  • I've never heard anything like this. So beautiful

  • Im practicing Sanka right now for the competition in summer...

    so please subscribe :D

  • Fantastic beauty! Can anyone tell me please, what is the best city to buy a Koto? I am visiting Japan in the summer. Thank you!

  • @subshrub I live in Japan, and play koto.

I think Fukuyama in Hiroshima is where most of the kotos are made, but you can buy it anywhere in Japan so just go anywhere you want

  • She is a very excellent musician and composer.

  • hell yeah! rip that koto!! up!

    thats one jamming out granny..

  • wow that looks like a tough instrument to play. Kudos;))

  • beautiful <3

  • What's the name of this song??

  • Hi! I love this song but can't find where to purchase it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing!

  • @ladymandarin Hi, I researched for you. Go to website classicsonline, search sawaitadao and select asia music. You can find sanka there.

  • @ladymandarin

type in "Sanka" and "Falconer" at .amazon. for 99cents. Sawai Kazue's version is avail. at some UK site for about $50 and you have to buy the whole cd.

  • WOW!

  • Such a beautiful piece, can anyone point me in some direction to more koto music on youtube like this? Thank you

  • Now I'm not sure which I like more, this or the shamisen. Probably shamisen since I'm a guitar player but still this is like, beyond mystical what it sounds like you can do with a koto

  • it does feel the same to me. the sound and the feeling you get when you pluck a string of the koto is beyond words to me

  • beautiful! brilliant! *****

  • Es mágico, pero me han dicho que cuesta por lo menos un millon de las antiguas pesetas.

    Thanks.

  • Search for "Kazue Sawai on Tour from Japan" to get a 40 minute vide of Sawai.

  • Is there anywhere where this recording can be found/purchased?

  • It`s fascinating in eastern music that "harmony" isn`t a factor in music...melody and rhythm only......in some ways this seems more spiritual and complex....

  • @hoty1957 when playing the koto, there is actually a lot of harmonization. for example, when learning to pluck two strings at once, you do it in harmony eg. 2 and 7, or 3 and 8. (referring to the string numbers)

I don't think it isn't that they don't harmonize, i think it's that the scale in hirajoshi tuning is different and an acquired taste for someone brought up listening to western music. also, if you listen to other eastern music, eg chinese, there scale sounds less alien. ah NoMoreChars

  • A virtuoso koto player!

    Impressive and convincing

  • wonderful!

  • I dont think she is the best. i sawai hikaru is better because he actully composed songs. But sawai tadao is the legend of koto mucisian

  • Excuse me??? Kazue sensei composes ALL her songs except when she interprets classical pieces or occasionally foreign songs.

Of course, she also keeps her late husband's (Tadao) music alive by playing it as in this piece.

BTW Tadao Sawai is one of the two greatest 20th c. koto composers, the other being Michio Miagi.

Her son, Hikaru, learned everything from his mom... his unique approach is due to his heavy metal influence.

  • I know. i wrote this comment 1 or 2 years ago.

and i actully met sawai and hikaru tadao. i know that hikaru is in a heavy metal band and Jousho no katana and yumeno wa are awsome.so i know you replied to this but it was a long time ago. so dont go mad. and i am a mucisian. 13

  • @japonaliya Yatsuhashi Kengyo is the greatist composer

  • @japonaliya you're excused, douche bag

  • @japonaliya Im sorry i was stupid and naive that time :]

  • @scarydead

Weird, because Hiaru Sawai is her son, and learned everything from his Mum.

  • great koto playing!

  • how about the whole video of this performance? she's awesome!:D

  • Search for "Kazue Sawai on Tour from Japan" to get a 40 minute vide of Sawai.

  • how about the whole video of this performance? she's awesome!:D

  • She's such an incredible musician. You can just hear the soul!

  • amazing, whats that thing called?

  • The instrument? It's called the Koto.

  • This piece is called Sanka. Unfortunately I can't find a recording of it anywhere... can anyone help?

  • in this music, its sound like piano and harp in one instrument xD

  • yup..agreed

  • wow... this brings up alot of different emotions, it's like you can feel the pain that she has when her husband passed away but then there are parts where it seems as though she's thankful... after all "Sanka" is a song of praise... VERY BEAUTIFUL

  • i agree with u...and i really liked this song, it gave me time to relax...and thanks for posting, japonaliya...

  • that was awesome! thanks for posting:)

  • What is this song called?

  • WOW it's beautiful I can't wait to start playing myself now.

  • theres a really bad koto wich produces bad sounds and good ones that produces lovely sounds

  • think i'll stick to drums!!

  • how much does one of those coast and where can i get one at

  • koto, you can always search ebay, or google koto for sale. you can find student and entry level kotos on ebay for less than 1000. professional to concert grade like her's range between 2800 to 10, 000 USD.

  • AMAZING!

  • A Virtuoso!

    Wow!

  • holy shit! she's my new freakin idol!!!!

ima try to play as awesome as her now. =])

  • What an amazing piece. The passion she pours into the performance from the love poured into the composition by her late husband. True love. She must miss him so very much, I know I would, every time I play his songs I would remember him and all the events in our lives together, but mostly ofcourse focusing on the positive energy, and the joy! Wow, this has moved me that much... Thank you again for the post.
