Amateur musicians practice till they can play something. Professional musicians practice till they can't fail to play something. James Last goes beyond that to having everything as he wants it in every performance. I have never heard a bad note on a James Last performance. He has a formidable reputation.

of course it´s a playback. real musicians are not good as playback acteurs. You can see easily that the sax'ist is not playing live, as well as the drums and the guitar. But anyway, i know they are able to play it live and i still love this track. JL is great ! Awesome ! But some TV Stations don´t want acteurs to play live, because they're not able to handle the accoustic side of live propperly !

Maybe you don't realize that you don't need mics directly on stage to get a recording. If you notice, the stage is relatively small and acoustically set up.

lol, im not getting at the band, they are amazing, but this is the studio recording. if the band were covered by condenser mic's from offstage , it would be impossible to get a mix of this clarity (even if there were mic's onstage) Still, i love this track ha ha.

Like if they set it up, they could have added there own stage with the floor mics installed.

Terry Jenkins was Last's drummer from 1978 to around 2002. He is originally from Wales. He also worked with a number of other artists, notably the singer Tom Jones.

Playback - Yep. German TV have never done much else.

But if You get a chance, go to one of their concerts, and You'll get the real thing.

Don't hesitate, though: Der Altmeister is 78 years old now, and the days of the grand tours are over.

Don't write off Mr Last just yet. 2007 saw a European tour including three dates at London's Royal Albert Hall. The RAH Concert is out on DVD, to be released on 31 March. Concerts are planned for 2009 - when he is 80!

Thanks for the comment! Concerts likely to be in April 2009, when Hansi is 80. As yet we are not sure where, but likely to be at the Royal Albert Hall. In the meantime, a new DVD and CD of one of last years September 2007 Royal Albert Hall performances is out on 31 March this year.
