a baby. Women with a very strong maternal instinct know exactly the meaning of this beautiful song. :)

  • Amen sister, I couldn't have said it better!

  • :) A Very Happy November of 2007 to You and All the Deserving People! :)

  • ...and the greatest gift that a woman can give is to adopt and love a baby/child as if he/she were her own. :) Happy NEW YEAR to ALL! :)

  • ;) I agree. Have you adopted?

  • If I had it my way, I would adopt and have a dozen children beautify my home. My husband, however, tells me that he doesn't have the patience to bring up so many children. Again, only a woman with a strong maternal instinct would understand me. Have a GREAT Day! :)

  • I'll pray that his heart warms up to your desire! Have a fantastic day back!

  • Oh, THANK YOU so much, DancingFalcons. :) And let me also point out that the high legal fees associated with adoption do not help either. My neighbor who has two children was thinking of adopting a child several years ago. Once she had found out that it would cost 20 thousand dollars, her husband had changed his mind. This goes to show you that "the system" goes against couples who would like to adopt children.

  • If you adopt stateside it's not nearly as bad, but then the kids have been abused by the American system and harder to deprogram. :(

  • It seems that it's never an ideal situation unless a person can come up with tons of money. My husband's brother and his wife used to take in foster children, some of whom were abused by their own parents. It was heartbreaking to hear of this one little seven-year-old boy who would wake up and run to the kitchen to get a knife for protection. At times, it didn't click to him that he was already in a safe environment.

  • Cheesiest. Song. Ever.

  • "She doesn't like the balloons"! LOL!!

  • e, dai cao thu la nguoi vietnam ha?

  • Mình là người Kinh. Còn bạn :P

  • Me and this song go way back!!!!

  • I really hate it if someone sings a song that he/she bought from other people who wrote it.WRITE YOUR OWN SONG!!! The lyrics of this song are..weird, but I still love it(if I try not to take too much care about what she sings), simply coz of the melody.

  • PEOPLE SHOULD RIGHT LESS SONGS, and leave it up to great song interpreters to sing. ELVIS, SINATRA, LINDA RONSTADT, ARETHA FRANKLIN, JAZZ ARTIST OF THE 30'S 40'S, MEL TORME, MADONNA, WHITNEY HOUSTON, CELINE DION, JUDY GARLAND, BARBRA STREISAND all write very little of their songs if not at all.

Plus how do we know what is written by who, som many artist have ghost writers writing their songs.

WE NEED GREAT INTERPRETERS TO SING NOT WRITE SONGS YOU DIPSTICK.

  • Well, if you haven't got enough talent and fantasy to write a message of your own, you should at least have a REALLY great voice. What did you mean with 'people should right less songs'? And don't dare calling me 'dipstick', old man.

  • takes me back to my babysitting days when 16 .now i would need a crb .

  • ...i like the balloons

  • the top of the pops sign in neon looks like the cocktail sign from the tom cruise film cocktail

  • i love this song very much!!!

  • A fab tune! I seem to remember a spoken section on the record that isn't in this performance.

  • There was.

"Hey, you know what paradise is?

It's a lie -- a fantasy we create about people and places

As we'd like them to be.

But you know what truth is?

It's that little baby you're holding

And it's that man you fought with this morning

The same one you're going to make love to tonight

    That's truth -- that's love!"

  • Thanks for that. Obliged.

  • LOL!

  • @jennytork

yes...missed this lyrics ...but she sings so right:

I had to be free...i took the sweet life...but i never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet

and:I've been to paradise but i never been to me***

    ...great song...

  • i like this song...

  • bravo!!!thank for the beautiful song!!

  • oh'awesome slow ballad from charlene.

  • Shrek the Thrid has a witch singing this song in a bar.

  • i really like this i swear! i love this song

  • I like this song :)

  • A beautiful song sung by a beautiful lady

  • The spring of 1982 featured a comeback by Chicago, hits by Olivia, a comeback by John Denver, the Steve Miller band and this hit.
