I forgot to mention that i tested my land cruiser at 120km/h, i turned off the engine while driving on the high way at 120km/h, then i kept the gear on neutral.... nothing was working except the steering and the hand brake, it was fantastic and very economical, and worth trying. After the car speed went down i turned on the engine and drove normally. I really missed the prius brakes which works even when the car is off.
I was surprised that the prius brakes works when u shut down the car. Took my car for a test, My land cruiser has no brakes when i turn off the engine only steering ofcoarse not the hydraulic steering. I used the hand brake to stop the land cruiser when the engine was off. Although the land cruiser doesnt have accelerator pedal or brakes problem....

I can not believe that there are drivers out there that might even think that they can not stop their car if the gas pedal is blocked down. By the way one can also press the brake pedal to the floor even if the gas pedal is also to the floor and the car would also stop. Or something else: you can press the clutch pedal (for those ho drive a manual gear box car like I do) and then the acceleration pedal won't matter any more if its stuck or not, there would be no power transferred to the wheels.

@bogdan2501 I doubt that pushing the break to the bottom will stop you if the engine is pulling, normally the engine is much more powerfull than the breaks. So just go to neutral that will release the engine and you will slow down. Normal reaction is just push the clutch, what normally should also release the engine, I'm not familiar with Toyota prios, but I guess it will do as any other car.
@donnomar Car & Driver did an article on this, and they found that a 2010 Camry V6 will stop, AT FULL THROTTLE, AND FULL BRAKES @ 70 MPH in 190 feet In short, 2010 Camry V6, braking test 70-0 under NORMAL conditions in 170 feet. 2010 Camry V6 FULL THROTTLE 70-0 in 194 feet. 24 feet of difference. And for the record, if you did the math and converted braking force to horsepower the average brakes on a car would put out 2,000 horse power. The Prius should be better since it has no power at all.

@PlatinumRacing never seen the test, but anyway breaking and accelerating is very common situation when some people are learning to drive and guess what, very oftend they crash. However if the car is at full throttle and you break you will damage both breaks and engine, so please don't give alternatives when seting the car to neutral is the best option, no damage and safe. Moreover police reports said that the poeple who had the situation with the toyota tried to push the break with no result
@donnomar No damage, just brake wear. You may heat up and warp the rotors, but the engine will be fine. I'm not suggesting they stomp on the brakes instead of putting the car in neutral, I'm just suggesting it as a viable option. And if you go to Jalopnik and search the Toyota incident they published the NHTS findings. Only about 5 out of 40 people TRIED to hit the brakes. The rest were just plain uneducated, not surprising since we live in a country where people never change their oil.

I'll buy an american car when they make a car that lasts past 100k miles. I have family that worked for GM, and even though I get a discount on all GM I STILL dont buy em. Especially knowing some inside info - The union is what kills it, simply because they have people who are 90yrs old and dont wanna retire. Or people who literally come to work drunk or on heroin - and this has actually happened, MANY times.

Honda, has a HUGE plant near where i live in marysville. That employs thousands of americans.

@cagonesss GM or ANY of the big 3 are not the same as they used to be. They have been building nothing but cheap junk for a while. And GM sends most of the jobs to Mexico for cheap labor and cheap shit which equals junk quality, but more money into GMs pocket to just keep sending to Mexico. It's a continuing thing. Toyota employes THOUSANDS of Americans and supports THOUSANDS of US part suppliers. Most of their vehicles are made mor ein the US (with quality) then GM or Chryslers cheap shit.

I forgot to mention that i tested my land cruiser at 120km/h, i turned off the engine while driving on the high way at 120km/h, then i kept the gear on neutral.... nothing was working except the steering and the hand brake, it was fantastic and very economical, and worth trying. After the car speed went down i turned on the engine and drove normally. I really missed the prius brakes which works even when the car is off.

I was surprised that the prius brakes works when u shut down the car. Took my car for a test, My land cruiser has no brakes when i turn off the engine only steering ofcoarse not the hydraulic steering. I used the hand brake to stop the land cruiser when the engine was off. Although the land cruiser doesnt have accelerator pedal or brakes problem....

The Holly carby got stuck on FULL noise, I was only 18, BUT I had the sense to turn off the ignition!!!! Car came to a slow stop, no fancy tech shit, just brains and plenty of crap on the seat!!!! OH and guess what, I had a CABLE handbrake people, works a charm!!! I do believe they are still fitted!!!!

I can not believe that there are drivers out there that might even think that they can not stop their car if the gas pedal is blocked down. By the way one can also press the brake pedal to the floor even if the gas pedal is also to the floor and the car would also stop. Or something else: you can press the clutch pedal (for those ho drive a manual gear box car like I do) and then the acceleration pedal won't matter any more if its stuck or not, there would be no power transferred to the wheels.

@bogdan2501 I doubt that pushing the break to the bottom will stop you if the engine is pulling, normally the engine is much more powerfull than the breaks. So just go to neutral that will release the engine and you will slow down. Normal reaction is just push the clutch, what normally should also release the engine, I'm not familiar with Toyota prios, but I guess it will do as any other car.

@donnomar Car & Driver did an article on this, and they found that a 2010 Camry V6 will stop, AT FULL THROTTLE, AND FULL BRAKES @ 70 MPH in 190 feet In short, 2010 Camry V6, braking test 70-0 under NORMAL conditions in 170 feet. 2010 Camry V6 FULL THROTTLE 70-0 in 194 feet. 24 feet of difference. And for the record, if you did the math and converted braking force to horsepower the average brakes on a car would put out 2,000 horse power. The Prius should be better since it has no power at all.

@PlatinumRacing never seen the test, but anyway breaking and accelerating is very common situation when some people are learning to drive and guess what, very oftend they crash. However if the car is at full throttle and you break you will damage both breaks and engine, so please don't give alternatives when seting the car to neutral is the best option, no damage and safe. Moreover police reports said that the poeple who had the situation with the toyota tried to push the break with no result

@donnomar No damage, just brake wear. You may heat up and warp the rotors, but the engine will be fine. I'm not suggesting they stomp on the brakes instead of putting the car in neutral, I'm just suggesting it as a viable option. And if you go to Jalopnik and search the Toyota incident they published the NHTS findings. Only about 5 out of 40 people TRIED to hit the brakes. The rest were just plain uneducated, not surprising since we live in a country where people never change their oil.
