We were driving down the freeway yesterday in my Focus when all of a sudden, there was this loud rubbing noise and the car started pulling to the right. We Were in the middle lane, but managed to get pulled over on the shoulder without an accient. At first, I thought we had a flat, but when I looked, the tire wasn't flat, but it had a deep groove in the tread I looked at the strut and noticed the spring had broken, and part of it fell down and came in contact with the tire.
@LarryLane07 Ouch! Pleased it wasn't more serious than than that. It's a fairly easy job to repair yourself if you've got DIY skills and a few hours to spare.
Many thanks guys for responding to this video and apologies for taking so long to respond. Problem was solved 6 months ago. Both my front springs were broken. I bought a pair of springs for £42 and compressors for £19 from ebay. It took me about 4 hours to complete the job - not bad, considering I've never changed suspension springs before. Ford UK had quoted me £400 for the same job.
did you ever get this fixed? it is the struts/springs/shocks not being seated properly at the top of the car. they are "jumping" off their seats...this was happening to my car and turns out the part the s/s/s sits in was on upside down.
i can tell you what this might be...it could be your struts/shocks popping...either the cap that guards them inside the housings under the car are upside down or they weren't properly seated. there is a little ledge they have to sit up against in order for them to turn at the same time as your wheel. if they move at all, they slide off of the ledge and POP like this. it can be fixed yourself with a couple of hours of work but it shouldn't cost anything to fix it unless there is major damage..
thts the front springs if there broke theyl make that sound my 2000 focus was doing the same thing but the moment i changed them it stoped but its the spring hitting ur car cause the wheel will turn but the spring kause its broke wont turn
