How can we as a society think that it is OK to treat such young animals with no mercy. They have no protection at all. They are born innocently here, harming no one - yet look what we do to them. We are a fucking disgrace is all I can say, and I am fed up with all of the shittiness in this world that is a direct result of our fucked up species. We ought to be ashamed.
I am interested in changing this world entirely. If you are too then search for Equal Money and Desteni in google. Thanks.
The lead up to the stunning chute needs to be well lit...no wonder why the calves won't go. I was the same age as that little tyke when I went in the plant with my dad. I watched him kill beef everyday
I'd like to find who that farmer is & shove that prod fair and square right up his arse .As far as that poor kid goes.....he's gonna be a real arsehole like his dad too.
Do u all drink milk? Eat cheese and other milk products? Do you know that milk is produced by pregnant cows, when they give birth some calves go for meat (mostly bull calves) some become dairy cows. It is not possible to raise so many calves, it is expensive and when they grow up they will still be eaten. I don´t like em being killed either but can´t live without food.
@niltsirk Can't live without food? Haven't you heard of other options. You don't need meat in your diet. It is a myth that man needs meat to survive. Next time you enjoy that leg of pork, spare a though for the suffering of the animal infront of you OK?
3:40 - they're only babies. How can humans be so cruel, uncaring and inhumane? I reckon if all of the meat eaters had to witness how an abattoir works first hand, a huge percentage of them would stop eating meat. No wonder the meat industry doesn't advertise this side of things.
I hate vegetables but I've become a vegetarian because I can't stand to be a part of this. I lived in ignorance for many years. I knew the truth but seeing it has made it so real. That's enough.
i dont like the slaughtering of calves but if u know that is is 90% of the calves are male the farmers cannot have so many bull calves on there place and what use are they but meat veal to be exact i don teat veal but i dont stop any one eles eating it
I'm recently a vegan due working at a dairy farm and seeing what dairy cattle have to go through, much worse than the beef industry. The cows have to live through 4 painful years of being constantly pregnant, suffer with diseases and lameness from living mostly on concrete then when they can give no more they're slaughtered. The calves on here are male and no good for the dairy trade. Even if you eat dairy small differences like trying the odd soya yoghurt makes a difference, every little helps.
I'm a former NZ freezing worker and worked on the slaughter board, this footage disgusted me. That's no way to treat animals, they should be treated with respect right to the moment they go under the stunner. They way those workers were treating the calves was SHIT, I would love to grab them and throw them up the race then ram their heads in a gate. Tells me one thing, they are wimps and can only be tough to animals!
Survival of the fittest you hippie faggot. You think our ancestors were evil for killing and eating meat? If it wasn't for them you wouldn't be here. Get a grip you fucking pussy.
@needabloodyname The people on here are not protesting to eating meat, man. They are protesting to the cruelty these animals are subjected to before they are slaughtered. These animals come to this world for a very brief moment and they only know of pain. It is not a matter of wether they are intelligent, it is a matter of wether they can feel pain. And the answer is, yes, they surely do!
Becoming Vegetarian/Vegan is a way of objecting this and making a statement.
wtf while unloading ders a lil kid there thts not right srsly i went to the slaughter shop were there all packed and stunk and i was nearly sick and dwon the road u could see a big white building i asume thts were it all ended for the poor creatures
most of you are ignorant to the reality of what goes on in these places. They are regulated as is the Bobby calve industry. As far as the father having his son there would you lot grow up. What danger is ther kid in? The abbatiors are not working and im tipping he is not watching the animals being stunned and quartered. Time to get a reality check people and live in the real world
Very little regulation occurs. The footage shows calves, unable to walk, being dragged and dumped. Also relentless use of electric prod. Both practices are not acceptable, even under the existing Code of Practice. After the footage was released, the authortities conducted an audit of the abattoir and closed the calf and sheep killing area for months. But the same problems would be found at other abattoirs. Bobby calves are too weak to cope with long distance transport.
@Chocoholicshazz - do you work there? do they have cameras monitoring the process to ensure humane staandards are met? If it is all so regulated, why does the brutal abuses of these animals continue?
Some places are suitable for children and some are not. This is not. If you think it is, then you're not worthy of having children. I'm 43 and pretty much turned a blind eye to this side of what I used to call food but since seeing this vid, I've become vegetarian. I never was happy with eating meat but always chose to ignore the connection between animal and food. I can't get this out of my mind, let alone go back to eating poor little animals just so I can have a fat belly.
Humans are a disgusting species.. they treat animals dreadfully and worse still .. they eat animals corpses .. Has our species still not evolved to know compassion !!!
@neesan1 Just like how we used to hunt them centuries before 'civilisation.' With spears and clubs and arrows. And like how the lion chases the gazelle, bites it in the neck and lets it slowly bleed to death, if not strangling it in its jaws, or the Killer Whales relentlessly terrorising and then biting chunks off a still living blue whale. We are animals as well. Funnily enough, animals eating other animals is how we survive. There is no 'clean' way to kill one either.
@MichaelR1991 We may be animals, but we are intelligent and civilised. When a lion evolves enough to build its own house, or cook dinners, then we will be ashamed of what it does. Though we need to eat other animals, we can do it politely, and make as easy as possible on the animal. This is torture.
This is madness born of greed. The sadest thing I have ever seen.
It is perfectly posible to leeve the calf with its mother untill it is old enough to ween.
The cow will continue to produse milk for at least 12 months or untill she is alowed to dry out. The calf could have a good start to life as is ment to be, and if it is a hefer would add to the hurds, thus increasing milk production.
Wear is the sence in sending thease babys to slauter? Thear isnt any meet on them. Sensle's waist of life.
Poor little things. Firstly they get seperated from their mothers which is distressing enough, they are not getting any milk, they are frightened and then they are starved and treated like that just prior to their deaths. There goes the theory about making the process as stress free as possible for the animals. These poor little buggers never had a chance. Humans are horrible creatures, and no I dont eat Veal.
Why does everyone get upset with the meat industry? These animals are only born to be a part of the meat industry. I like veal and they use the entire animal. They are not pets and raised for this very day. They kill them humanely and the animal feels very little.
what a load of crap! grow up! Humans are ment to eat both meat and plants, no disrespect but its science. And honestly why does everyone think these animals are born 2 be eaten at this age, they are 99% slaughted because farmers arnt able to feed them/house them, we all know what a starving cow looks like, what would all of u think of us if all of our cows looked like skinny african kids?
Disgusting. And humans are considered "civilized," and "humane." I don't give a flying fuck how the method of slaughter is -- it's STILL slaughter. There's nothing "compassionate" or "humane" about murdering a sentient being, especially a defenseless baby. To think of the cows who bellowed for days for their calves, and the terrified calves yearning for their mothers -- often suckling the fingers of their killers. It's sick. There's no justification for such cruelty. NONE. Go vegan!
What are you guys talking about? Alright I totally agree the night before is horrible! and the dad is an idiot for letting his boy in there, but there whole livers are miserable? what a joke, now work and live on a farm and we (like most nz ers) take good care of our calves, and there are inspectors to make sure of that, the calves dont know whats happining, and its over just like that, nothing brutal, remember they are calves, not humans
Yes they are calves ..calves = babies .. they are a living, breathing , feeling species , ok so not human , but by treating them in this way ..what does that make us ??
look, I hate animals cruelty, look these calves arent born to be killed at such a young age for meat, yes i agree that they shouldnt be held in pens that are so cramped up and dirty, but in all honesty they are not humans, they dont know whats happening and really they dont feel a thing, all you veges need to do your homework before commenting I think because I can assure you there alot worse things happening in this world to animals then what you see here,
for fuck sake. Their whole lives are miserable and full of pain. Not one good thing ever happens to them. This is so horrible. I'm vegan and every day I wonder what goes through the minds of vegetarians all-so-fine with eating dairy. Is it because they don't know and/or don't care to find out?
thanks for your reply, but i'm gonna have to go ahead and...disagree with you there. if i purchased dairy to eat, every time i did that i would be saying "this is what i want, order in another one because there is a demand for this product" Not only do i not buy it because its extremely cruel, it is bad for your health and the environment (mass production) I can also campaign against it while not being a hypocrite and show people that we don't need dairy to live. :)
not when you by organic jersey dairy... I grew up eating seafood as a protein... dairy product is gross only for what they put in the animals & how they live... so I eat organic jersey as my dairy (no calf slaughter either)... all grass feed & hand milked... its a good supplement & it has living microbes in it... makes your immune system stronger... so not all of it is bad... for your brain & immune system, to properly work, need a good dietary balance... and there are lots of organic sources...
God that makes me feel ashamed to be an Australian. Most kids would be horrified. How will that one turn out. I thought kids were not allowed at these death houses.
