I don't get the recent anti-whaling activities of the Sea Shepherd (in particular the ones being broadcast by Animal Planet), I mean what is the big deal on the japanese whaling? If they're hunting whales for their meat how is that so different from fishing or even slauthering cows for meat (meat that is eaten by 90% of the world population)? Now, if the whales being hunted have their conservation statues threatened then, well, it is another story. So, how can shed me a light here?
@debunker1905 I think that the differece is probaby that we raise cows fo the purpose of food. This is by no means humane either, but is does not remove from the natural animal system that keeps the planet functioning. Dolphins, whales and sharks eat the fish that eat the plankton that create the oxygen that we breathe. If you chop the head off the food chain, the results can and will span the entire planet and all of its inhabitats.

Sea Shepherd do an excellent job of filming and broadcasting the whalers. However, they run a seriously dangerous line with their confrontational tactics. Using violence and aggression against the whalers will only prolong the slaughter. Yes, they may save a few whales that season. But the whalers will be back the very next, most likely bearing an increased sense of righteousness.

I don't get the recent anti-whaling activities of the Sea Shepherd (in particular the ones being broadcast by Animal Planet), I mean what is the big deal on the japanese whaling? If they're hunting whales for their meat how is that so different from fishing or even slauthering cows for meat (meat that is eaten by 90% of the world population)? Now, if the whales being hunted have their conservation statues threatened then, well, it is another story. So, how can shed me a light here?

This is by no means humane either, but is does not remove from the natural animal system that keeps the planet functioning. Dolphins, whales and sharks eat the fish that eat the plankton that create the oxygen that we breathe. If you chop the head off the food chain, the results can and will span the entire planet and all of its inhabitats.

"Man up" and do something that actually matters like close the loophole that allows the whaling through campaigning for change in legislation. Whale meat contains Mercury & Lead. As a result, the Govt issued health advisories warning people NOT to eat whale meat.

Yes, the JAPANESE WHALERS have an incredibly high turnover-rate when they return to port in Japan. Many Japanese leave. Decline to go again.
SeaShepherd crew return to a heroes' welcome, all are volunteer, some financially cant reconscribe. They dont get paid salary support like Whale-Killers, and have jobs.
And: with SeaShepherd at least they CAN return home. And have, every time.

Finally, Sea Shepherd employ a typically American-style method of problem solving. Where 'might is right' and respect is only earned by forcefully imposing your will upon others. Captain Paul Watson is a Canadian, however his primary benefactors are Hollywood do-gooders and US businessmen brought up in a culture of confrontation.
Take a look around the world and ask yourself: how many times has this approach worked?

I'm not a strict pacifist , but I really don't like Ward Churchill's contrariness. His whole attitude comes across as really repulsive to me. Pacifism & non-violent direct action are two completely different things. Ward relies heavily on pretending they're the same. Non violent action , the sword that heals. Sea Shepherd do an excellent job of filming and broadcasting the whalers. However, they run a seriously dangerous line with their confrontational tactics. Using violence and aggression against the whalers will only prolong the slaughter. Yes, they may save a few whales that season. But the whalers will be back the very next, most likely bearing an increased sense of righteousness.
