I remember watching The Rap City episode where Joe Cleezy was interviewing Lee after Biggie had died. He said he thanked God every day that he was able to do a collab with Biggie. Lee ripped that shit. Niggaz aint even know Philly been had spitters.
The last verse is one of Biggie's best underrated verses ever. Like how Pun's verse on Terror Squad's Hidden Hand is one of his best thats underrated. I was 14 when this dropped. I was awed then and I'm awed now. Biggie was incredible.
them rings and things you sing about bring em out,its hard to yell when the barrel is in ya mouth.lol, that right there is enough to make this a hot song
Tracy lee held his own but dammit man Big went off on on this track mad hard. Tracy last vs missing though. I hear people saying 2 albums can't make u the G.O.A.T. When u kill every track you've ever been on from rap to r&b features to killing a freestyle about pepsi. Biggie is the greatest to me far as being lyrical, his wordplay, wittiness, the vivid storytelling, and just overall deliver. I am a Jay fan as well got all his albums but Big is the epitome of what it means to be a great emcee.
@DA7odKAI I couldn't agree more with your sentiments of why Big's the illest MC, hands down. With him, it wasn't what he said, it was HOW he delivered it...
Jay Z's "What more can I say" and Canibus's "How We Roll" both use the beat well and are dope songs but nothing is messing with version. Big murdered it and Tracy Lee dropped some dope verses also. The Premo Remix with Meth and Red was dope too but again nothing beats the original. Amazing Classic Track. R.I.P. B.I.G. G.O.A.T.
To speak of the session, BIG came in cracked jokes, talked, smoked, drank, all while THINKING of what he was gonna spit. Then out of no where he spit this FIRE.. No Paper allowed all from the dome... Jay was in the next studio @ D&D when we recorded this, and Clark had flipped the beat but i got mine on the desk at Bystorm first. So he then gave his version to Canibus.
I would like to thank all of you wholove this underground hip hop classic. But i MUST dispel the rumors. First Clark Kent who is my dude nor D-Dot produced it. i did... check the credits Ike Lee III, same cat that gave y'all Poppa Large the remix by Ultramagnetic MCs plus a gang of other shit. BIG is and will always be the GREATEST!! All others are the great ones still alive to claim it.
who had this first.......canibus or tracey lee? cuz i know canibus rapped over this beat also. i discovered cani's version on eightball's 3 disc album titled "lost". great album by the way. anyway, i'd appreciate an answer. peace.
much appreciated. thanks man. my homie owns cani's first album and i owned this one. To me, it seemed very close to the same year when i heard both versions. i don't think tracy came out with his album until 1997. eightball's album was 1998 so its difficult for me to remember back that far. anyway, thanks bro.
BIGGIE WE MISS THE SHIT OUTTA YOU...the game is WACK RITE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean im loving em,jay z, jadakiss and da lox... but THERES NO ONE LIKE YOU AND NEVER WILL BE.. rest in peace PLAYBOY .. you was the REALEST who to ever spit it..
Tray Lee held it down, but BIG was/is on another level. This track is from 1996, and BIGs verse is killing 99.99% of whats out now, they used his verse again on born again to make another sick track (with meth, red and primo), Jay used lines and the beat for what more can I say (but Canibus used it in 97). BIG=G.O.A.T.
biggie only got 2 studio albums to his credit while he was alive, & over a decade later them verses still transcend 99% of the rappers out now. this nigga was a real student of his trade. BEST EVER!!!!
i never hear this before. i guess thats why j z is so hot. fuck the bullshit. ITS HARD TO YELL WHEN THE BARRELS IN YOUR MOUTH. AND OTHER FOLLOWED HIM.
For all of yall that don't know this. Puff screwed the shit out of Tracey Lee. This was the last man to make a song with BIG. This is the original version of the song. This is one of the reasons that Dickhead Diddy is a snake and is not to be trusted for nothing.
thats because big never wrote his shit down. everynow and then when he got somethin new in his head he would write it wherever. but when he did a whole song or freestyle he didnt write it down. haven't yall heard jay-z claimin he don't write either. i think he's just copyin biggie but he might b that good
Tray matches B.I.G line for line on this joint and his flow even EXCELS sometimes. Check Tray's first verse. Also, he does do MUCH better than Jay did with B.I.G on Brooklyn's Finest.
yea son used to listen this shit hard on the stoops.Niggas always told me to change the song but i always told them to fucc off Rip B.I.G King of New York
Tracy lee is now 38 years old. He earned a bachelor's degree from Howard University in 1994 and graduated from Southern University Law School in 2004.
When I heard this shit on a Clue mixtape back in the day, I was like WTF! I slept on Tra Lee's album back in the day! And all I have to say is DJ Clark Kent is the illest for producin this joint....and THEN using the SAME sample to create Canibus's "How We Roll" joint! COMPLETE GENIUS! Any producer that does that and get away with using the same sample is a genius in my book! I thought that was him who did "What More Can I Say" on Jay's album but it was those cats The Birminghams. Big up to them
He did mention, Bitches get naked off "Get Money", "Player's Anthem" Don't forget "One More Chance" and, my other hits, other shit, niggas spit be counterfeit, robbery come actually in and out like fuckin rapidly...
check the other tray lee video, bystorm ent was owned by the mad rapper dude, he produced hypnotize, all about the Benjamins, money power respect, Derrick D dot
Damn Jay really does steal biggies lyrics. Its not even necessary to big up B.I.G he is the king of new york aint nobody 4get who Biggie is. And I'm upset cause my lil cousin thought Tracey Lee stole this shit from Jay-Z (don't worry he's young). I thought that bring em out line was Jay's line until I find out biggie made it, and ppl sample Jay sayin it like he made the line
I used to say the same thing. But he uses every line BIG said. I mean how can you big up BIG he's the king of NY!!! So I just say Jay is just taking rhymes that these kids say is hot but not knowing BIG said it.
@jerzy862 Nah, that's not what I mean, because I like both too, but I don't like kids tellin me Jay was and is iller than Big, purely cos he's still alive...
Jay is a faggot..im not buyin that he biggin up his brother shit no more..he just a thief..re used the same sample big went ballistic on AND used one of his sickest lines..smh...and what happened to tracy lee?? son was nice..
Nah man you got it wrong. I look at it as if Jay is just keeping Biggie's legacy alive.I mean yo almost every mc in the history of hiphop has borrowed lines from other rappers.
This track is nice. The instrumental on this track is like combining the instrumentals on the "How We Roll" track by Canibus on the "Can-I-Bus" album (1998) and "What More Can I Say" on Jay-Z's "The Black Album" album (2003).
you have to understand though. This song really isn't that known. Underground pretty much. When he said that, it made people believe he actually said that line. He said WHen I say a biggie line. Well nobody actually knew it was until they actually heard this song.
And Biggie is a Legend, no one actually needs to use a biggie line. Because everyone associated with hip-hop, and actually listen to his songs knows how good he was.
Maybe, but I thought Redman was on it as well...maybe Jay-Z and Redman. All I know is that my friend gave me a CD years ago (2003/4) and it had nothing but Redman's latest songs, but it was not the "official" album and it had a song with this beat and him ripping it.
That was Red's "Bricks Standup" off the "Ill at Will" mixtape(watch?v=XVL0gxHTyas). Yeah that was Red spitting on the Jay-Z "What More Can I Say" beat, which used the same sample as this song.
this was one of them joints puff and them should be puttin back out instead of remakes of shit niggas already got...classic shit...B.I.G was at his peak...word up.
this is not an collabo...biggie killed him on his own track....kinda like Em did Jay-Z on "Renagade" and like Pac did Snoop on "America's Most Wanted" !!
...play hard like Reggie Miller, rapper slash dope dealer slash gorilla slash illest turned illa. verses like that made Biggie the greatest. Ive bought this album like 5 times. tracey lee should have had another chance
Man i miss hip-hop . I love it so much just dont like this new shit . First time i heard this song i rewinded it 20 times before it got to the end . this new shit dont make me want to hit the rewond button . ill play it again but its not going to make me be like what the fuck he say !!!
i am a country nigga. i'm from valdosta GA and i probably love hip hop more than anyone. i'm 28 and i came up on real hip hop but i don't descriminate on new hip hop. you got your good and your bad just like old school hip hop, because not all old school hip hop was good
what the hell do you mean "Unreleased", this shit isn't unreleased you just don't know your fuckin hip-hop, this song is monumental and its on Tracey Lee's album, if yall was up on that shit then yall wouldn't have to worry about the song being cut off cause the whole song in better quality is available on Tray Lee's first album "Many Facez", do ya research and get familiar
1 of the best biggie verses ever they need to play this more n y isn't this on I tunes. Tray lee been hot.
