I'm learning this now and was checking to see how others play it. WOW. you must have big hands!! I actually play it much more slowly at this point, because I have to, but I think I like it better slower??? why does everyone play the middle part soooo fast?
All I can say is that I played this piece for my final exams at the end of my 9th year of studying. I was 16. But it looks much easier than it really is. And it is truly amazing. In my opinion, the hardest part was actually reading from the score, as it is, well, in c sharp minor. After you get through the piece a couple of times, you'll start to memorize the finger patterns and you'll notice that they're very repetitive.
Whatever, it is glad to watch such a wonderful performance!

What an accomplishment to be able to play this prelude at this age! (It would seem his hands are already bigger than mine :O) I am looking forward to your next videos and I hope Spencer will win in many more competition so that his talent is rewarded :)
@esmine86 Thanks - he always played above is age, so he needs big hands to play the challenging music. We will have a video of the pieces from his Solo Recital shortly. Thanks again!
I'm always so proud of you. Everytime I see your video or just hear about you, I get tears in my eyes....so touched by your amazing playing!!!!
I miss you very much...and still remembers you at 3 and half years old, playing those 2 black keys in my studio. I'm teaching my 3 years old son now! And, he reminds me of you!
I hope I can bring my son and visit you very soon.
@cindyindallas Thanks very much Cindy! You obviously laid a pretty solid base, upon which Spencer, Liping and Dimitri were able to built upon! Thanks very much, we loved videos with Lucas and Lui, who show a lot of promise! Bob, Liping & Spencer. You should come over soon...
This is my fave piece and I think u did a good job man! I ll keep my fingers crossed for u for whatever u do.Be focused and away from girls kid,ok? Music is everything, don't forget that. Cheers from Greece.
You´re absolutely fantastic Spencer!!! It´s truly a gift from God!!! A blessing for all those who have the pleasure to listen to your passioante playing!!! Congrats!!!
@OldRabit We did not have many chances in the past couple weeks to get to the You Tube, so we are sorry for not being observant, but we appreciate your kind comments very much. I'll have to "cruise the YT" and see what's new and exciting and post comments where appropriate. Thanks again!
Thanks very much for your very kind comment! Spencer loves playing great sounding pianos. ( like this one, and especially Steinway Artcase "Kuniisii", which was about 3 metres away, and he played it before). Have a great day - you've made ours! Bob
@graywaves123 Thanks very much for your very kind words. I wish you could have heard this during my first Solo Recital on a very special concert Steinway "Kuniisii". Thanks again! Spencer.
I'm re-watching your great performance with Rachmaninoff Prelude and can't imagine that this piece can play nine year old boy with tiny hands. It's such amazing that I can't say, because I love your playing to play this Prelude with russian style and I can say that it is your best work. Won't you perform it at the Carnegie Hall?
Also Bravo to Spencer's teacher, as I think he is Russian, isn't he?
Thank you very much for the kind words. I know that Spencer would love to play this piece in Carnegie Hall, but even though I believe it would be better for everyone, I do not know if that would be acceptable to AADGT.
That was a really powerful performance Spencer and to make all of those octave cords so clear and pronounced as you have done here is quite amazing for one with small still developing hands. If I could I would give you lots and lots of stars, but for some reason YT has changed things 'again' so I can't. But a note for Dad: Don't let the fools who spend their life de-rating excellence, they are a very few and they are all failures and losers in their own life. They mean nothing.
You always find a way to cheer us up. :-)) You are right, it's not worth getting upset about ( the de-rating thing). Thanks again for your pure and caring heart, and thanks for being Spencer's friend - he is looking up to you.

Spencer. Liping and I want to thank and congratulate Spencer's teacher, Mr. Dimitri Kubyshkin on the great work of teaching Spencer the "right stuff" and selecting the pieces with a keen sense of knowing what Spencer will enjoy playing.
Please help me understand this - WHY are there people who do not have any problems to derate the rating of a video, yet do not have enough guts/integrity to introduce themselves, so we can see, rate and comment on their performance???
Wow, Spencer. I'm impressed one more time. This Rachmaninoff piece is needed for very big size of hands. I'm not so amazed by your talent as amazed by your pieces's choose, Procofiev and Rachmaninoff is the greatest composers and they are needed for very strong power for your hands but you are already have it, Dear Spencer.
Congratulation for Gold Medal. Wait your new videos from AADGT.
Thanks very much!
