Hey, why would the target vessel from the opening be under steam, with the sails all triced up? Especially in the broad Pacific, SOP would be to move under wind-power (full sail) as often as possible, engaging the engines only to keep steerageway if the wind dropped too far. Also, ramming was a legitimate tactic in the period represented -- American Civil War in-shore vessels tried it a number of times, and U.S. and European capital ships were equipped for it for years.
@50zcarsman Yes, but if you notice, the wind is blowing the ship's steam backwards. I would say that it's traveling upwind, so in that case having the sails all furled up like that would make sense.
@LoreneFaith thanks for posting, I am 12 and I am EXTREMELY REVOLTED at what many people nowadays consider talent, retro music, movies, novels, etc. are true talent such as is this film, and I'm very angry and sad that such talent doesn't exist in any form nowadays and I have just finished reading the novel and in some moments I cried and as I neared the end I found myself repeatedly re-reading sentences because I just couldn't believe the story would be over so soon I wish J.V. made a sequel
@Punisherfan123 Wow, you have a lot of deep insight for 12 years old. I agree with you about the quality of classic movies versus the mindless nonsense in many of today's movies. I really love to see someone so young loving classic music and movies. You will keep them alive.
@LoreneFaith I thank you for your compliment, and I WILL do my best to preserve and share this kind of talent, and once again thank you for posting this video. (:
@LoreneFaith Sir, I know that this question may differ from the previous discussion, but do you know anywhere I could find a G.I. Joe deep sea diver outfit or action figure and outfit for a maximum of fifty, maybe fifty-five dollars, I don't want any of the new kind, they are too cheesy and colorful, the older design is quite cool, and is a legendary icon for what people imagine when they think of the sea, sorry for how random this is, but I've been looking for one for nearly a year, thanks (:
Probably the best Disney movie ever, and it is probably this movie that put Disney on the map.

@50zcarsman Well as they say, "Is it history or hollywood?"

@50zcarsman -- It's a Disney picture, you have to suspend belief.
