  • а что за песенка играет?

  • just get bloody windows

  • Comment removed

  • YOUTUBECEPTION!!!

  • thanks windows 7 MAY BE THE COOLEST

  • @bossrdt Sir, this is really Linux. I do not make fake videos. Ever. I don't see how you could believe that after watching the video that this is simply windows 7 with some tweaks.

  • @bossrdt you sure sound educated... lol...

real top tier computer users Rock with linux..

    good work on this..

  • so which is better ubuntu or mint? plz reply!!

  • @TheMitsaras98 Mint is good to start with because it has the "codecs" installed already. In case you are not familiar, codecs are the little pieces of code that allow the playback of media files (for example mp3s dont play on Ubuntu by default) so Mint is a solid choice :)

  • @HalomasterObi1177 ok, thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMitsaras98 mint and ubuntu are only different in very minimal ways. Mint has a slightly different appearance setup and has a few things already set up that Ubuntu doesn't. I recommend mint for you. (Oh, and don't get mint debian edition just yet, it's a little more complicated)

  • @TheMitsaras98 mint is better for beginners but ubuntu has more flexibility after you get some experience.

  • @TheMitsaras98 The other response to your comment wasn't fair. Ubuntu gives the option to install all of those during installation, so his argument is invalid, ubuntu is more widely used, so has more support, it has unity desktop by default, but like other distro's can install other desktops.

It's hard to say, but i'd personally go to ubuntu to start... there's a reason it's the most popular distribution of linux out there...

  • @TheMitsaras98 it realy depends on what you want to start with ubuntu is less full but the dis advantage is it has less

mint is based on ubuntu so theres no tech or major speed differences but it has flash,mp3,and multimedia and ofcourse effects

you can make kbuntu, ubuntu, mint, or my fave opensuse kde (has effects biult in and is prety fast on my netbook

in the end its realy your chois

  • @TheMitsaras98 I like the gnome ui of mint better, but you can achieve that in ubuntu 11.04 or earlier

  • @thatguy30000 do you mean 10.10 or earlier?

  • the song is sick!

  • this work with mint 12?

  • Why ? That is like making a Lamborghini look like a VW thing.

  • NO, W7 LOOK LIKE KDE. EVERYBODY KNOW IT.

  • haha FAIL !

  • the music? name it please .D

  • @weeabou The song in the background is Drowning Pool "Tear Away" :)

  • @LinuxTheBestOs I'm not any of these, and i still think the design of WIndows XP sucks.

  • All new Windows edition have something copy from Linux or another GNU program..

  • WIIIIINDOOOOOOOOOOOOWSSSSS SUUUUUUUUUUCKSSS!!!

  • 1:14 wondering why ABP doesn't block your youtube ads o.O

  • @flohuels It was an older version and I didn't enable the video ad block. I have since found that option :)

  • The possibilities with Linux are so endless. Linux never ceases to amaze me. I run it at my primary operating system for any computer I don't use for gaming. I tried using Linux as a gaming OS, but Wine just isn't good enough for my needs. :(

  • @LinuxTheBestOs

For an opinionative person, not an artist.

No one person sees things the same way.

  • Believe it or not, I setup a win7 look under a 'guest' account on my computer for people (mainly family members) who aren't familiar with Linux. If they borrow my laptop, I'd rather not deal with the gripes and have them just use the computer in a fashion that is familiar to them. They already use Chrome and Open Office, so it is hardly a stretch. Silly, yes - but, just goes to show the power of Linux.

  • @alyosha1974 Wow, that is a great idea. I would totally do that, had I not converted my family already...lol

  • @HalomasterObi1177 That's funny ... the whole Linux conversion effort. For the most part, I have had great success (about 8 people). My parents, however, have a hard enough time with computers in general. So, it's K.I.S.S. :) Great video, BTW. In spite of what others say, I love seeing people tweaking Linux any which way - even to mimic Windows. It gets the creative juices flowing. Thanks, for the video.

  • @alyosha1974 I take no credit for these tweaks, I just wanted to share :)

  • @alyosha1974 yeah except linux cant do shit with exe files and wine is shit :S mint is pretty good though i have it on one pc but the constant grapple with having to go back on windows to use certain files is just annoying...

  • @TehMidasTouch I feel you. Also, I never had luck with Wine. I use Mint for everything, except making videos and heavy duty office documents (I use Movie Maker and Office). For simple letters and spreadsheets, Libre Office works. Frankly, I just find MS Office more polished at the moment and easier to use.

  • Drowning Pool cool [:-)

  • LOL, rubbery effect

  • @JayFeliceW Linux isn't an operating system, it's a kernel, around which many operating systems have been built. And you cannot say that Linux is ugly based off one distro. Like I have said to many people, the ones who hate Linux are the ones who've never used it, or tried and failed to use it.

  • @rayyanputra thanks dude..... :D

  • Nice one, hope you fooled your friends good :P Mint is a wicked OS

  • right when i clicked on the video i said screw it ill just

    hear the song

  • open ¨exe¨ files with wine (TIP)

  • What a moronic idea, it's like disguising your girlfriend like a dude. If you like Windows so badly, why not use it?

  • @jesuisbenjamin I did this to show how "tweakable" Linux was and to trick my friends into thinking I was running Windows :)

  • @jesuisbenjamin Who said they like Windows? People who have never stepped outside of Windows don't have anything to compare it to, and can't see that its a vulnerable, unsecured, regurgitated OS in flashy clothes. Put those same clothes on a mature and secured OS, and its the best of both worlds.

  • @jesuisbenjamin because winblows is slow compared to linux ,but some people think windows looks better, . well think so compared to the stock lxde or a distro such as mint

  • @jesuisbenjamin what a moronic idea, to use windows because of how it looks! Windows is a crappy unstable OS, so if you're familiar with it and don't know anything about linux, the better is to start using linux looking like windows and bye bye blue screens!!!

  • Ylmf OS looks like XP too.

  • I prefer the Linux original look.

  • do how does that effects work??? any keys to be pressed.....

  • @Ateeq72 ctrl + alt + mouse left click

  • jelly windows and cubes is waste of good code

  • @pwd3679 Yeah but it sure does look cool :)

  • I don't hate MS. I do, however take issue with the restrictions they place on my freedom. My operating system is mine, to change and adapt any way I chose, and share without restriction to benefit the community. It's a different paradigm, not merely a few technical issues. Don't use GNOME 3 yet. It is evolving fast (according to the feedback from the community). I use GNOME 2, which for me is a lean, powerful and functional desktop system. Did I mention it's free?

  • I know Linux is suppose to be a beautiful and user friendly but when you make it look like Windows 7 it makes ppls want to know why not just duel boot with windows 7 and deal with it...

  • @cmb271 they are attempting to appeal to windows users & coax them into at least trying it. But it's nice to know that there is alternative with a low learning curve.

  • Too much hate on MS. From the visual perspective, MS does have a big R&D, so why not imitate them in appearances?

From PCLinuxOS to Mandriva to Mint, I always try to make my desktop look like Vista/Win7 because they look good (how can they not when MS has to serve millions of users?).

Only from Mint 9 onward that the appearances and fonts were on par with window world that I no longer need to install vistalook or other vista/win7 look-a-likes.

Hate on MS but do acknowledge their big R&D.

  • If you want an OS that looks like Win 7, use Win 7. If you want an OS that is powerful, functional and fun, use something else like Linux. Why do these Linux video reviews use music that sounds like the Borg with a concussion?

  • @va7mn Must be that powerful, functional, and fun audio system in Linux.... I won't go into the lack of function Gnome 3 brings to the table.

I wish folks who recommend Linux alternatives could actually back up some of their claims about Linux/shell of choice vs. Windows. I sit here still befuddled as to why the Gnome team thought auto-hide was an unnecessary feature for a 16:9 screen filled world.

    Fail.

  • Im want to make windows 7 look like linux !!!!!!!

  • I'd rather Windows 7 look like Mint than vice versa. LINUX MINT BABY!!!

  • meh, why make linux look like an inferior system

  • this is just an observation. do you noticed that most YouTube videos in Linux that's screen recorded on Ubuntu can also be seen in 720p HD?

  • Mint is so much more bautiful than win7 =)

I can see why you did this tho ;)

  • Linux is the ugliest operating system ever. It's not a shock that people would rather it look like Windows or a Mac. It's also not a fun operating system because it doesn't have enough support. You can't play pc games on it for the most part, the newer games. It's just freaking lame. The only plus about having linux on a machine is that you can go to porn websites without worrying that you get a virus.

  • @JayFeliceW lol i agree with you on its lack of games. i guess it is for nerds/serious/people who wanna get work done!

  • @dondopa Lack of games? Battlefield, Call of Duty, Crisis, Left 4 Dead, Quake 4, Doom 3, Modern warfare 3, that isn't enough? pfft. Learn a little linux before you make a false statement like this lol

  • @ruinairas FYI i am using Linux Ubuntu 10.10. i am not talking about those shitty tic-tac-toe games nor games that are originally made for windows but emulated with WINE(like the ones you just listed). i am talking about games that are actually fun and are natively built for Linux. i heard about some fairly good games like tremulous, Open Arena and Urban Conflict but they are just a handful and for only one genre, First Person Shooting. Wine doesn't work 100% with everything!

  • @JayFeliceW Most Windows applications can be run in Linux. Every single game I've tried to play worked fine in linux. Even crisis 2. The support for Linux is growing rapidly, Nvidia, Intel, ATI, HP, and Dell are of the BIG companies supporting Linux now. Microsoft is losing its grip of the monopoly they've managed to hold for so long.

  • @JayFeliceW finally someone that talks some sense. Linux GUI has been a poor ripoff of Windows interfaces. Ubuntu is even more horrific; usability!? Mac OS X still is the bomb.

  • @JayFeliceW in five to ten years no one cares what brand of OS is running anyway. As more and more apps become cloud based. --> Chrome OS/ Chrome Book / Chrome Web Store - the operative system as we know it may end up incognito.

  • how about Zorin OS? it uses Windows 7 theme.

  • This defeats the purpose of having linux.Linux has a unique look unlike windows..

  • is there possible to make linux opening apps like windows? (on the panel shortcut icon) I have tried replacing panel with dock, but I didn't like it. And I don't want my panel to look like win7, I want only functionality, because working with many apps and windows opened becomes messy.

    Please PM if any advice

  • @walentaz I will look into it, I think there was a similar app that had that feature. I will double check and get back with you.

  • @HalomasterObi1177 I would also like a confirmation on this :)

  • @walentaz have you tried dockbarX?

  • @walentaz Better luck with KDE

  • Might look like it but wont play games like it so that sucks.

  • you have only 2 CPu's

so that means you got a Dual Core CPU.

    thats not weird thats normal.

  • @nargarothfreak666 No means you have 2 cores. not 2 cpu's........* YOU: omaigod he is the smart guy!*

  • @iXecFTW

ookey explain me than what Core is:P

i mean a core is the same as a CUP Central processor Unit.

in a short word it is basicly the same.

    Cheers!

  • @lfwpfr509 I actually already bought a MBP 2011... and I am just ten by the way.

  • or you just instal Windows 7 :)

  • Hey your name is Ethan too! You're awesome!

  • @EpikEthan Thanks, you are awesome too! I actually have a good friend who's name is also Ethan...lol Ethan has been one of the top ten baby names for the past few years too, so more awesomeness on the way!

  • @HalomasterObi1177

How many ram you have, cpu? (ghz), and internet speed, because YouTube so slowly open. please answer

  • @Dzikusektv At the time that this video was made, I owned a HP dv9000 which had 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, an AMD dual core 1.7GHz CPU and my internet was only 1MB/second Download and about 0.5MB/Second Upload. It was an entertainment style laptop so it had a better graphics card in it as well. It was an Nvida integrated graphics.

Is it only slow when you are surfing the internet? Or is it slow even when you are doing other tasks, such as typing a word document?

  • Good joke!

  • @DmdWasserTanzt It depends on how much effort you plan on putting into it, your hardware, and whether or not you install proprietary drivers or not. I've seen a video of someone on Linux playing Crysis 2 on WINE without any glitches, errors, and only a slight speed reduction, and Crysis 2 is most resource-consuming game out there. That said, it depends on your hardware. Linux supports almost all hardware but Proprietary drivers are normally superior.

  • I like Linux but this wobble-effect of the windows is just over the top for me. Its like trying hard to be as "cool" as windows ;)

  • seeing the family guy pick on ubuntu overview or sumthin made me switch on version guessing about 8.04

  • Ubuntu straight up is better than Linux Mint. For some reason, more hardware features work on Ubuntu, like the touchpad on my laptop.

  • Windows look in a Linux System? And a Windows Button? Shame on you! I don't know why people like the windows look, especially if you can use KDE or Gnome

  • @MetalheadBuser I did it to mess with my friends who are linux haters... they were so confused...lol

  • @HalomasterObi1177 A good answer.. =)

  • @MetalheadBuser I think it's just the fact they can do it. Gives a weird sense of satisfaction. I remember the gold of days of patches to make windows xp "Look" like Windows vista....

  • What a pity, that there is no Polish Language. I'm not the only one using this Computer.

  • @DmdWasserTanzt

    Better Mint, I'm always using.

    I'm think it best.

  • @DmdWasserTanzt mint for sure

  • Why use a lookalike when you can get the REAL THING!

    (lol @ linux fanboys)

  • That's really neat... but why would you want it to look like Windows...? Linux is way better... :)

  • @DmdWasserTanzt

I haven't really used mint, but I've been a long-time Ubuntu fan and from what I've heard, they're EXTREMELY similar, except that Ubuntu is MUCH MUCH MUCH better supported and generally more beginner friendly. But seriously, most software websites have an Ubuntu download link and sometimes a Fedora link or something like that, but you never see Mint... so I think mint is pretty but not a lot of support... well, honestly, Mint uses the apt so maybe you could use the Ubuntu links.

  • @DmdWasserTanzt @DmdWasserTanzt Yes you can, however I personally have not attempted it. There are a few tools and whatnot to make it easier. If you wish to try it out the program isnt "Whine" but is actually called "Wine". Also a good program to help do it can be found here

    playonlinux (DOT) com

There are also a lot of Linux games that dont need wine as well :)

Check out the Youtube Profile for "LinuxNativeGaming" and you will see some cool ones :)

  • Linux doesnt need to "look" nice.... it is good as it is. console only is awesome. besides ubuntu theme is enough! (only thing i dont like are too big fonts and everything taking my space up. on windows Eclipse for example, is way more compact =( )

  • @DmdWasserTanzt That is really up to user preference, I like how mint looks and is already set up. However if you prefer to customize it yourself, then Ubuntu is better. That being said, Linux Mint is probably a better choice for those who are new to Linux.

  • @HalomasterObi1177 Nice video.What song is that?I love it.

  • @TheSpikey39 The song in the background is Drowning Pool "Tear Away"

  • No Aero ;(?

    this is boring theme

  • @peesyweesy I think that you'll find snapping windows wasn't KDE4, but a Compiz addition. ...That happened to be released after Windows anyway and based on the Windows one.

  • @GodofAnotherWorId oops i must have skipped to the middle of the video or something. and missed that!

  • definitely helps some windows users switch to linux and feel more 'at home'. but other than helping people transition, it almost seems like there'd be shouts of blasphemy over making linux look like windows. nice vid though :)

  • @experimental0000 Yeah, all of this and then to make Linux apps actually work like windows apps and for there to be more of them and better developed apps, etc., etc., etc.!

  • @nakedvolleyball it's getting there though, just needs time since Linux is the young whippersnapper compared to windows. but for being such a 'new kid on the block' it's not doing too badly

  • which version of linux mint is this?

  • @manson219 I forget, it should be the newest version that was out at the time of the video being made *January 18, 2010*

  • @manson219 Looks good!

I like to show Mint off, but you know something? It is very hard to teach a born and raized slave about freedom. Slaves are fed FUD, that is all slaves eat. It is all they want to eat. Like the drug addled, they have convinced themselves that getting off dope is harder on them than learning other life skills, so, instead, they stay on dope.

I am happy to know that MY GNU/Linuxes are not going to dissapear, like OS/2 did, or AmigaOS, BeOS, GEOS. Here to stay!!!

  • it is beautiful ))))

  • Compiz effects looks ugly, useless and choppy. In comparison with Aero, Compiz sucks big dicks...

  • really this is awesome thanks really but i have a question, how ??????????? :)

    great work !!! :)

  • this is brilliant !

  • @RJE06 Thanks :)

  • @peesyweesy Yeah those commercials made me wanna smack microsoft....SO FREAKING ANNOYING...and I agree with you on the whole..."Microsoft copied KDE" thing too.

  • @HalomasterObi1177 to late now nothing you can do about it so hush and enjoy your linux

  • @HalomasterObi1177 And now Apple copies the ubuntu Softwarecenter!

    I hate them!

  • Maybe the prolem is with me, but why would anyone screw a great looking KDE 4 to look like messy win7?

  • @Nooke4000 well its actually the GNOME version of Linux Mint that I used as a base for the windows 7 look and feel, not KDE 4.

  • make a video on how to do this....

  • @TheDeepAndDark there already are some good videos on youtube on how to do this, no reason for me to reinvent the wheel ;)

  • omg nice

  • what's the name of the song?

  • Drowning Pool "Tear Away"

  • cool desktop effects!!!!

  • awesome

  • @nguyennguyenkn you'r not talking this serious?

  • thats cool. 5/5
