Thanks for posting, unforgettably lovely tune came out when I was around 13 and had switched to a huge public school after attending a small private religious school for the first 7 years & 3 weeks of my life. Music makes many adjustments smoother!
They did a video of this song for one of the very first episodes of Laugh-In, featuring Dan Rowan & Pam Austin & the band. It wasn't a lip-sync performance. it was more like an early music video. Very interesting stuff if you see it. That's where I first heard this song.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has quite a bit of history, actually. Formed in 1966 in Long Beach, California. Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmie Fadden were the mainstays though even Jackson Browne was one of the original members of the 6-man band. This particular recording, released in 1967, was their first big hit.
This song was part of the soundtrack of my youth. Thank you for posting it.

Fantastic song...Don't believe I've heard it since '67. Wish I could find it to add to my Itunes...Not even on file sharing....

I wonder why I never hear this one on the radio. Truly a lost classic I'm glad I found.
