The only thing missing her perhaps is the usual slide displaying all the stores that are carrying this in our area (usually the discount, drug and hardware shops would offer this stuff seasonally).
My dad worked for Ron Popeil in the 1970s, we have tons of products in our basement all unused. I remember playing with this when i was younger, I had a blast.
@radiojunkie2006 Of course! This was also the era of cheesy commkercials for "Pearl Drops" ("mnmnmnmnmnm!") and Resses Peanut Butter Cups ("hey! you got chocolate in my peanut butter!" "You got peanut butter in my chocolate" and "Doublemint Gum"...
@frothydrink For the time (late 70s), this was REALLY sophisticated and a quite inexpensive alternative for the "professional" pickups that worked on the same principle. (Some drive-in theatres used the same principle - tune in to an unused FM radio band and play the sound through the then-new car FM radio.)
30 yrs from now their going to be saying the same thing about the crap entertaining us now. I grew up in the 70's and wouldn't have traded it for any other decade.
Nothing ruins "Deck the Halls" by airing it on one of Ronco's ads for lame products. Either "Santa Baby" or "I'm Getting Nothing for Christmas" would be better for Ronco ads.
Notice how the little monkey pulls the microphone from the human white boy (00:16). Good thing it wasn't a fried chicken leg. Probly woulda shot that white boy.Crazy little chimp.
:25 laughing my head off. ha ha ha ha! I do remember part of this commercial.. WE WERE UNDERPRIVILEGED kids.. we BEGGED for a mr microphone and never got one.
This is one Ronco product that could never have been sold in the UK in the late 70s. Low power FM transmitters where illegal until 2005 here. We got all the other Ronco products though, various cooking products, record cleaners, the Ronco records themselves of course.
Hahah, this commercial was a self-parody for sure, yet SCTV still managed to make a funny knock-off, "Mr. Boom Microphone." "Hey, why go out with THOSE losers with that TINY microphone, when we've got a big BOOM MIKE!"
I think I wrote at least one or two parodies of this myself back then, including one where the guy scatting and doing the funky walk got run down by a train.
Pineapple--It's "Radio Bart," season 3, episode 13, originally aired 1/9/92. Sting was a guest star, and they recorded "Sending Our Love Down the Well," a pardody of "We Are the World."
I agree. I wish it was the 1970's all over again. Does anybody recall what year this commercial first came out? I think it was 1978, and they kept running it every Christmas until '82 or '83.
This thing was real. I actually had one of these pieces of crap as a kid too. Its great...unless you get near the speaker or turn the volume up to any listenable level...FEEDBACK up the arse.
"Hey good looking, we'll be back to pick you up later!"
I bet she wasn't there when that goon went back to pick her up, after all, if she was that good looking, they would have thrown one of the people in the car out so the good looking person could get in!
As for the guy dancing, somebody's certainly taken too many happy pills! XD
Actually, yes, I did have one for awhile. It wasn't as fun as the commercial made it look since it didn't come with the accessories (the party, the car, the skates, etc.). Thanks for posting. Memories!
Lol reminds me of the simpsons episode when bart did that timmy o'tool with his mic
