Tonight I watched a documentary on HBO about Barbaro. He was so big and beautiful. It was so sad what happened to him. This horse was loved very much.

Everyone did the best they possibly could, who wouldn't with such an amazing horse? but his death showed us a gap in horse doctoring, and the vets are working to fill that gap. Barbaro would have won a triple crown if he hadn't died.

The only reason why God made this happen is because he didn't want another TC winner and Barbaro was the one who had the most petentional. The only way God could stop him was to break him down.......very tragic :'(.. But he won the hearts of many... Gosh I loved this horse!!

He was an unbelieveable horse, and there is almost no doubt in my mind he would have, and would have been considered one of horse racing elite horses with Man O' War and Secretariat
Chelokee, Eight Bells and Barbaro where all great horses.so sad. But I heard Churchill downs is building a Memorial for Eight Bells and Barbaro at Gate 10. It was the Jockey of Big Browns Idea. It will have both Horses made out of medle standing there welcomeing people to Churchill downs.

I heard Barbaro's dam had a colt that looked exactly like Barbaro! Barbaro never lived to see his brother, but maybe the legacy of Barbaro's amazing courage and strength can be carried on one more time.
he died 3 days after my birthday and when i saw that it happened, i went into shock, i didn't cry til like three days after it happened, but thei i spent like the whole day crying and watching videos of him
*cries* i used to have dreams, almost like memories of riding on a racehorse, my own horse, but as he becoame more attached to my heart, the horse, looked more and more like him. now my dreams have faded the memories are blurried. i feel like 1/2 of me was missing. I also used to think i was a Centar, my father was adopted and i would pretend Barbaro was my grandpa, but now..all is faded in my heart, i cry a lot when i think of him, the day he was put down i cried myself to sleep. GOODBYE BUDDY!
Barbaro was an extrodinary horse as were his doc, riders, jokey and owners. He was loved and what is better yet, he loved us all back as well as "his" friends. :) He is running free now. I will NEVER lose that piece of my heart that is only for Barbaro.
this horse was loved and cared for. the fact that hes not here anymore *sniffles* is just horrible. i think hes in a good place now where no one can hurt him and hes watching down on us saying, "Thank You"
To this day does anyone know what went wrong? Barbaro was in a state of agitation before the fateful race even started. Some might find it hard to believe but maybe he had a premonition.
yea he got laminitis in both of his fronts and they put him down because his pain was no longer manageable . He could not stand comfortably on any of his feet and they could not keep him in a sling for more than a few hours at a time. he was a sweet heart and it was sad to see him go. i was lucky enough to be able to know him before he died.

Thanks for the response. Yea I was aware of the unfortunate failed recovery. I found it interesting though that Barbaro wasn't himself leading up to the Preakness race. Nothing at all was wrong with him physically until he injured his leg a few seconds into the race. With the false start and all I just wondered if he possibly could have known. Some creatures, especially horses, seem to kind of have a sixth sense.
Yes, anyone who loves animals, particularly horses had to have been heartbroken over Ruffian. She was probably the greatest racing filly of all time but she never got to prove it. Just like Barbaro was destined to be up there with the greatest colts with the likes of Man o'War, Secretariat and Seattle Slew but he also never got to prove it.
Barbaro's Derby time of 2:01 was 8th best in history, less than 2 seconds behind Secretariat's record in '73 and only cuz he paced for 3/4 of the race.
it reminds me of my 28 year old horse. i rescued him3 years ago from his owner she abused him. but i couldnt pay for his vet bill so i had to sell him!!! i miss him so so so so so so so much!!!!!!!!!!! i love my horsey pb!!!!!!
As the Triple Crown chase begins, memories of previous champions emerge. I was at Belmont when Secretariat buried the field, and cheered Affirmed at each race he defeated Alydar. Alydar's death (if he was human it would have been murder for hire) was tragic enough. Barbaro was a champion for the ages. A horse who showed heart even through adversity. RIP.
After we had hope and he started recovering then he jjust... couldn't fight anymore. I love this song. We will always have memories of the great Barbaro.

I personaly don't like putting animals to sleep or racing. I like horses and stuff you can do with your horse, just not racing... Most horses that race, the first thing that goes wrong with the horse, the owner either sells to brood, put the horse to sleep, or gives it to a rescue. I don't do must of anything in racing, but, he seemed like a good horse and the owners seemed nice. Unlike most owners that do the "big" races, they actully care about what is best for their horses, not their money.
Shouldn't have watched this at work. I was afraid someone would walk in and see me crying. I have never followed horse racing much, but to see such an amazing animal come to such a tragic end........Your legacy will live on Barbaro.

I don't think they did because he was only 3-4 years old when they euthanized him and i think they have to be at least 5 to be able to be put up for stud.? And i think we would have heard about it if they did.

I have always said my biggest sport questions ever are:
1. Mike Tyson vs. Muhammad Ali
2. Arnold Palmer vs Tiger Woods
3. Would Barbaro have won the Triple Crown?
He was an unbelieveable horse, and there is almost no doubt in my mind he would have, and would have been considered one of horse racing elite horses with Man O' War and Secretariat

Chelokee, Eight Bells and Barbaro where all great horses.so sad. But I heard Churchill downs is building a Memorial for Eight Bells and Barbaro at Gate 10. It was the Jockey of Big Browns Idea. It will have both Horses made out of medle standing there welcomeing people to Churchill downs.

i know what it is like to lose a really great horse my grandpa owned a lot of race horses and he had to put some down but i do remeber Y M I SO GOOD favorite horse RIP BARBARO

I heard Barbaro's dam had a colt that looked exactly like Barbaro! Barbaro never lived to see his brother, but maybe the legacy of Barbaro's amazing courage and strength can be carried on one more time.

he died 3 days after my birthday and when i saw that it happened, i went into shock, i didn't cry til like three days after it happened, but thei i spent like the whole day crying and watching videos of him

*cries* i used to have dreams, almost like memories of riding on a racehorse, my own horse, but as he becoame more attached to my heart, the horse, looked more and more like him. now my dreams have faded the memories are blurried. i feel like 1/2 of me was missing. I also used to think i was a Centar, my father was adopted and i would pretend Barbaro was my grandpa, but now..all is faded in my heart, i cry a lot when i think of him, the day he was put down i cried myself to sleep. GOODBYE BUDDY!

Barbaro was an extrodinary horse as were his doc, riders, jokey and owners. He was loved and what is better yet, he loved us all back as well as "his" friends. :) He is running free now. I will NEVER lose that piece of my heart that is only for Barbaro.

To this day does anyone know what went wrong? Barbaro was in a state of agitation before the fateful race even started. Some might find it hard to believe but maybe he had a premonition.
What a magnificent and beautiful creature he was.

yea he got laminitis in both of his fronts and they put him down because his pain was no longer manageable . He could not stand comfortably on any of his feet and they could not keep him in a sling for more than a few hours at a time. he was a sweet heart and it was sad to see him go. i was lucky enough to be able to know him before he died.

Thanks for the response :) I know all about Barbaro's failed recovery but I was posing the question of why Barbaro broke his leg in the first place and I was wondering if he somehow knew in that little head of his what was coming.

Thanks for the response. Yea I was aware of the unfortunate failed recovery. I found it interesting though that Barbaro wasn't himself leading up to the Preakness race. Nothing at all was wrong with him physically until he injured his leg a few seconds into the race. With the false start and all I just wondered if he possibly could have known. Some creatures, especially horses, seem to kind of have a sixth sense.

Yes, anyone who loves animals, particularly horses had to have been heartbroken over Ruffian. She was probably the greatest racing filly of all time but she never got to prove it. Just like Barbaro was destined to be up there with the greatest colts with the likes of Man o'War, Secretariat and Seattle Slew but he also never got to prove it.
Barbaro's Derby time of 2:01 was 8th best in history, less than 2 seconds behind Secretariat's record in '73 and only cuz he paced for 3/4 of the race.

it reminds me of my 28 year old horse. i rescued him3 years ago from his owner she abused him. but i couldnt pay for his vet bill so i had to sell him!!! i miss him so so so so so so so much!!!!!!!!!!! i love my horsey pb!!!!!!

As the Triple Crown chase begins, memories of previous champions emerge. I was at Belmont when Secretariat buried the field, and cheered Affirmed at each race he defeated Alydar. Alydar's death (if he was human it would have been murder for hire) was tragic enough. Barbaro was a champion for the ages. A horse who showed heart even through adversity. RIP.

After we had hope and he started recovering then he jjust... couldn't fight anymore. I love this song. We will always have memories of the great Barbaro.

this is so sad it made me cry! barbaro was the sweetest horse in the world!!!! i cried for LITTERALY two weeks after he was put down!! his accident was even worse. i was watching that race where he fell i cried!

I personaly don't like putting animals to sleep or racing. I like horses and stuff you can do with your horse, just not racing... Most horses that race, the first thing that goes wrong with the horse, the owner either sells to brood, put the horse to sleep, or gives it to a rescue. I don't do must of anything in racing, but, he seemed like a good horse and the owners seemed nice. Unlike most owners that do the "big" races, they actully care about what is best for their horses, not their money.

I don't think they did because he was only 3-4 years old when they euthanized him and i think they have to be at least 5 to be able to be put up for stud.? And i think we would have heard about it if they did.
