  • Thanks for sharing with us this wonderful video!

I am a new Canadian, and I want to become part of the NDP. It is probably the best decision I will make! I want to elect a government which represent us.

  • Over here in france it's worse, there not cats there dogs

  • #Occupy get rid of Pepsi vs Coke, because we all know cola alone isn't a choice.

  • I saw this at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

  • ...Raffertycat happened to remember they used to be mice and stood up to the New-Democats they were punished. And when they gathered together to discuss their party and the suggestion of removing the word 'socialist' from their party document the cry from these cats screeching "We're still mice! We're still mice". It is a sad end to the story. Especially when I look at the policies of Mr. Douglas and find much to like. Unfortunate it is those are not the policies of the NDP anymore.

  • A good story but he did not get to the end. Because those mice DID elect some mice to the parliament. And sure these mice tried to bring in laws good for mice but as the years went on these mice grew a little fatter, their teeth were a little sharper, their ears a little pointier until to all appearances they WERE cats, and indeed they were. But these cats were far more sinister than the old cats because they still believed they were mice! And when one of these New-Democats such as Hyercat or...

  • These days, the NDP are the cats with spots on them.

  • Something to think about!

  • Half white and half black cat?... Welcome to America.

  • @zzanas BWAHAHH!

  • This is a message relevent for the people of America as well. Slaves, wake up we must abolish the illegal Federal Reserve, outlaw lobbying, get a real media, have publicly funded campaigns and investigate 9-11.

  • Great video......This is comparible to today's Ontario Government, we keep electing the cats like Mike Harrris's and Dalton McGuinty's of this Province....nothing positive ever happens under their power....it's time for a change...

  • the Dalton McGuinty suggestion at the top of this page is an affront to everything this video represents, fail youtube...fail..d

  • This is great

  • People of the world, listen to what i am saying: The U.S. is becoming the center point for the Collapse, which is my name for the global crisis that you would call the Apocalypse. The Collapse will begin when the prices of foodstuffs and other items we ABSOLUTLEY NEED (NOT WANT) to survive become unaffordable. War will break out to steal, protect, and find such resources. Famine and crime will run rampant across the world. WW III will begin. WE ARE NOT PREPARED! See channel for more typed info.

  • No you can't lock up an idea! Ron Paul 2012! Freedom!

  • @LibertarianChristian Seriously? Ron Paul IS a black cat, the one of the biggest fattest one out there, as is anyone who still believes in the lie of the "free market". American workers need their own state, not to be run by a capitalist.

  • @neosoc There is a big difference between capitalism and corportism. American isn't capitalist, it's corporatist. Ron Paul wants to become president so you can keep your money and let you live your life in peace. He doesn't want to steal money from you to give to the banks and corporations which is what Bush and Obama etc. have been doing... What's wrong with that?

  • @LibertarianChristian 1. The entire point of Douglas' parable was that workers (mice) shouldn't have to live with a system (capitalism) that favors the interests of the ruling class (cats), whom have designed the system specifically to benefit them. Pontificating about libertarianism is inappropriate in that cotext. It's like going to a Teabagger rally in a Che Guevara t-shirt.

  • @LibertarianChristian 2. We have capitalism now, so you're not making much sense. Corporatism was invented for the sole purpose of defending businessmen from the Evil Bolshevik Hordes (TM). Private property was very much still around in Fascist regimes, with workers getting diddly squat (like now). Want complete privatization? Read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair, and see what life was like for most urban Americans back when we had more "liberty".

  • @LibertarianChristian 3. I? I don't mind contributing towards the general welfare, and neither should you. I put it to you that not wanting to contribute towards everyone's right to a healthy life, education, equal represantation, and decent compensation for work is unpatriotic. Ron Paul is FOR the corporations rights to run roughshod over working people for profits without "interference." It says a lot that more Canadians appreciate their social benefits, than we appreciate our own system.

  • @neosoc If you think America has capitalism, then you don't know what capitalism is. Capitalism is voluntary and free trade. Corporatism is corporations using the monopoly of the government to regulate all their competition out of business and offer a worse service at a higher price. When government intervene in the voluntary actions of free human beings someone gets screwed. and who do you think is really in control of the policy makers, the people, or the lobbyists from banks and corporations?

  • @LibertarianChristian Oh, we DON'T have capitalism? I'm sorry, I must have missed the moment we lost the right to own private property, the right to buy and sell goods, and the commanding heights of the economy were placed under state control.

There's a very good reason that capitalists put more trust in "corporatism" and government bail-outs than in your fantastical vision of "capitalism": their motive is profit, and this "capitalism" you speak of is neither workable, nor profitable.

  • @LibertarianChristian Isn't capitalism about capitalists doing whatever they want to do? Who are YOU to tell them they can't band together in monopolies and trusts and control their respective industies? YOU presume to tell free entrepreneurs what they CAN and CANNOT do, you fascist nazi muslim socialist communist statist, you!

Not only is this "capitalism" of yours utopian, it is also self-defeating and contradictory.

  • @neosoc it's not utopian at all, it's just based on the non-aggression principle, I don't want to use force on peaceful, honest people. You make a good point supportive of my case... you mentioned bailouts... In a truly free society, there are no bailouts, you can't use the government to take money from the people to give to your bank or business. That is why I argue we have corporatism not capitalism.

What's wrong with saying that people should be free to produce and trade voluntarily?

  • @LibertarianChristian Not believing in force is like not believing in gravity. Even if there was less "government coercion", there would be more coercion on the part of the capitalists. Power vacuums NEVER last, despite the best intentions of all the dewy-eyed idealistic libertarians. Like I said earlier, if you want an accurate picture of a time when there was less government regulation of businesses (the "gilded" age), you have only to read "The Jungle" and "Oil" by Upton Sinclair.

  • @neosoc In a free market corporations can't cause coercion and get away with it because the government then punishes them for harming someones person or property rights. However in a corporatist society (like we have) they DO get away with it through using the monopoly of the government.

  • @LibertarianChristian If the state can push around business for ANY reason, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having uninterfered capitalism? And who's to stop the capitalists from, y'know, CONTROLLING the "capitalist" government through bribery? Y'know, like they've ALWAYS done? What if they decide to get rid of government, and rule through private militias?

This "capitalism" of yours is unrealistic, because it doesn't factor in the greed of capitalists (i.e. businessmen) themselves.

  • @neosoc They DO control the government through bribery... that's what I'm fighting against. That's why I don't want to give government more power, because it gives the "greedy capitalists" more power.

Why rule through private militias when you can rule through public ones... that is the military industrial complex.

  • @LibertarianChristian @LibertarianChristian @LibertarianChristian The point you seem not to get is that just taking power from the government would create a power vacum. And, as I said earlier, power vacuums never last; capitalists would directly step in and establish their own governance over the rest of us. Yeah, they probably wouldn't get private militias for a while (though the ones back in the day used the Pinkertons). They'll just privatise the military and police.

  • You would think the NDP would want to identify with something other than rats. :P

  • @swoopnhuck Not funny, it's just a metaphor for the dangers of a 'cat and mouse' economy/ government. =P

  • Fortunately, still, there are some guys who got the balls to speak the truth! word. Depending on the point of view, u can apply this to almost entire world. Peace

  • Always important story - also tale from my personal life.

  • ...they even elected a half white, half black cat....Hmmmmm.....

  • lol too bad the NDP will never form a government with less than 15% of the popular vote...ahaha especially if less than 60% of Canadians vote.

  • @geof7530 haha and what do you say to the fact that the ndp got 30% of the popular vote tonight hmm?

  • @alexandrahrahrah lol not much. Too bad that everyone was pissed at the liberals which is why they voted NDP, and even that doesnt matter considering its a Conservative majority...so congratulations I guess is in order

  • Cat = capitalist Mouse = Workers. To classes with completely opposite interests.

  • I'm a proud New Democrat for six years.

  • One honest voice is louder than a thousand voices. Tommy Douglas. Great leader. A visionary. One of the extraordinary personalities in Canadian History. I believe that it is my duty as an immigrant in this country to know about Canadian history, government, geography and the essence of being Canadian. I also believe in knowing where you came from to reach your destination.

  • "My friends, watch out for the little fellow with an idea!"

  • Jack Bauer is a socialist? My mind just got blown.

  • @MEYERS3000 .......he's a New Democrat....your mind is on vacation but your mouth is working overtime....

  • @MEYERS3000 Great ain't it?

  • Now your doing Bank of America commercials... Comon Sutherland!

  • This is perfect. Just saw this today. I voted Green Party in New York the other day. We're on the ballot for the next four years. I'm not a member of the Green Party but it's over for me. If it wasn't crystal clear Barry Obama made it clear. Red cats/blue cats, black cats/white cats -- what the two colors matters not -- the message is clear. And just for the record, my genuine black cats approve and they were happy that I voted for the mice.

  • All of you capitalistic oligarchical Republican neo-fascists who try to compare Tommy to Stalin should all take a good look at yourselves. And then look at the TRUTH about Tommy.

And hey, your right. He was a real Socialist. Stalin, Moa, and all the Reds were not even close to true Socialists. Marx was not a true Socialist. Tommy Douglass was the ONLY ONE to stick to the true beliefs of Socialism. Equality for all. No classes. The USSR was a joke. Tommy was a true man for the people.

  • @TheGarfuncle How do we have get this point across to the intellectually-stunted people of my country -- brainwashed, propagandized, intellectually-stunted America.

  • Goyherder is a very racist name is it not , and 2 your talking nonsense. Great film.Always Keither and his father.

  • This video is thinly veiled antisemitism, if we take the cats to being the jews like rothschilds at zionists etc and the goyim to be the mice. Even if it is true its antisemitism and a hate crime in freedom loving Canada. The truth is no defense against hate.

  • @goyherder Uhh, sure. If you can somehow reason that the speech is actually suggesting that the cats are Jews. Good luck with that. I'd be more willing to argue that Jews in Canada were a part of the mice, especially during that 90-year period up until the time Tommy Douglas started giving this speech.

  • @goyherder Hey NAZI, suck my BIG Goyim Penis :-)

  • First off, I'm 99% sure this was done an Amiga with Deluxe Paint! Awesome!

To 17Spartacus76: No, he wasn't saying he identified with the Bolsheviks. He was saying that the reactionaries who locked the mouse in jail did so because they were unable to distinguish between a Bolshevik and any form of Socialism, as was done over and over during the various phases of the "red scare" here in the U.S. Douglas, like George Orwell and numerous other anti-authoritarians, were Democratic Socialists.

  • This story was told from a socialist's perspective, but it could apply to either party. The problem with socialism is that it's a giant ponzi scheme that makes all the mice more weak and dependent and at the mercy of the cats. The free market system puts the responsibility on the individual rather than the collective, and so free market countries tend to prosper whereas socialist countries tend to become more and more poor like Cuba, North Korea, the old Soviet Union - and the U.S. now.

  • @OutaSynch

??? There are so many things wrong with this analysis. First off, the U.S. is less socialist now than it was during its 1950-1980 peak. The move towards deregulation and market principles is what has weakened the lower and middle classes. Our wealth disparity has skyrocketed since then.

We are much less socialist than Sweden, Norway, England, France, Germany, Belgium, etc... and they work far less than we do, live longer than we do, have less poverty, much smaller disparity, etc

  • "Oh, he's just a Bolshevik!"

NIce one Tommy... at the time you said that, the Bolsheviks (Soviets) had murdered nearly 40 million people. You were a pathetic, twisted human being...

  • @17Spartacus76 Umm... The bolsheviks didn't murder anybody... You may be thinking of Stalin.

Also, I disagree that this message is for all the people of Canada. It's for all the people of the world.

  • @laziboy009

Are you brain dead? The bolsheviks murdered more people in the first 6 months of their revolution than the Tsar did during his entire reign. Lenin had entire villages exterminated for not accepting their rule.

Stalin also was a bolshevik. He was in the same party as Lenin. Don't waste your time splitting hairs. I'm not interested in debating communist ideologues and people with no knowledge of history.

  • @17Spartacus76 That's all beside the point. This video has nothing to do with the bolsheviks. Tommy Douglas mentioned the bolsheviks for a second when quoting a fictional third party. What does that have to do with anything?

  • @laziboy009

It shows just what kinds of people Tommy identified with. The idea that the CCF/NDP represented anything different or better than the prevailing two parties is a joke.

Those mice weren't electing a fellow mouse, it was a plague-ridden rat,

  • When will the mice learn,. . Must be beacause the cats are good at acting like mice,. at least untill they are voted in! Obama anyone..,

  • Who are The Cats?? Any politician receiving corporate monies. They always dance (and stealthly look the other way) with who brung 'em.

Corporate fraud/ oligarchy is destroying us!

  • @KenMacMillan: You had to Google his name to figure out Tommy Douglas was a socialist--_after_ seeing Mouseland???

  • My hero, wish we had more politicians like him with a sense of integrity and comprehension of the concept: Serving the Voters, not Corporate wh*es

  • USA needs to learn a thing or two from our friends on CANADA..we are living in MOUSEHELL, here!

  • I agree with the fella who commented that after some time the mice forget they are mice and become like cars. Term limits could help mice to remember that they are mice. I don't believe our forefathers believed politics would become careers and someones only means of work. Six years in any one position would rotate people out with very few being able to be politians for life.

  • "and they called him a Communist and put him in jail"

should be "and they called him a market fundemetalist and they [the statists] put him in jail."

  • The only problem with that. Is that through time the mice will forget they were mice. And become cats.

  • If voting changed anything, it too would be illegal. Politics are a diversion. Banks have been ruling over elected Governments for long enough now that u'd think it would be obvious to the mice and the cats- but not in USA 2010...

  • @peterchoyce bullshit the there are more regulations every year. the Bush administration passed 78 000 pages a day and the Obama administration is passing more.

  • I never heard of Tommy Douglas until now but a quick google search is all it takes to find out he's a socialist.

  • @KenMacMillan and KenMacMillan put the little fella in jail....

  • awesome way to describe class conflict

  • May the ideals of Tommy Douglas live forever in Canada.

  • This applies even more to the United States! That's why I'm running for Congress in Massachusetts as an independent (Michael Engel). It's too bad the NDP has lost its edge since Douglas' time...

  • look up the old cartoon "Capitol Critters"

  • SO please join me now as my grandfather takes us to a place he calls 'Mouseland.' And don't forget to ernrich both Rupert Murdoch, Fox, and the Republican Party by watching '24.'

  • @jokerman326 If you're trying to call Kiefer a hypocrite, I'm pretty sure that doesn't work.

  • I don't support the NDP, but I'd vote for Tommy Douglas as one of the Great Canadians anytime! Cute cartoon too...

  • This reminds me of the old saying "when Elephants fight it's the Mice that get stepped on !!!

  • OK but why did KS star in 24, the RW cheerlead for torture and fave show?

  • Good question.

    PS don't vote for cats.

  • Check your 24... torture didn't actually work on the series. The hardcases with real information didn't give it up and the information from other torture victims turned out to be either irrelevant, wrong, or something someone else arrived at by other, non-torture means.

  • Not the season I saw. But it still was the rally cry for the RW, so apparently they did not have your discerning eye.

  • Torture lost its charm when republicans left houses. When republicans seize power, Fox will restore tortures glory again and Kiefer still will be there.

  • I was thinking the exact same thing

  • Maybe because hes a cat

  • Happy New Year, from America. Where healthcare reform remains nothing more than a shallow hope. We have not achieved reform. Our representatives are more beholden to H. M. O.s then to their voters. Our governent does not represent the people. What's next? Dictatorship. For all you who care to differ, look up the definition of Fascism. It's on it's way, and it's not far off. H. M. O.s, Wall St., big oil and coal, the corporate world, all are the real constituents in America. Good night America.

  • RIP good sir

  • Hahaha--it sounds like he was talking about the Democrats and Republicans. It is too bad that even if a mouse were elected, by some miracle of modern technology he would become a cat anyway.

  • the cats can be red and blue and it would apply to the US totally.

  • Totally.

  • @GodHatesYouPeople my thoughts exactly. the repubs are far right wing and the dems are corporatists. we have no liberal party in the usa. republicans eisenhower and nixon were more liberal than today's dems. we need politicians that stop passing laws that benefit the fat cats but not the people. politicians listen to the fat cats not the people/mice.

  • Unfortunately, so true!

  • Tommy Doughlas was awesome.

    A shame he's dead.

  • power turns mice into cats

  • This is a great analogy for how disconnected the government in Ottawa is from the rest of Canada. I especially liked the part with the newspaper at the beginning of this, where they mock past Prime Ministers. That was pretty funny. But the fact of the matter is that all those past Prime Ministers did the best they knew how. You can't have a perfect government until it's run by perfect people, and good luck finding one of those. Sometimes I think we as citizens complain too much.

  • What is Keifer Sutherland's real name?

  • @AlexTrebucq

Kiefer Sutherland is his real name. He's Donald Sutherland's son who married Tommy Douglas' daughter, Shirley Douglas. Don't know if he has dual citizenship or not tho.

  • Seems to me that this was the central message of Ralph Nader.

Who is then attacked and smeared by all those Democratic Party mice.

Jesus, talk about missing the point entirely..

Oh well, now we have Obama/Bush the new war criminal president. Looking out for the Banksters and corporate elite.

    Just like Bush.

  • I have never voted NDP, nor particularly liked the NDP in general, but Tommy Douglas is very deserving as the Greatest Canadian. As the only man who stood up to the War Measures Act during the October Crisis, he's earned the respect he has.

  • Congratulations for a GREAT message. Hopefully this will get spread around America. I'll never look at Kiefer the same as before. Thank you Canada. You can and should all be proud.

  • Sadly raspukin7 most Canadians do not know who Tommy Douglas is or even one of his great acomplishments. This is a case of my envy of Americans they are told all about the great architeks of their countrys' past. In Canada the architeks are all but forgotten making it easier to sweep away all the accomplishments. It is terrible to see the first generation who beneifited from Tommy's reforms willfully forget to pass on the Tommy's message of basic human decency. Do we have to lose it all again?

  • I wonder why Tommy is considered the greatest Canadian in that country's long history? Is that not fact? B.S.? This American is glad to have Canada as our northern neighbor. I do not look over my nose at Canada, and was thrilled to have visited the Canadian Rockies for about a month. Nothing but pleasant memories. But, our beer is better. Especially Oregon's!

  • actually you are right about Oregon beer. Great micro breweries, though I never thought I'd agree that U.S. beer is better than Canadian. :)

  • @raspukin7 Thank you. I am proud, and I am saying thank you to you as a person. No matter where we are from we all make up every land in every way.

  • You are correct. You can't elect a mouse. Mice are poor and don't have any money for a election campaign like fat cats do............

  • you are also correct, yet even if it were possible - a mouse magically transforms into a cat when elected, as is the nature of the position. its not that people are 'bad', just that incentives acting on people are ignored.

  • That's only because many mice are stupid and cowardly and easily led around by their noses and don't even bother to vote, cats love the fact most mice feel hopeless and helpless. Many mice, if they do vote they listen to the cats story and wish they were one too and so re elect yet an other mouse eating cat. So the cats get fatter, and the mice work harder for less every year and do nothing but whine about it like frightened emasculated little mice. And then watch hockey.

  • Which in turn makes many a cat wonder laughingly what the f**k is wrong with these shit eating mice what else will they stand still for and so they think of something else to take from them...

  • Oscar, Wy you are correct. Cats understand and use mouse psychology against the mice.

  • Damning with faint praise.

"Not as advanced as U.S." ...

Check out the advances being made by Canada in surgical robotics and telemedicine, just for starters. Sound a little high-tech, don't they? They are.

    radarsat . espace .gc . ca/ eng/ missions/ neemo9/ telemedicine . asp

In fact, one reason for the focus on telemedicine is to ensure that remote communities have equivalent access. Valuing equality - not just profits - stimulates innovation.

  • The cats are trying to stop public health care in America right now!

  • You obviously are so deluded by corporate propaganda, that you are no longer able to distinguish a cat from a mouse.

  • You oblivious don't realize just who the cats really are.......

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

It is our history, and we need to know it.

Surely there is somewhere that foreigners who wish to bash Canada and Canadians for reasons having nothing to do with this video can do that without smearing their vitriol around here.

We're happy to share our experience with our southern cousins. If you aren't interested, good day to you.

  • as for Americans having to lie about where they come from isn't true at all. I haven't lied to anyone that I have met in another country that I am American, and they have shown me the same respect I show them for there customs and culture, another friend of mine goes back and forth from America and Saudi and does just fine, he says he might decide to even live there.

  • but to be fair, the American government isn't any better. And if Canadians like their Socialist form of government and nationalized healthcare then more power to them, I am entitled to my opinions as much as anyone

  • I love my country but hate my Satanic Government!

  • I have been saying the same thing! Thumbs up.

  • I believe all Americans should watch this video and learn something from Canada!!!!!

  • YEs we can. Most Canadians need to see this as well. We are all on the same ride and most people can't see it.

  • ok, what is it we are supposed to learn, from what I have seen and heard Canada is much better off than we are : /

  • I mean Canada isn't much better off than we are, I am bad at typing lol

  • You are supposed to learn that the political situation in 1930's was unacceptable the gov't was neglicting the needs of the people, blaming the situation on the economics of the time. The story tells ordinary people that they can stand up and change their lives. The CCF started with a manifesto and no money. Candidates did what they could to get elected and in 1944 the CCF swept to power in Saskatchewan and embarked on a 20yr rule changing the lives of the citizens for the better

  • Our ignorant fellow citizens who are to consumed with their own self absorption to stand against our satanic psycho, fascist, govt. are the reembodyment of the spine less Good German citizens of the 1930s and 1940s. Clint Hershey

  • you pretending there is a god is your "illusion of knowledge" LOL

and you reject the truth because you are an ignorant little pussy.

  • 1)there is no god. there is no satan.

    2) you don't even know what the "kaaba" is, retard

    3) you don't even know what the NWO is nor its "final plans"

    4) LOL at "stargates"! good one, retard :)

you are fucking insane and it is hilarious and sad that you are too stupid to realize it.

hopefully your utter stupidity won't hurt anyone.

  • auamoti, your statement is incorrect the case for human decency which is what T.C. Douglas campaigned for and enacted he did not want the hero worship that other political leaders are after. In his last public address in 1983 he stated "Is it not the achievement that has been made to better the lives of the population more important than who gets the credit" - referring to healthcare in Sask and Canada.

  • JOE HIGGINS

  • Tommy only used this analogy when he was running provincially. Any and all national federal parties are members of the cat party just because of the demographics of our federation.

  • Douglas is infinitly better than Layton... Give me Douglas and I will give you the NDP in power... (or Sutherland will do)

  • blame canada........screw you................at least we have chocies..............at least we peace keep instead of fight..................at least we can go places and proudly be canadian and not get gunned or knifed...............unlike americans who have to pretend to be canadian or another background when travelling some places to be excepted (and that does happen)..........like come on be respectful, canada is a great place to live and experience

  • Canada is ahead of U.S in quality of life (official rankings), and even though their healthcare might not be as advanced as U.S, at least everyone has access to it.

  • Amen andron333! I am not that concerned for myself. But EVERYONE should be concerned for their children and grandchildren. Do you want a private insurance company denying care for them? Do you? Come on everyone! Please write and call your local Congress person and tell them we need the public option. If the insurance companies can't play fairly, they go out of business. That is what the "free market" is ALL about! That is why we have Costco's and Walmarts! It keeps everyone honest!

  • Surely then it's more advanced

    x

  • extravagant

  • CarnivoreEschelon, if we take away your 9-11 DENIER talking points and your Psy-ops stipend will you have anything to say or anything to eat?

9-11 WAS and thanks to shills and toadies like

CarnivoreEschelon continues to be an INSIDE JOB

    Shame.

  • I love this speech.

  • really!

  • for more about the cats google "Wake up America! - Dr. John Coleman (Illuminati, Committee of 300)"

  • tommy douglas is one corrupt dudette

  • I hope you are joking, or at least not a Canadian who knows about Tommy.

  • of course im joking tommy douglas is the tits i acutally just performed in his church last night it was quite nice

  • @Quintonias

Could you elaborate, or are you just typing out of boredom!

  • well i was bored at the time but serious about the church, his church in fact in weyburn saskatchewan.
