Stroheim was subversive. Swanson gets pretty badly, but if this would have been more fantastical and with strains on the fire filled reality, this wouldn't be half as thrilling. Queen Kelly didn't need to be so cruel, but her jealousy was overwhelming. Spoiled and supercilious, she fights back in a way that makes it totalitarian to the viewer. It's great to watch, with the dolly shots, the art direction and everything - just superb.

This movie is nothing less than a masterpiece! I purchased it because it was just brilliant; fantastic cast; Swanson, Byron and Owen are terrific. Thank you for posting this. That's how I found the movie to exist in the first place.

Ce grand film injustement maltraité, dans tous les sens du terme est pour moi un O.V.N.I...mais surtout un chef-d'oeuvre...Le jeu des acteurs n'en est pas un..Il est au contraire ancré dans la réalité la plus totale..Ce film m'a profondément touchée lorsque je l'ai découvert, grâce à Mr Patrick BRION...Ce film, pour moi, contient des ingrédients psychologiques, voire freudiens, très important...Il est aussi profondément karmique...Merci Mr Eric Von Stroheim.
