  • I saw an Andy Glass video and he used this song for it. I always come upon the best songs like this...by finding them on various youtube videos.

  • ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

SHUT UP AND ENJOY THE MUSIC!

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

  • For fans of thrice's alchemy index ep's /watch?v=3Ne7VLlmDO4 :)

  • I love this song. It's the first one I heard from Thrice. God, I'm happy I found them.

  • Dustin is Christian but Thrice is not a Christian rock band in the slightest.

  • good song

  • why do rihanna, britanny spears, lady gaga and all those crappy rappers out there all have 50million+ views on most of their videos, and thrice had a good 2 at best... thrice is amazing, literally inspired me to play piano, bass, guitar, and drums. they are incredibly dynamic and are almost never repetitive, and when you listen to one of their songs all you want to do is press the replay button. all those mentioned above are exactly the opposite, they're crap have no musical gifts whatsoever.

  • @acslayder15 Chill man... Thrice is really awesome, I agree with what you said but, that doesn't mean that those artists don't have any musical gifts... Just think of it like this, God will never be the popular choice. Thrice is a "Christian" band and therefore, they won't be popular. Oh well!!! Just enjoy their freakin awesome music

    God Bless

  • @revan963963 Since when is Thrice a Christian band??????? Ever since Dustin realized he believed in God? Excuse me, but there are three other band members in this equation. Also, I really wish people would stop labeling my favorite bands

  • @evilillusionist I completely agree!!

  • Can we just enjoy the music and save religious discussion for a more suitable forum?

  • this song is amazinggggggggggg :D

  • Have your own opinion, fuck everyone else.

  • I'm sick of seeing people saying, "just listen to the music", as if searching for something deeper is pointless. If all we cared about in music were the vibrations that entered our head and the pleasure they gave us, in my opinion, that would be very disheartening and selfish of us. When a band such as Thrice, with such depth and passion and meaning behind their music is seen for nothing more than flashy riffs and sound, then I think we're listening for the wrong reasons.

  • @twistedbenjamin WELL Said my friend couldnt have said it better myself !!!!!

  • @twistedbenjamin This may be the greatest post I have ever seen on YouTube.

  • i have to wonder, i mean i really, really loved the alchemy indexes. but, most of their other stuff i can't really get into. . some of it is okay, but how did they make such MASTERPIECES and then not? these were some of the most amazing albums i've EVER listened to. they are fucking great. but why the different style here, suddenly? none of their other music really makes me as comfortable and soothed as these albums did. :'( THEY SHOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AGAIN! but just an indevidual's idea

  • this song is about perseverance.. very powerful message. \m/.

  • This song is beautiful, where everyone got religion out of it I will never know. It's very relaxing and I love it.

  • worshipping god through music i my fav. just sayin.

  • Dustin is Christian, and I believe he has a tattoo in hebrew. They frequently quote the bible as well as greek mythology, and modern books and movies. It doesn't mean they're a Christian band trying to convert you, it means they find enough meaning in these stories to share the messages because it is still relevant.

  • @SaveUsBTP word.

  • Forget politics and religion... just enjoy it- JUST ENJOY IT--- beautiful!

  • That 1 dislike should get Groin Punched!

  • Funny... Thrice can not only make Biblical references and Christian allusions, but actually quote from the Bible as "Moving Mountains", and people still can't seem to believe that someone as talented as the lead singer is Christian. Spoiler Alert: Christians are just as capable of making art as anyone else.

  • omg i sware i thought there wasn't music that any band could play that can be as mellow as this

  • whats that sigh mean on the image?

  • Thrice writes in a religious tense but in no way are they a Christian band. The one thing I've ever grasped from religion is that certain verses hold a universal meaning to the ways of life and I think that this is what Thrice means to do when making religious references.

  • Open Water - Favorite song for Water. No doubt.

  • how does religion and sexuality get brought up on this?

just listen to the damn song -.-"

  • @RaptorSeaan im sick of seeing people argue when they find out one or more members of a band believe in something.. but wait.. sexuality? lol weird.. lol

  • @RaptorSeaan because dustin is an open christian.

talking about your faith on youtube is the dumbest thing.

  • @RaptorSeaan Because they are a Christian band worshipping God.

  • @RaptorSeaan Dustin's main influence is Christianity/ Philosophy/ Universal truth and conflict, so religion is very closely tied.I don't think they'd be as influential of a band if their lyrics weren't so meaningful and inspiring. They'd be a great instrumental band, possibly the best, but their art would go no further than the act of creating sound. Thrice is more than a band, more than sound, so I recommend you listen with more than your ears. In my opinion you ought to listen with your heart.

  • @RaptorSeaan Christian band is why.

  • @RaptorSeaan agreed

  • @RaptorSeaan why can't people discuss the meaning of a song they like? stop telling people what to do

  • @RaptorSeaan because the lyrics can be taken as spoken

to god in the chorus (give and take away). Religion is important

to some people and it permeates everything in their life,

including music. They ARE listening to the song, which is why

they are bringing forward their ideas.

  • Anyone else confused about the two top rated comments?

  • @Immafishstick :D not anymore

  • @Immafishstick thumbs up for confusion, yeaaaa

  • @Swigbeast22 heh now its just ironic... considering the two top rated now make even less sense!

  • @Immafishstick only because Thrice is God should be top comment.

  • @Immafishstick Not anymore. I'm just wondering about one and confused about the other, grats :|

  • the lyrics sound like an analogy for mental illness...

  • Words can not express how amazing I think this song is. I wish more people new about this incredible band.

  • i listened to this song for the first time during my first mushroom trip in san francisco.

it literally changed my life. this ep made me a better person because of hearing it on shrooms.

  • sounds like your listening to it underwater.

    yeah. its that epic

  • As a new fan of Thrice I can only say, if you could do more then listen to music. I f you could feel it, breathe it , taste it, and somehow become a part of it then listening to these songs is the closest I have come to it. Thank you Thrice, I just got infused with your music and it's nothing short of amazing.

  • This song reminds me of some of Robert Louis Stevenson's short stories. Particullary the Bottle Imp.

  • I can't begin to describe how I feel when I listen to this song.

  • Sometimes, when I listen to music, I can feel the song, literally in my skin. This one sends chills everywhere, I'm floating. It makes me want to just float away and disappear. This song needs to go on forever. The abysmal seas are calling.

  • incredible song... it makes you really feel how huge and expansive the ocean is and how small we are compared to it. i feel really tranquil and at peace listening to it.

  • I grew up listening to thrice, i love how their music has matured, they get better with every album.

  • @BkMcBurgerPants: You come in here, and begin throwing insults and degrading a plethora of views of the world as if you personally watched your god create all of existence. Get out, or shut up, or both, whatever it doesn't matter.

But, think of it like this. Nowhere in the Bible does it EVER list a year count since God Created the Planet. Nor, does it say that God isn't a Primate. For all you know, God could be some Omnipotent Single-Cell organism. I'd go further into this, but I'm out of room

  • Actually, i think i will go a bit further in depth.

First off: The Big Bang, simplified considerably for your ignorant mind, is the sudden ignition of the sun, which causes an explosion, that creates the ball of fire our pitiful, minute dust-speck of an existence revolves around. Through this explosion, the entirity of existence begins to spin around and around, inside of this, bigger particles attract smaller particles, which begin to clump together and meld into massive Rocks [c]

  • These rocks, after some great monsterous length of time, finally begin to cool. But, due to several smaller sized rocks speeding at higher velocities due to their lack of weight to hold them in place, they slam into others, creating massive craters in the rocks, while reducing their speed to a minimal proportion. This is the creation of the planets and their moons. Through thousands of years of growth, from single celled organisms to those which are extinct, the world as we know it came [c]

  • into being. These bacterium, through evolving to fit their ecosystems and climates, become the first plants and animals, and eventually continue evolving to suit their climates and ever changing world surrounding them. Eventually, the first primate comes around. Basically, over the course of these Billions of years, the planets are created, organisms develop, and change, and continue changing, and continue changing until BAM! here we are..... Thats the summed up version of Big Bang and Evolution

  • @Tasferin haha reading your comments with the music playing is epic. good job on explaining the big bang and evolution.

  • This song gives me chills every time I listen to it.

  • @Horhey17 It gives me butterflies

  • @Horhey17 Me too.

  • This song embodies the feelings kept in my soul since i was a child.

  • one cannot help but to be consumed by and lost in this song. These lyrics are the kind that reach deep into the heart and squeeze out all emotion.

  • @jwilliamsoneoone into a cup and let you drink them back in as you please

  • @BKMcBurgerPants 1. Gravity is a law, not a theory. 2.so are you saying you think gravity doesn't exist? because last time i checked gravity is what was stopping your big air head from floating off into space. You're arguments make no sense.

  • @mooshmoosh123 Haha awsome.

  • if you guys are gonna argue. Then please take it into private messages. KTHXBAI

  • 129 people are starting to believe the ocean's much like you.

  • @BKMcBurgerPants... you must be joking riiight?? you really can't be thaat stupid can you? when did you last go to school???

  • I hate liberals and their science, logic, numbers and facts. It's all about faith. You say the world is 6 BILLION years old! That's more than a million! If it's that old, why is it only 2010?

Then you come up with all this evolution bullcrap, that it takes millions of years for monkeys to evolve into humans. Uhhhh, funfact! Monkeys don't live that long!

And I love how you atheists say the bible isn't real. Why am I holding one then! Intellectual CHECKMATE!!!

  • @BKMcBurgerPants Take a biology class and learn how evolution really started before you start bashing athiesm.

  • @mooshmoosh123

I took biology class, and all evilution is is that we were born from monkeys! My parents, and their parents, and their parents were not monkeys. I don't know where you get your THEORIES from. You know what else is a theory? GRAVITY! Do you see how your argument is completely flawed?

You are close minded, and obviously not very intelligent. What is athiesm? That's like me saying "stop bashing Krischianitee". However, I know God wouldn't allow me in heaven with poor grammer,

    FAIL!

  • @BKMcBurgerPants Right... Its 4.6 billion years old, it has not, however, been inhabitable since such a date.. Nor has mankind existed since then. 2010 is simply how long its been recorded. The Bible is an amazing piece of fiction. Are you honestly this stupid or are you just a troll? I'm thinking troll.

  • @Simplenamelol Are you saying we were created by a Big Bang? Next time I blow up a brick, we'll see if all the little pieces turn into planets and stars.

    Retard.

  • I think, that this is the wrong place to discuss that stuff.

You have the right to believe, what you want, but you have to let others believe in, what they want to believe in... You are just canting...

  • @BKMcBurgerPants Next time you blow up a brick?

  • @Ryanswave661 Yeah, will all the debris turn into stars and planets? It's essentially the big boom.

If you don't have anything intellectual to say, why do you even bother?

  • @BKMcBurgerPants You are an angry person, and i was wondering if you have blown up a brick before, you made it sound like you have.

  • @BKMcBurgerPants

You shouldn't use the word intellectual ;)

you intellectually checkmated yourself, by using arguments that have no rhyme or reason ;)

  • @No0ne666 agreed...BKMcBurgerPants used like 5 logical fallacies in his arguments...this is what happens when you criticize without respecting others opinion. It's very hard to do without getting emotional and introducing logical fallacies

  • Roughly based on job 1:21

    song gives me chills

  • This song rules, one of their best. I also love Wood & Wire. Any other sugestions?

  • @crotchrot31 the great exchange

  • @PaperWeightPigs

Thanks, I will check it out!

  • "Ten thousand men go down with davy jones... " It seems as if the ocean is eternal, alive, and immortal.

  • ryanlay1 you are a gay bastard

  • you all do know that Dustin Kensrue became a christian like a few months before releasing this album? of course the lyrics are christian-based.

  • Sorry, people call Thrice a christian band because they have some nice Lyrics in their rock songs? Eh? Now I like Symphony of Destruction as much as anyone, but just 'cos the lyrics are peaceful, and optimistic rather than dooming the world in an ill-fated attempt to raise hell doesen't make the songs bad, just makes them different. I'm not Christian, but if you're such a bat eating-hell raising-raping-murdering-cold blooded-devil worshipper that you can't enjoy a nice song, go shag Satan.

  • @TheNeutralFan Come on, one character left. I could be a journalist, but for my random outbursts of Political Corretness. Maybe I could still write for the Sun?

  • @TheNeutralFan And my spelling

  • Thrice does it! And I can"t help but offer my genuine assistance as to why there seems to be a christian undertone..... its cuz there is. Try to quit "seeing" with your "eyes" and you might really see something. Wake up and be blessed.

  • who cares if he's religiouse or not, the lyrics he comes out with are amazing i for one would wish to be able to rite the lyrics he dus, i dont belive in god but if he dus i dont giv two fucks thrice makes excellent music thats all we should see about them not dig into there personal life, fucking hate fans who reseach artisits lifes up leave them to have a free life :P and injoy what they create

  • @nowarning666 Agreed.

  • Some songs that are biblically based are Music Box, Like Moths to Flame, Of Dust of Nations, Image of the Invisible, The Great Exchange, In Exile, The Messenger, Firebreather, For Miles...the list goes on and on.

  • Okay, I seriously don't get it. Why are all of the Thrice vids' comment sections filled with die-hard Christians?

  • @ISeeWhatYouDidThere7

Well, the band has never actually labeled themselves a Christian band, however, Dustin...and I believe Teppei are both Christians. If you look up their lyrics, you will find biblical references or at least ideals in most of their songs. I actually spoke with him after a concert a couple months ago, and he made references to G.K. Chesterton, a Christian writer.

  • so much better with headphones! :)

  • who cares what this song is "about"? honestly guys, it's all about what YOU get out of it.

  • @bigboyluv22

very few of Dustin's songs are to have personal take on it.

his lyrics have meaning and purpose for the majority of songs. This one is a little more open--but Dustin often references the ocean/bodies of water as expansive as God--so known but unknown at the same time.

I'll be welcome to speak with you more about some of the songs if you want to converse, because many are biblically based or Christ/God/Church writing--God Bless.

  • Wow, I'm going to have to buy this album! Also, why is every comment on this video about religion?

  • @WHATAQUEER prophets wrote the bible you moron

  • @Hideo1313 Exactly. People. But good luck trying to argue with someone who's convinced everyone who doesn't share the same beliefs is wrong.

  • @WHATAQUEER mankind.

  • @WHATAQUEER ya mam

  • What is the point of online bashing? Instead of making arbitrary and baseless insults, why not just sit back and just enjoy the song?

  • Yay..more religious debates on youtube! When are you all going to learn? Have you ever said to yourself "Oh hey that random person is right. Im going to quit/start believing!" I doubt it. What is the point..what do you get out of not changing anyones mind..at all?

  • you may save a soul. If Christians believe there is a heaven and a hell, and that people who don't believe in Christ are going to hell, then it IS loving to tell someone the truth despite any rejection or persecution they may receive or how much the other person may hate it. If you're an atheist, you should still understand that proselytizing is love... because hate would be NOT telling you the truth, that you could receive eternal life instead of death. God Bless

  • No no. I get it. I'm just saying that online (youtube of all places) is not the place to do it. I'm a believer. But I just don't understand the point.

  • @Bl4ckM4gic037

Paul said to preach in-season, out-of-season...

Sorry, I disagree... Christians should be talking about it all the time to anyone they can, no matter the venue.

  • K? Disagree..I don't care. It's not my worry what you do or not.

  • @Bl4ckM4gic037

ah but there's the issue BlackMagic, I care about you and what you do.

As a Christian, sharing the gospel is part of your duty, no matter if anyone hates you or not. We have a lukewarm church today that is afraid to confront sinners and tell them to repent... and if you want to know what happens to lukewarm Christians, you only have to read Jesus' words in REvelations 3:14-22

  • I'm a believer I said. Not a Christian. My heart is in the hands of God...not in the fumbled hands of men and their religion.

  • The chorus and the lead-in to it is just overwhelming.

    Amazing song.

  • i think religion is a conspiracy and a hoax, most of it has brung us nothing but rascism, war and other brutal teachings

  • Religion is a conspiracy and so are the text books given to us in school. From the moment of conception we are instil with traditions that have led us away from the foundation of our existance. Though. Truth remains. Truth is from Torah and the prophets(Scriptures a.k.a the bible). Its the only "religion" document that holds prophecy. The issue is many call themselves believers, but aren't able to walk according to Truth because they dont let go of their many sentimental valued pagan traditions.

  • @nukedaboy

Religion, imo, is just spirituality all dressed up the way that some people want it to be. That's how you get insane stuff like two different groups of Christians thinking the opposite party is goin to hell b/c of a few different religious practices. Spirituality, by itself, is good stuff.

    And this song is amazing.

  • @nukedaboy i know its your own opinion on religion, but i dont think religion itself has brought war, racism, etc. its the people who practice religion and make extreme interpretations of the teachings of those religions that has brought these misfortunes. just my view

  • @nukedaboy finally! someone who gets my feelings towards religion!

  • @nukedaboy brung? haha, your cred just left. might want to go chase it.

  • @nukedaboy I Lol'd at your reasoning and then I read your account name...

  • @nukedaboy

so has communism, humanism, materialism, atheism. which brings you to realize that people are just evil, no matter what their ideology

  • Yeah too bad God doesn't exist.

  • Too bad nobody cares what you think.

  • Obviously enough for you to reply.

    Wake up.

  • This song is hauntingly amazing. I think Kensrue is some sort of lyrical prodigy. I'm just listening to this song and hearing one very tortured existence: The ocean terrifies this speaker, but it's the only thing that makes him feel anything (presumably since the loss of a loved one) Now he sails...almost taunting the sea to take his life...Maybe that's an incredibly dark reading, but I think this song is amazing.

  • He is a lyrical genius... he gets his inspiration from God and the Bible...

God is like the Open Water... He gives and He takes away... this is in reference to the story of Job as far as I know.

*I'm starting to believe the ocean is much like You, cause it gives and it takes away*

  • thta was a horrible reply kid. the first part was good but the way you ended it.......... dude...

  • ....dude.... (I'm not a kid)

obviously you don't know anything about Dustin's lyrics, about the Bible, or God...

I'd urge you to look into them a little more, it's what this song is about... and it's even more apparent Dustins sings about God/Christ in the last 3 albums than ever before...

If you wish to discuss it, we can...because I can show you without a doubt what Dustin refers to in the Bible to a *T*...

    later ..dude..

  • @ryanlay1 Yes, Kensrue really is a lyrical genius. If you look at the lyrics from their "First Impressions" album, which he wrote when he was 18 or 19, you could already see that the guy really has an amazing talent. The depth to their music and lyrics...they are the most relevant band to come out in the last decade, in my opinion.

  • @ryanlay1

You're right that Dustin's an amazing lyricist, he spends hours on them. Interesting idea, but Dustin wrote this song specifically about exploring the infinite and awesome wonders of exploring the heart of God. Psalm 42 - Deep calls to deep. (another translation is chaos calls to chaos) My soul pants for God, we need God, relationally, but that doesn't make him safe. He is a living God and lives on his own terms. Dustin loves Christ and all of his lyrics honor him.

  • @ryanlay1 amazing interpretation. I totally agree.

  • @ryanlay1 there certainly something is romantic and haunting about the open sea, dark and deep and able to swallow us up

  • @ryanlay1 Wow. I bet you have seen the inside of many lockers, and pulled many pairs of hanes out of your asscrack. just kidding, this is a damn good song though

  • @ryanlay1 Get real

  • @ryanlay1 you gave me chills bro

  • @Mainstreetshow9:

What? I didn't really understand a word of that, I'm sorry... And you spelled intelligence and crucifix wrong... Just to let you know.

Anyways, I love these guys so much. I found out about them via one of Brand New's pages, and thank goodness I did find out about them. I love this band.

  • as brooklynbuZz said, this song had captured my heart.

  • @HEYkidILOVEYOU the whole band captured my heart long time ago....!

  • our existance on the fire of intellagence shows that the reason for creation makes no sense. When the world said i crusifix myself to the sun, the world rovolves around us. If god was an animal he may have been salyed or tortured, Let his depression and light shine into the future of scientific intellegance, together

    existance forever.
