@frothydrink For the time (late 70s), this was REALLY sophisticated and a quite inexpensive alternative for the "professional" pickups that worked on the same principle.  (Some drive-in theatres used the same principle - tune in to an unused FM radio band and play the sound through the then-new car FM radio.)

This is one Ronco product that could never have been sold in the UK in the late 70s. Low power FM transmitters where illegal until 2005 here. We got all the other Ronco products though, various cooking products, record cleaners, the Ronco records themselves of course.

Hahah, this commercial was a self-parody for sure, yet SCTV still managed to make a funny knock-off, "Mr. Boom Microphone." "Hey, why go out with THOSE losers with that TINY microphone, when we've got a big BOOM MIKE!"
