Jimmie Vaughan Rules ??? If it wasnt for Stevie Ray, This overrated, arrogant, finger tied guitar player would still be playing small clubs in Texas for a piece of the door.
A FUCK-ALL nobody is exactly what he'd be if it wasnt for Stevie.
@critic480 Yeh... now go and listen to the "great blues" of Stevie Ray: the classic example of how not to play the blues and, infact, you're the classic example of someone who doesn't care a fuck about what is the blues.
@critic480 a chimpanzee has got more speech ability than you. Now go and listen to your "voodoo chile, yeh I'm a voodoo chile!" Quite exciting this goddamn thing called the blues, innit?!
I've never understood the Jimmy Vaughn attraction. He DOES play good, but so do millions of others. I find him boring, with a lack of exictement in his playng. I'd be willing to bet if it wasn't for his little brother, nobody outside of Texas would know who he is today. But the Thurnderbirds were a great band and he fit in good within that enviroment.
Don't anybody get me wrong...he's good, just not 'great'. And doesn't deserve the recognition as a guitarist he gets. imho
and I do not understand how people can not see, feel why JLV is such a totally unique player. He is one of the very few bluesstringer I never get bored with. Right, he doesn't go for speed and circus playing, it's much more subtle than that. timing, feel, phrasing. btw I knew of JLV before I heard of SRV (and I'm from Belgium .... :)
@barnoguttlin *feel why JLV is such a totally unique player*
For me, there's no sucha thing as 'blues has to be done this way'. SRV got a lot of heat when he first came out for his rock style of blues, now he's a blues god! JLV doesn't play with speed 'cause he can't. Speed alone is not good, but coupled with feel, good sense of timeing, some killer tone and great phrasing, it can't be beat.
B.B. King is not fast, but his phrasing is second to none. JLV is simply NOT in that category
well, it's a matter of taste I guess. I think speed is widely used out of fear and lack of decent timing skills. and ofcourse JLV can play fast. Even Miles Davis could play fast.
@barnoguttlin *I think speed is widely used out of fear and lack of decent timing skills.*
I guess then you've never heard Joe Pass play guitar. Speed, timing, feel etc. Joe had it all. Could improv over 100 chord changes with ingenious melodies made up as he played! ..speed is an essential skill ....for those who know how to use it.
Johnny Winter back in the day had incredible timing & speed. I don't know how anyone could have great speed with shitty timing. Too each his own I guess.
@LordSauceness guess he should give his silly old GRAMMYS back for the blues then huh dipshit...srv said 'jimmie plays 1/10 of what he knows'..check his older stuff for speed any wank can riddle the scales..please, stop posting you're dumbing down the boards
@Pre00 *guess he should give his silly old GRAMMYS back for the blues then huh dipshit.*
Grammy awards? Ya mean the ones he got for working with his little brother? How good would he do on his own? Brittany Spears won a grammy as well.. your point is??
Johnny Winter has 3 grammy's under his belt.
*any wank can riddle the scales*
Who the FUCK, said anything about scale wanking? Find somebody that could match Johnny Winter for speed, timing, phrasng etc
@Pre00 *srv said 'jimmie plays 1/10 of what he knows'..*
What would you expect from a little brother? SRV wouldn't even acknowledge that he took guitar lessons from Johnny Winter & would never give Johnny any credit for his influence. I love SRV, I think Jimmy is an ok guitar player, thought the Fabulous Tbirds were a great band, & everyone can fuck off.
Jimmy Vaughn would be a FUCK-ALL nobody if it wasn't for SRV, simple as that.
@Pre00 *you're an idiot and obviously not a guitar player..more like xbox generation..dumbass*
Huh..is zat so? Well, unlike YOU, I did check out your channel, & low & behold, not one fucking vid of your great guitar playing. Yep, you know what yer talking about...lmao.
Besides, it's all a matter of OPINION & Jimmy Vaughn would be a virtually unknown if it wasn't for his little brother...
Like I said., Jimmie Vaughan is the "Most Real" bluesman on the planet. Ain't a false bone in the man's body. For that reason alone he deserves the greatest recognition in the bidniz. Peace to you Mr. Vaughan.
JLV = THE MAN when it comes to soulful blues or blues with a feeling, playing the right notes & leaving some air between the notes, the less is more approach. Full Time Lover & Dengue Woman Blues are to my opinion Mr. Vaughan's best slow burners...
Love Jimmie's Blues playing, but I wish the live performance of "Powerful Stuff" hadn't been pulled from YouTube. That was a truely rockabilly masterpiece. The band was great, Jimmie was devine. One of his greatest performances on the rock side of blues/rockabilly in my opinion. Really wish I had gotten the address of the person that had it posted before YouTube pulled the plug. This my love/hate relationship continues. Arg.
And I would agree to that. Placing the right note into the right place is the name of the game. BB KIng is another example of such philosophy. Also Anson (Funderburgh). King of Cool? You'd bet he is. May he play like that for years to come.
@talikko73 Might be something by B.B that is on the same level but like you nothing readily comes to mind..Live "Gamblers Blues"?? I just know this song is about a sweet treat as the ears can ever handle.
This man is and always will be the king of cool. I see to many people who just play like its a competition. Jimmie never has ever played to prove anything to anyone, and thats what cool is all about. You never try to out do people. many players of today in my opiniion try to be cool by proving their the best. In blues thats not what makes you good. It's leaving room to come back and play some more. Jimmie vaughan is awesome and always will be in my book!
@bjbmusic Well said, too many listeners listen as if it were a competition as well. Blues like any other art form is expression on a theme. Weather its the fault of the record label or the sheer overload of testosterone taking your time to play with joy is always appreciated. Jimmy Lee is huge in my book and many of my other heroes as well. Mainly because he is Genuine on and off stage. Peace
5 notes played with feeling and dynamics beat a scale shredfest every time...jimmie is the master of this ...wanks like mayer and lang need to go back and learn from his earlier stuff
This is a prime example of blues guitar mastery! Looks like other blues players would learn to let go of the neck every once in a while. What you leave out is often what makes it a killer solo versus a wankfest. VERY few can leave space like JLV. That smile on his face just as Kim starts back on the vocal says it all!
Nearly nobody's got the timing Jimmie has on his phrasing. Greatest tone ever since T-Bone Walker too... one of the greatest.

Well... in my book Johnny Winter is the all times best blues guitar player, but i love Jimmie and Stevie too.
If i had to choose, i would say Jimmie. Not because his better, but because I happen to like his playing style more.

You're an idiot. Ask Jimmie, or if you could ask Stevie, who is and isn't a real musician.
Shame on you. Who do you think inspired Stevie the most...?

Like the Masters before him he has learned the value in leaving em wanting more instead of wondering when its going to be over.
