Well, I live in Norway and I totally disagree with you. Of course you need top security when powerful men visit your country. However, Oslo was far away from beeing a fortress. You are probably just one of those that try to find something bad about everything the police do. Besides, most of the security was paid by Norway (60 million USD), and done in COOPERATION with secret service. We could of course choose not to put up the security, but then Obama would not visit... As simple as that.

If he was nowhere near the city center, I really cannot believe that. The police only controlled certain zones in the citycenter as well as the route the motorcade was taking in/out of the city. But if he was in the secure zones, it might be understandable. Though, there are of course always a chance for individual police officers beeing idiots... But in general, the Norwegian police consists of ordinary men who have way to little and bad equipment at their disposal and are way understaffed... In other words, I find it hard to see them as tyrannical.

Yes. I live on Grunnerløkka and even here there weren't any police forces except for occasional patrol cars passing by, but that happens everyday.

Ehh the fact is they aren't really understaffed or badly equipped. You wouldn't believe how enormous are the funds for Norwegian police. It's a small country in terms of population so they can fund just about anything. Alone the norwegian govt. payed 23 million $ for this Obama operation and used over 2000 police officers.

Also, I could base my perception of the Serbian police on what a friend has told me. The father of my nephew is a Serb who moved to Norway from Vukovar when the war escalated, as he didnt want to kill his friends from the childhood... Anyway, he told me that a cop actually asked him and his brother to bribe him after he stopped them because of driving over the speed limit^^ Can I therefore say the Serbian police as a whole is corrupt? no.

Second, I know how police works in my country better than anyone here and third, I didn't make generalizations of norwegian police based on one example. My point is the whole police action due to obama visit was a serious overkill. Some people in Norway actually PAYED for it, because police automatically assumed everyone's a potential threat.
