I could be wrong, but at the end when you show the edge, aren't you showing us the wrong edge? Shouldn't you be showing us the other side where you are actually switching colors?
I have only ever used an odd number of stitches. I imagine that even would work, but one would have to move the yarn back and forth differently from this video.
