a GRAD of Overton in Nashville, I decided to go to Auburn...my freshman year in the band, i remember traveling to neyland, it was our 2nd game...i remember feeling overwhelmed @ neyland, never saw so many people watching me march...it was awesome...i was torn, cheering for Auburn and, feeling a bit supportive of (UT), which i respect...we "eeeeked" out a 14-12 victory that fall of '77...but, i remember feeling "torn" that SAT afternoon, between my alma mater & TN...i'll never forget that day!

I am from Chicago and I visited UT this past Saturday and witnessed my 1st UT game. A UT victory over GA. What a great experience Knoxville, Tenn is and the WONDERFUL people I had the pleasure in meeting. I can not say enough good about the hospitality and respect on display for the three days. ???, I did not see the band march in, where was this relative to the VOL march? I was at the post where the players get off the bus.

It's cool to hear other fans admit it when they like another schools fight song. I actually really like all of Florida's cheers. I like their "Go Gators" cheer even that they use with the "Jaws" theme build up though several other schools like Alabama use the cheer with the words changed to suit their school. I love Rocky Top and especially the Pride as much as everyone else, but unfortunately it's not the school fight song. The official fight song is "Down the Field" which is played when the band opens the "T" and also after every touchdown or field goal, before they play Rocky Top.
Actually, the University did not name the mascot. The student government in 1953 decided to get a live mascot and just so happen, the dog that won the competition was a bluetick hound named Smokey. And from the point on, one of the mascots of UT has been Smokey, The Bluetick Hound.
And yes, the Cherokee Indians name the mountains the Smokey Mountains b/c of the smoke (fog) that would rise up from the many rivers and streams.

8-10 thousand, depending on your source. not an incredible turnout, but not bad either for a cross-country trip. Tennessee fans said that Alabama and other rivals don't usually bring much, if any, more than that.
how many season ticket packages does tennessee sell every year? At the game in berkeley, there were about 16,500 UT fans, but they only got a 7,500 allocation, and the rest bought the reserved seats that were not taken by season ticket holders.
I'M not sure. I'm a Carolina Fan and Williams Brice holds 80,250 and we have orders for 62,000 season tickets (the stadium only has 58,000) The rest of the ticekts are reserved for student and the other team. We will trade 10K for Clemson, 8K for Uga, TN, FLa, Bama, etc. and slightly less for other SEC teams. I imagine since Neyland holds 110K there numbers would be proportionately greater.
I'm not a Tennessee fan, but when I went to the UT-LSU last year and saw this, damn, you just can't help but sing along. There are many great traditions in college football and this is one. As John Ward would say "It's football time in Tennessee".
face it...as a Cal fan, I admit that UT has the best fans far and away. Just look at the atmosphere around the stadium before the game. thirty thousand of them came to berkeley for the Cal-Tennessee game and only ten thousand got tickets. It was the most impressive thing I've ever seen in terms of sports fans traveling.

Also, whats wrong with Cal's stadium? Neyland is in much better shape than Memorial. I'm not blasting Cal fans. Memorial Stadium has wooden benches with numbers carved into the seat, no bathrooms ,but instead porta potties, and concessions weren't very amusing.I honestly expected Memorial Stadium to be somewhat decent since it's Cal but the amenities aren't better than the SEC Stadiums. Anyways, Cal played great and it was predicted that Cal would win. They couldnt lose after last year.
What are you talking about Muppet? Tennessee had more fans travel to Berkeley than Cal traveling to Knoxville. The total count of Cal fans last year was somewhere around 10,000. ABC said there were over 20,000 UT fans in Berkeley for the game. I'd say the UT fans travel better than any of the Pac 10 fans considering how far we traveled.
UT also had about 10,000 fans. There's no way that Tennessee had 20,000 at the game because Cal has sold around 54,000 season tickets + around 10,000 student season packages.
The stadium only holds around 73,000 fans, so that means 64,000 seats were already occupied by Cal fans. Add the number of fans that bought tickets on the day they went on sale and there is no room for 20,000 Tennessee fans. Cal gave the Tennessee athletic department 7,500 tickets for the game, which was the amount that Tennessee gave Cal last year. Most UT fans were sitting in the two designated UT sections, with a few here and there around the stadium.
The ABC commentator said it because some newspaper in Knoxville reported an estimated 25,000 fans traveling to the game, which was obviously an over exaggeration on the paper's behalf.

It was really fun being on campus during football season.
The energy that city showed for those games was amazing. If only they cared about the University and the education it provides as much as they care about football team.

It's cool to hear other fans admit it when they like another schools fight song. I actually really like all of Florida's cheers. I like their "Go Gators" cheer even that they use with the "Jaws" theme build up though several other schools like Alabama use the cheer with the words changed to suit their school. I like their fight song too. I also think Auburn ("War Eagle") Georgia's fight songs are really good as far as the goes. There are some really awesome fight songs all across college fb

I love Rocky Top and especially the Pride as much as everyone else, but unfortunately it's not the school fight song. The official fight song is "Down the Field" which is played when the band opens the "T" and also after every touchdown or field goal, before they play Rocky Top.

Actually, the University did not name the mascot. The student government in 1953 decided to get a live mascot and just so happen, the dog that won the competition was a bluetick hound named Smokey. And from the point on, one of the mascots of UT has been Smokey, The Bluetick Hound.
And yes, the Cherokee Indians name the mountains the Smokey Mountains b/c of the smoke (fog) that would rise up from the many rivers and streams.

8-10 thousand, depending on your source. not an incredible turnout, but not bad either for a cross-country trip. Tennessee fans said that Alabama and other rivals don't usually bring much, if any, more than that.

how many season ticket packages does tennessee sell every year? At the game in berkeley, there were about 16,500 UT fans, but they only got a 7,500 allocation, and the rest bought the reserved seats that were not taken by season ticket holders.

I'M not sure. I'm a Carolina Fan and Williams Brice holds 80,250 and we have orders for 62,000 season tickets (the stadium only has 58,000) The rest of the ticekts are reserved for student and the other team. We will trade 10K for Clemson, 8K for Uga, TN, FLa, Bama, etc. and slightly less for other SEC teams. I imagine since Neyland holds 110K there numbers would be proportionately greater.
TN is a great trip but LSU is my favorite.

I'm not a Tennessee fan, but when I went to the UT-LSU last year and saw this, damn, you just can't help but sing along. There are many great traditions in college football and this is one. As John Ward would say "It's football time in Tennessee".

face it...as a Cal fan, I admit that UT has the best fans far and away. Just look at the atmosphere around the stadium before the game. thirty thousand of them came to berkeley for the Cal-Tennessee game and only ten thousand got tickets. It was the most impressive thing I've ever seen in terms of sports fans traveling.

Also, whats wrong with Cal's stadium? Neyland is in much better shape than Memorial. I'm not blasting Cal fans. Memorial Stadium has wooden benches with numbers carved into the seat, no bathrooms ,but instead porta potties, and concessions weren't very amusing.I honestly expected Memorial Stadium to be somewhat decent since it's Cal but the amenities aren't better than the SEC Stadiums. Anyways, Cal played great and it was predicted that Cal would win. They couldnt lose after last year.

What are you talking about Muppet? Tennessee had more fans travel to Berkeley than Cal traveling to Knoxville. The total count of Cal fans last year was somewhere around 10,000. ABC said there were over 20,000 UT fans in Berkeley for the game. I'd say the UT fans travel better than any of the Pac 10 fans considering how far we traveled.

UT also had about 10,000 fans. There's no way that Tennessee had 20,000 at the game because Cal has sold around 54,000 season tickets + around 10,000 student season packages.

The stadium only holds around 73,000 fans, so that means 64,000 seats were already occupied by Cal fans. Add the number of fans that bought tickets on the day they went on sale and there is no room for 20,000 Tennessee fans. Cal gave the Tennessee athletic department 7,500 tickets for the game, which was the amount that Tennessee gave Cal last year. Most UT fans were sitting in the two designated UT sections, with a few here and there around the stadium.

The ABC commentator said it because some newspaper in Knoxville reported an estimated 25,000 fans traveling to the game, which was obviously an over exaggeration on the paper's behalf.
