Eh, a little paint, some new wire and tubing... the rest will polish out. No big deal, it'll be back on the road. At least he didn't send it into a wall by push starting it. I had a fire very similar to this on an old Triumph and fixed it on the side of the road, it didn't look too good, but it got me home.
i literaly felt like being sick when seeing this bike burn, at the least i would have been spitting profusly and had my wanger out peeing on it to save it.

I've had this happen too - if you see the fire at the carb before it is too big, put the bike in gear and roll it forward with the throttle wide open. The flame gets sucked into the engine and puts it out. You have to think quick though!
Agreed - shocking pit organisation. Luckily been a racer ( as opposed to a roadgoing bike ) he had a quick release tank, otherwise it could have been a lot worse. Frightening.
@SynthFreq You're an idiot. It was one minute, 10 seconds from the first appearance of fire to when someone had a fire extinguisher. Pretty fast response, IMO. Sheesh!!
@AlphaDogChoppers for a racing event thats a shitty responce! there should always be 2 fire marshals in a holding area ,minimum! especially with classics with open carbs!
a mi primo le paso lo mismo con una yamaha rd 125 que estaba original. la moto quedo quemada entera hasta le revento el estanque de gasolina ,porque los carburadores le botaban gasolina y entro en los platinos y exploto
I'd never give up like that on my bike and leave it to others to deal with. Shame there was not a guy with an extinguisher near all those revving bikes, good example of how crowds react to fire though.
Was thinking at least they let it burn out, got rid of the petrol tank and didn't cover it in extinguisher foam wich would ruin it, then as the fire was out they covered it in f*****g extuinger foam!!!
its not a norton but a freaking triton a combination of truimph and norton
most of the time it is a norton frame with a truimph engine in it

The lach of an extinguisher doesnt bother me as much as the fact that the people dont know how to put it out..
Dont wave clothing at it! Just wrap all clothing around the fire!

Why the fuck did that moron rip the carb and fuel line off, dumping raw fuel on the fire? It would have been easy to put out before that.

Saw a bloke crash a BMW boxer during a Castrol 6 Hour at Amaroo Park in the 70's.
Tore the LH pot off, fuel everywhere.
It caught fire, the marshalls raced over, hit the fire extinguisher, and..... NOTHING!
The poor bugger had to stand beside the track & watch the Bee-Emm burn itself out.

What is even sadder is all the bozos running around like chickens with their heads cut off and not one f'n fire extinguisher.
Yes, you might have clean some goo off but you still have the bike and could even possibly ride that day with your "badger of honor".
