"The Chequered Flag" is one of the highlights of the album, which is probably my least favorite Tull LP of the 70's. Not to say that I didn't like it, it was just mediocre in comparison to the others of the decade.
All you have to do is look at the back of the Warchild album if you want to see a clean shaven Ian! (The Ian behind "god" David Palmer, is cut and pasted in!) Find the Ian that was present at the photoshoot!!
That's how he looked when he appeared on that episode of The Midnight Special on June 25, 1976. (Same hair and black t-shirt.)
However, he had a cigarette in his hand instead of a beer. lol
I was just a youngster, but I stayed up late to watch it. I remember it well. Too bad Burt Sugarman never released that Ian segment on the Midnight Special DVD series. Oh well... maybe in the future.
Extremely rare to hear this being played live in concert. Long live the Glascock years. Thanks for posting.

He looks so different here. I wonder why he trimmed his beard for this tour. Maybe to look different than Ray Lomas?

From what I've heard, he got married that year and decided to clean up his face a bit for it.

Ian got married in January 1976.
In fact, that photo at 4:29 is from his wedding day. It was the first time Ian was seen without a beard in many many years.

Yes, I've never seen these 1976 shots before. (The "blue outfit" shots are from the American leg of the TOO OLD tour during the summer of 1976.)
It would be nice if someone could uncover more photos from the May 1976 European tour, where Ian was still wearing his Minstrel outfit.
Those photos are few and RARE.
Too bad they didn't play Cherqued Flag, Taxi Grab, Whizz Kid, Big Dipper, etc. for the American tour.
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS GREAT STUFF.

Yeah, I would love to see more photos from early 76.
I bought a book with a whole photo shoot from the rotterdam show in early May 76 with ian still in his minstrel outfit.
The best book I've ever bought!. Nick

To be honest, I don't like seeing his arms. I'd rather have the bathrobe or 18th century folk attire.
