  • PERFECT PERFECT YEEAAHH

  • i got pics of the whole band from a club down in florida in the eighties killer band

  • This was the song that started my lifelong love for Fates Warning. I think on HEadbanger's Ball or something more than 20 years ago? If you like this kind of metal, check Mystic on my channel (especially the song Grace!)

  • Another great band from Connecticut! Ive listened to these guys for a long time and was surprised that they came from a couple towns over from where I grew up in Manchester, Ct.

  • The true Progressive Metal roots right here, Fates Warning the 1st

  • α ρε μπαντάρα.....

  • Ah, the video that started it all for me. Almost 20 years ago or something? I fell i love with that band since seeing that video. Bought Perfect Symmetry and was hooked for life hehe. They also influenced my writing style when it comes to metal a lot.

  • Respond to this video... quit ragging on these cats they will always kick ass

  • It's the most "likable" video i've ever seen on youtube! Keep voting for it!

  • DiBiase's syncopated bass line is really cool in this song, a nice opposition to the slow picked guitars, classic FW

  • Love this song eternally! One of the greatest songs in history. Howgh!

  • Frank Aresti´s solo is outstanding.

  • Respond to this video... i remember these cats iv'e always known they kick righteous ass!!

  • Respond to this video... totally freaking awesome

  • Great song is this! Personally I found Ray Alder and John Arch both to have their good and weaker sides. Ray Alder's high register wasn't great to me; he always sounded a bit amateurish compared to others who ddi it much better, yet his vocal change gave FW the chance to change sound and not release the same album all over again. I can't imagine a prog FW with John Arch on album, he's good at high notes, but lacks the emotion Ray has. Both are great singers nontheless.

  • @calastiur I agree with you 100% - but, it's about to happen :-p haha...They changed what would be the new Fates (which I wish it was...) to Arch/Matheos. I do like John, but I'd personally rather have a new FW CD w/Ray.

  • one fucking incredible band.. killer melodies, fantastic vocals!!!

  • @Nighthawkjim .....absolutely!! They are one of the best!! Superb songs with great arrangement!!

  • fates kick asses greatings form greece

  • With Ray was more melodic , less progressive but fuckin good .

  • I dont understand why people debate about who is a better vocalist in Fates Warning, Arch or Alder?

FW's style of music will always have a vocal in both their style, just like bands like Dream Theater, Crimson glory,etc... But one thing to keep in mind is when Queensryche first released the "Queen of the reich' ep, that started a whole flood of these bands featuring this style of vocals!!

Geoff Tate is still the major influence of these vocalists!

  • Everybody type in "gift" before youtube then press enter

  • Unfuckingbelievable!!!!!! Ray Alder!!!!!! Master and Commander!!!!

  • Im sorry but Ray Alder`s voice is annoying, but i love this song

  • @Methrt3 WOW! That's the first time I've heard anyone say that about Ray, I've heard people saying they prefer Arch's vocals more but they still like Alder. I think Alder has a perfect tone!

  • @thelawler Yes Ray`s voice is perfect, but maybe too much so. Arch wasn`t much better techically , but the vocal melodies are what made the up difference between old and newer Fates. Perfect Symmatry should have been just an intrumental album, the vocals sound awkward.

  • @Methrt3 I love his vocals on Perfect Symmetry (Although It's not my favorite Fates album with him singing) But everyone has their own opinion.

  • @thelawler I think Parallels is so overated as well. Everyone praises it, but i didn't care much for it when it came out, it's alright. My favs with Alder would be Inside Out and No Exit

  • @Methrt3 I love Parallels but my favorite is "Inside Out" I think that album is amazing, and for some reason I love "FWX" which I know a lot of people don't favor but for some reason I really like that one!

  • Fates Warning is one of my favorite bands...I don't think that Queenryche has anything on these guys. I don't believe FW has ever gotten their due for their contributions to music and progressive rock. Every member of the band is a solid musician. Hard to say why they didn't have more success.

  • I agree.

  • Yes, still one of my favorites. Lovely, original band. These guys make honest music. Thanks for posting. All people out there in space: have agreat and peaceful time!!!

  • I think I payed 1 dollar for this album at a flea market.

  • ray alder has such a great timbre

  • Those so-called "music" fans had ought to be ASHAMED of themselves

there is NO EXCUSE for Fates Warning to have been relegated as a

niche act. Bands like Dream Theatre,Coheed and Cambria and Dragonforce

all have credited Fates Warning as a primary influence. If you don't understand

that, then i feel sorry for you!!!!!

  • before those Dream Theater fart-knockers ever thought of playing music...

  • @alexandrosmcdack there debut came out the same year this album did.

  • A very underrated band. I own each and everyone of their records and i must say i never found them boring or clueless. Ray Alder is a talented vocalist and Mark Zonder a good drummer. Maybe they did not break through due to some sort of bad luck...however...they still represent a unique example of integrity and class.

  • my favorite fates warning video. its so inspiring

  • Damn, I wish Ray Alder would sing for Dream Theater. They'd sound soooo much better.

  • It's sad the music media did it's best to ignore these guys. No matter what, they still kept coming. Sad shame people don't write like this anymore.

  • After 15 years or so I pulled "Perfect Symmetry" out of my CD rack and listen to this song a few times every day. What a PERFECT song !!!

  • fates warning will last forever

  • this song is just perfect!!

these guys were much better than all the other progressive bands!!

  • wow, fates warning is so awesome, very talented band, and perfect symmetry is by far my favorite album, and their drummer is extremely talented. Done GOODNIGHT!

  • simply one of the greatest bands that ever existed!!!! I LOVE FATES WARNING!!!! GOD BLESS THESES GUYS!!

  • @TheGeemoney77 Amen and Amen. It all works so well together , great vocals, guitar andbass and drums.

  • 3:15, awesome left hand.

  • Orgasmic track I fell in love with allmost 20 years ago! Ray is GENIUS, the rhythm section is out of this world!

  • @oolie76 Absolutely Ray Alder is a genius, check out his other projects Redemption and Engine, there can never be enough Ray Alder songs in the world. It all started with No Exit for me and have not looked back since. :)

  • @neuroelite

I've heard Engine - 3/5 for me but Redemption... Let's just say I asked a friend to go to the 2009 september show and then to buy and send me (to Poland) the 'Snowfall...' album before it hit the shops:)

  • Who cares who had the better voice.

    It's your own opinion.

What you can't deny is that everything F.W. did MUSICALLY is superb!

  • Man these guys just do what they do. Not a ton of flash but a lot of sound...

  • can someone post a lesson on the guitar for this song. Cant find the music for it anywhere? Possibly one of the greatest progressive pieces from the whole period. Drums are sick bass is upfront and the guitar... well its unbelievable both were underrated

  • I've found tabs for this.Maybe it isn't perfect but quite close. One of my FW faves ,hope they will play this one on Bang Your Head fest.FW rulez!

  • amazing lyrics

  • love the intro...brings me back

  • so amazingly good

  • Comment removed

  • The lyrics for this song are incredible, Matheos is a musical & articulate genius, not to mention the bands musicianship. This tune, like many of their songs, is incredible every time I listen and it gives me goose bumps. This my friends is a fantastic song.

  • Great song! Only version on youtube....

  • wtf about john arch, ray kicks his ass, at least in his prime

  • The cool thing about John Arch is how he hit some off-key, even "sour" notes, but it seemed more sinister and deliberate than just a guy who "can't" sing.

The only problem with the 2nd singer is that he represents the era where FW became more "Prog" than a sort of "Maiden"-like-but-darker METAL band.

But in the day, he was right up there with Geoff Tate and the 'Ryche sound of Mindcrime and Empire. I think No Exit came out halfway between the two Queensryche releases. I was stoned a lot then.

  • pff this song is so awesome :) it reminds my grantpa before his death :(((

  • yes, its sad but youre so right. reminds the same to me.

  • a pleasant shade of gray.....

  • WAAAAYY before dream theater, and WAAAAY better!!!!!

  • I wonder why people always mess around. Just be happy that there are DT and FW, I wouldn't want to miss one of these bands personally.

  • john arch WAS GOOD... ray kicks his ass in highness..... but on Johns defence he kicks Rays ass on melody...

  • It's hard to judge the two on highness...because, it seems that John Arch was more of a natural tenor and had very little trouble pulling off everything "live" that he did on record. No disrespect to Ray, but the high notes NEVER came easy to him on any "live" performance I'd seen or heard. He'd especially struggle on the Arch era material... but, I'm a HUGE Ray fan... especially the transformation he took between the Parallels and Inside Out records.

  • Spoken like a true musician. I'm a vocalist, and I agree 100%. Arch can duplicate his own studio performance live, while Ray sounds AMAZING in the studio, but can't pull it off live. No Exit (with Ray) is an alltime favorite, and Arch on a track like Kyrie Eleison is total metal mastery. CHEERS

  • Yeaa. . . I agree. . . I like more the moelodies performed by Ray, still Arch can go through that PASSAGIO really really easy. On performance guys who have difficulties with those high notes, like Ray, their voices has to be 100% in good shape in that particular day, its like everything good and bad days

  • I don't know if John Arch had any real training, but it seems to me that he had a really well defined head voice - he could get well above his Passaggio in full voice, while Ray used more falsetto. I didn't start listing to the band until the record was released - nobody I knew listened to them, and I was turned off by the bad fantasy art record covers (Original "Night on Brocken", anyone. LOL).

  • I don't get it. Ray is fine live... maybe not so much with some of John Arch's material -- don't believe I ever heard him sing it live -- but with his own, he's fine.

  • Ok I take that back. Ray USED to be fine live, but lately he has no range at all.

  • Sorry, as a long time vocal student, Ray has never gotten up where Arch is in Full Voice. I can hit everything Ray has recorded with FW, but there are a few things that John Arch did that I can't hit.... it is just out of my range.) I love them both - two incredible singers, but two completely different styles.

  • I can agree with you on arch hitting more high notes, but ray sings with more emotion, it seems he is the better fit, i honestly could not listen to a whole Fates album with arch, as good as he is, i just can't do it. And i thought they took on a better stly when Ray joined.

  • There are many things Arch can't even do live that Arch does in the studio - just an FYI.

  • cant wait to see them at progpower 10,see you true metal warriors there

  • por Dios!!!! que buen tema. Fates Warning es la columna vertebral de mi historia musical.

  • Vintage 1989 Metal. Awesome video. Great band with a very unique quality. Thanks for the posting.

  • hace años que escucho esta banda y adoro este tema es increible mi banda preferida de progresivo ¡¡¡¡

  • this kicks ass perfect symmettry was their best in my opinion still very metal but reaching higher classic stuff

  • I liked that album, their Parallels album, and their Perfect Shade of Gray album. This band just kicks ass man

  • amen bro

  • I had forgotton about this great song. Thanks for the post!

  • When this band were fiering from all sylinders, they where in a league of their own.

  • I could not agree with you more! One of the most underrated bands!!!

  • you aint shittin bro before chronic lineup changes chipped away at em they were out of this world

  • pure genius well calculated and precise masters of thier art!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wat is so great about this band is that they never released shitty quality material...all of their albums are considered the best by different people. fucking amazing band!!!

  • ray dated my cousin back in SA n we partied balls.....it was a real cool time

  • I first saw this video on Headbanger's ball way back in college. This song introduced me to Fates Warning, and consequently sealed my devotion to progressive metal. I'd been into early Queensryche before this, but this song spoke to me in a way that none had previously. I love it.

  • This old guy was on a rush cd cover. Years ago.

  • I think the old guy was the original bassist for 'Molly Hatchet'.

  • el mejor disco que han sacado estos cabrones

  • great song with amazing atmosphere... Fates did it again. this, 'fate' thing....

  • Masterpiece

  • in my opinion, Mark Zonder is the best drumer in this fucking world. and this song is one the most greatest songs ever and ever

  • very good vd (:

  • if you haven't heard perfect symmetry it's got some heavy prog

  • His voice kinda reminds me of Dio's

  • An actor...but what about his name? Does anyone know his name?

Or where else can he be seen?

  • Does anyone know who is/was the old man in this video?? I know, he also appears in the Metallica "Enter Sandman" video...

  • I could be wrong,But if I do remember right that is his father in both vids.

  • His father? Who´s? Jim´s?

  • he actually died like 2 years ago

  • he is an actor no relations to anyone in the band

  • My impression is that he is the same persone with the Parallels & Into the Mirror Black(Sanctuary-1990) covers...As well as the "Sandman"!!

  • I'm with you, I think it is the same guy.

  • Great Bass playin here, and a Great Last name.

  • He was ok

  • IS THAT YOU SHAD?

  • yes it is the scrodd whats up Moe? Tell Joe I said whats up. we are trying to get the whole crew together this summer

  • I also love Fates and Dream Theater, but to me Queensryche is the shit.Geoff is my favorite singer and think he is the coolest musician I ever met.John Arch live's right down the road from me.I have gone to his house and had dinner with him.He also is an amazing singer/musician.If you all want to listen to a good cd that John Arch wrote, look for John Arch. The cd is called twist of fate.John invited me and a friend to his house to see if the public/the fans would like it.I love that cd.

  • I have this EP it has 2 songs, Relentless 12:23 and Cheyenne 15:37 some of John's best stuff...it also got Jim Matheos to be heavier than his latter fates warning stuff

  • there next album after this, was very queensryche-ish,more so than this one,

I saw queensryche a bunch of times back in the

    Day,another Great Band,

  • This, Queensrÿche, Shadow Galley and Dream Theater... always takes me to my knees..^^

  • I love fates warning and dream theater, but you know what? I think that Fates warning has more of that true "metal" ring to their music. Definitely one of my favorite bands.

  • I saw them at Lamour's in Brooklyn,NY.

they opened for Savatage,& yes,They Played

    This Song,It Was Awesome,

  • Through diffrent eyes we try to find places we left behind!

  • there best song,

  • YOU'RE FUCKING RIGHT ON!!!

  • agapame Mark Zonder. Fates Warning rule

  • Fates Warning Rock! we can now see the world through different eyes.

  • These guys rock in concert. I saw them in Portland Oregon with Dream Theater. Both Awesome. I wish they would come around again.

    This music never gets old!!!

  • These guys rock in concert. I saw them in Portland Oregon with Dream Theater. Both Awesome. I wish they would come around again.

    This music never gets old!!!

  • people and places we left behind...

  • This band is beyond words. It would be great if they could get some of the guys that have left back to make a new cd.

  • exactly what sheepsarse wrote "thanks for posting this video, this song got me into Fates Warning." Still remember the first time I heard that song ... How many years ago that was. Great song !

  • Perfect Symmetry 1989, how time fly's

  • one of my most most most favorite songs of all time... God Bless Fates Warning

  • Amen

  • Thanks for posting this video, this song got me into Fates Warning, they are very under rated along with Vicious Rumours.

  • We think along the same lines.. :) I was just checking out one of my old H-Banger's Ball VCR tapes and this tune as well as Vicious Rumors both came on.

  • You should check VR's work with Carl Albert (RIP)on vocals they were at their best then mid 80's - mid 90's.
