  • How do you say "I don't want to date men who don't appreciate my country " ?

  • @Frogetteful Ég vil ekki eiga í sambandi við menn sem kunna ekki að meta land mitt að sínum verðleikum. Or something like that.

  • @Rammsteinfreak93 Thanks, I just started learning Icelandic at evening school and found this video. You obviously had some horrible people saying terrible things to you. Fancy referring to food as "shit". This is so demeaning. So many people love Iceland, don't bother with those who don't.

  • damn!!skata actually means shit in greek :P:P

  • @pansatyros I'm not an Icelander, but I heard that you pronounce that letter (which is called a thorn) close to how you pronounce an English th sound. I hope this helps you.

  • Ah! I knew you looked familiar!! It was bugging me. Saw you at a couple Eistnaflugs. Anyway, I like this video. Too bad you're not doing them anymore...

  • @jevicci Oh really? Say hi next time :p

You can always inbox me with questions if you want to know something Iceland-related. Beside my cannot-be-bothered for making more videos, I broke my camera. So I won't be doing more of them.

  • @Rammsteinfreak93 you probably can't answer this question, but do you have any clue how a foreigner could find work in Iceland without knowing Icelandic but being fluent in English?

  • I'm trying to learn the grammar and cases before I study more Icelandic so I don't learn to say things the wrong way. What grammar is involved here? I noticed the "-ur". What case is it? etc...

  • @lecrapauddejerri9 The -ur ending usually indicates a nominative singular form of a masculine noun or adjective (the words "góður", "íslenskur", "matur", "skítur", and "selur" seen here are all examples of this). However, it could also be a nominative or accusative plural form of a feminine noun (not adjective, though). Furthermore, some verbs conjugate with a -ur ending in the 2nd and 3rd person singular (like "lítur" here). Those are the three main likely categories that I can think of.

  • @pansatyros It's very similar to the English pronunciation of "th" but a bit harder. Þetta = Thetta. It's not the exact sound, but it's definitely close enough.

  • fail.

  • Af hverju talaru eins og þú sért sjötug?

    ok sry þetta var mean

  • ég sé góða hæfileika í þína kunn átttu í ensku

  • Ertu eithvað þroskaheft?

  • Skata in Greek means shit,so may I say that skata tastes like shit?

  • I don't know why...but, you kind of freak me out alittle...? Maybe, it's your voice.

  • I did enjoy it very much! I love the way the language sounds. But I was both disturbed and sorry that person sent you very degrading comments to recite a Islensku.

  • I love icelandic, and the icelandic accent. Sigur Ros really got me into iceland..

  • yeah, I love it too ^^

  • Same :D

  • hvernig væri að læra tungumálin áður en þú ferð að tjá þig eitthvað um þetta á netinu :-)

  • Say Katelyn :]

  • Man? LMAO~!

  • :-(

  • HAHAHAHAHA

I cant believe I am learning how to pronounce Icelandic after 20 minutes of ever hearing icelandic!

the only thing I remember is

thu ert mjog fallegur (you are very beautiful *I think*)

  • Icelandic accents are kinda hot...

  • buckethead ásækja minn draumur

    how do you pronounce this?

  • ow-sike-ya. minn. drrrr oy(ish)-moo-er.

lol my very rough icelandic pronounciation..

  • I know a few icelandic words , þú mátt sjúga mig þurann, plol

  • gott að gera lítið úr sér

  • Hehe! For your information (and also how funny language resemblances can be), Skata in Greek means shit!

  • Hjálp!

Ég skilja ekki. "Það er ekkert *til* sem heitir..." Af hverjú segirðu "til", og hvað þyðir það án "til"?

I gave up studying Chinese to try and learn this bloody langugage. Considering how cheap Chinese beer is, I'm pissed!

Skata doesn't taste nearly as good as shit, but skýr, sviðæsulta and taðrekyt sild are fantastic (unless you mix them together). And hangikjöt. And pylsar með ollü. I'm getting hungry...

Worst "food" in Iceland: the hákarl they sell in 10-11.

  • The best translation of that is "nohing exists that's called..". If you don't say "til" it's just "there's nothing that's called..".

Hahaha clearly you have tasted some of our food x)

  • thanks,hun:-) I'm planning a trip to Europe, and a friend of mine said I should go, so I was brushing up on some Icelandic, but it would definitly make things easier knowing you speak english.

  • No problem, have fun in iceland ^^

  • just a couple questions.. What is a major city in Iceland, and Does everyone there speak English as well as Icelandic??

  • The only city in Iceland is Reykjavík, the capital. The others don't really count as cities, more as towns.

Most people younger than 30 speak English fluently. But it varies with older people. Nowadays English is taught in schools from the 5th grade, but it wasn't always like that.

  • look forward to learnin' icelandic.youto a messenger link ?i'll add u.

  • ok..... lol hvernig fékkstu þessa hugmind að gera þessi video :DDDDXXX ?

  • ég man það ekki lengur x)

  • How does one say something simple like "There is a man standing under a tree that is found in the garden of the large house down the road"? Just to get the flow/rhythm - also, could you pronounce it at normal speed and then word by word? You ROCK! :D

  • I'll do that in my next video. Thanks

  • See? Just from watching this video, I know that 'eins og' is Icelandic for the comparative 'like'. Brilliant!

  • youre all wrong Icelandic food is the best !!!

  • Oh Jesus!

Is there really a fish called Skata?? (and which tastes bad too...?)

    That's hilarious :P

  • Haha yes indeed. And honestly.. I havn't even tasted it 'cause it smells so damn badly when it's being cooked

  • There's this "patsas" food in Greece which is made by a sheep's stomach and it stinks too!

  • Haha okay

  • „sá við höfnina" is more correct then „sá í höfninni" but no worries, it's all right

  • Oh, oops, thanks for the correction

  • skata in greek actually means shit...

  • HAHAHAHA nice! XD

  • yeh, the only difference that the stretch goes to the second "a" (->σκατά)

anyway... I enjoy your vids cuz I like Icelandic very much! One of these days I'll order an icelandic newspaper to see the languge extended. It should be cool...
