My son was diagnosed with TS. This guy is spot on ... it is the lack of dopamine. I have been giving my son meds to stimulate dopamine production ... not only does it control the TICS it also help eliminate OCD symptoms. This particular drug is not commonly used to control tourette syndrome and would be frowned upon by most. My son also has a touch of aspergers ... at this point I am willing to try many different things to give my child a somewhat normal life.
for all of those with tourettes... my son has tourettes and he just began a treatment with an appliance created by dr. sims and it works by realigning the jaw in the proper position and it works!!!! my sons tics immediatly subsided. view on you tube dr. sims and different treatment for it. My son is no longer on medication and is doing wonderful!
lol I have motor tourretes (as in I dont shout but I tense up and stuff) and it only comes out when im excited about something or I'm watching something exciting and I'm in a familiar relaxed area like home for example. just finished watching the green hornet, maaan in the fight scenes my body was more tense than joseph fritzell on an episode of cribs!
I tense up my muscles a lot and I can't control it. I also blink my eyes like... weirdly. Idk how to explain it. I also stutter a lot, but I only realize it when people point it out to me that I'm doing it.
Since when is the lack of dopamine proven for certain? I used to read material that indicated there was an unusual reaction to or an excess of dopamine. I have even heard of dopamine blockers used (with drugs that are not intended for Tourette Syndrome since there is no drug just for Tourette Syndrome).
@BryceVandergriftsMoM Yes I have many more tics. Motor and vocal. not only do I swear but I also make loud humming sounds aswell. The motor tics I have is shrugging my right shoulder, squinting my right eye and if I am on the computer I slam the mouse (right hand). They have changed over the years though. My TS is very server. I take medication now (Orap/Pimozide) that really helps. I have to be very careful with the swearing around my daughter. I also have OCD aswell.
I have corprilaria (don't know how to spell that) along with my other Tics... it's not fun in poblic. There has been too many times where I have accidenatally said the "N" word and there was a black person behind me... I am not racsist in any way at all... and I'm just waiting for the moment I get smacked up side the head from somebody.
I am VERY confused about how this seemingly educated man, with Tourette's can say that TS is caused by a "lack" of dopamine in the brain. Every study published has stated, very clearly, that TS is caused by an elevated level of dopamine in the brain. Thus, most treatments include dopamine inhibitors. Beware folks, and read up. This is a very misunderstood syndrome with little headway to treat symptoms.
@yamahapianoman I'm thinking that this man is really focusing on the tics. Not the associated disorders/comorbids. Maybe he only has the Tic parts. I would not say that this video teaches about TS. I think it's more that this video is about this man and his life, what he thinks and that is what I get from this video. Maybe he is thinking that people will focuse on the tics, he is showing that he has the tics and is fine with this. I hardly heard him speak about dopamine, fast talker. me too!
My son has tourettes syndrome too. He is 16 now and was diagnosed when he was 5. I'd love to find some way to administer dopamine to him through a supplement or something. Does anybody know of any natural therapy that helps with this disorder? I would love to get him off all these chemically based medications.

hoolg once you get into a momentum and acceptace you kind of adjust. For me anyways that is how it was. My committment for my son over rode all the other stuff. It wasn't always easy but God I love my boy!
Tomda... Ah I don't think it's quite a physical disease and maybe you mean a medical problem instead. Because Tourettes and it's cormorbidities is NOT a disease. K but hey... GOD IS GOOD!
I took patches from then till age 17 when I was taken off the drug and my neurologist said that I pretty much grew out of it with the treatment. I still have the urge to have ticks but self control is the biggest thing. Also smoking marijuana helps sometimes.

@roflol2pmdx eye twitches? sometimes... like rare sometimes or idk Dx throat clearing no? i wish it's just spasms...pwease tell me it's just spasms... [O.O]..
hey. i said im not a doctor. im only 12 years old. im just matching your symptoms with tourettes symptoms. if you look at these people that curse and stuff, and think about your symptoms, id say your pretty lucky. as for curing it, im not sure if there is a permanent cure. but there is medicine to stop it, temporarily or permanently, and people say that medicinal marijuana helps too. but ask a doctor though, or a pediatrician or something.

That's one of the reasons I love it. It doesn't make the tics totally go away, and if I do a lot it makes them worse, but I don't mind them as much when they happen.
I pick at my face all of the time with a pair of tweezers to distract me from my tics when I'm idle. It helps but the downside is that I get sores on my face because I'll dig in one spot. But it's become compulsory. So I have to do it or I'll freak out.
you have to start up your ocd to suppress the tics? that's like me playing with my mustache hair with my tongue to suppress my tics. lol WOW we do crazy stuff don't we?
I get the same thing. It does feel like a big shiver. It actually feels kinda neat cause it goes all the way through your body (at least it does for me). I don't twist my body though. I just kinda shake my body real fast, kinda as if though to shake the chilly feeling right out, lol! It's not something that happens all the time. But it does happen every now and then. And even on a really hot day. Which I though was weird for a shiver. Thats how i figured out it was in fact TS.
i got tourettes its hard to live with when your a kid i was diagnosed with it when i was 7 (im 22 now) i memba to this day when my teacher used to put up on the board a stroke next to my name everytime i'd twitch each stroke was a minute detention after class. it got to the point where i was in detention for an hr so mum and dad came to school looking for me to find me in the corner when dad aksed what i did the teacher explained what happend i memba my dad beating the shit outta my teacher
i went to the doctor but she said i that it was a thing that i could stop but its very dificult!
it just started one day watching a soccer game and i just had to say chuurra (spanish for like "wooooow") and i kept on saying it . since then i started doing difrent things..its been a lot of difrent thing kind temporarily from blinking on purpose or coughing...wow i just want to get rid of this...
I am 66 YOA, and my Tourrette has come back as bad as it ever was for the last couple of years. '' Lack of dopamine '' ???
I thought too much dopamine, too much brain activity in amygdala which causes anxiety depression and tics-deep brain stimulation might help.
It's a Physical disease, the neurons don't function well.
The free will is the consience and can direct the brain.

the only thing i can say about this syndrome is that so far ive come to a hypothesis that more brain activity will result in tics basically like riff raff15 mentioned before he ticks more when he walks its because the brain is active doing a task we need to do every day therefore the syndrome begins without warning trying persey to counteract the action so to have less ticks maybe reduce brain activity im not saying do it its just a hypothesis ive been researching this for 2 years so far
